A winter stroll through the sights of Maebashi City【群馬･前橋市】

① Rinkokaku
This prestigious modern Japanese-style wooden building is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
The grounds are lined with three buildings: the main building, the teahouse, and the annex. As you stroll through the beautiful Japanese garden, you’ll feel as if you’ve traveled back in time to the Meiji period.
We visited on a Monday, which is a closing day, so unfortunately we weren’t able to see the teahouse, but just walking through the garden was satisfying. It’s amazing that you can enter such a wonderful place for free.
🚗 10 minute drive from JR Maebashi Station
🚌 10 minutes by bus (Nihon Chuo Bus Maebashi Shinto Line) from JR Maebashi Station. Get off at the “Luna Park Rinkokaku-mae” bus stop, 1 minute walk

② Maebashi Toshogu Shrine
Founded in 1624 with Tokugawa Ieyasu as the main deity.
The shrine also enshrines the god of learning, Sugawara Michizane, and the god of safe childbirth, Konohanasakuyahime, and is expected to bring various benefits. It also has a purification hall for cars, one of the first in Japan, and prayers for vehicle safety are also held. It was just renovated in 2021, very sophisticated and beautiful shrine.

③ Gunma Prefectural Office Observatory
A classic spot to get a panoramic view of Maebashi City.
The observation deck on the 32nd floor is free to enter, and there is an observation salon and restaurant on the 31st floor. The observation see-through elevator takes about 75 seconds. From 127 meters above ground, you can see Mount Akagi and the city of Maebashi.

①臨江閣（りんこうかく）
格式高い近代和風の木造建築で、国の重要文化財に指定されている。
敷地内には本館、茶室、別館の3棟が並び、美しい日本庭園を散策していると、まるで明治時代にタイムスリップしたかのような不思議な感覚に包まれます。
私たちが訪れた日は、休館日の月曜だったので、残念ながら茶室などを見ることはできませんでしたが、庭園を歩くだけでも十分満足でした。こんな素敵な場所が無料で入れるなんて、驚きです。

「るなぱあく・臨江閣前」バス停にて下車、徒歩1分

②前橋東照宮
1624年、徳川家康公を主祭神とし創建。
学問の神様・菅原道真や安産の神様・木花咲耶姫なども祀られており、さまざまなご利益が期待できます。全国でいち早く設けられた車専用の祓殿もあり、車両の交通安全祈願も行われています。2021年に大改修が行われたばかりで、とても綺麗な神社でした。

③群馬県庁展望台
前橋市を一望する定番の場所。
32階にある展望フロアは入場無料で、31階には展望サロンとレストランがあります。展望用のシースルーエレベータで所要時間約75秒。地上127メートルから、赤城山や前橋の市街地を見渡す事ができます。
