Nishiizu We’re now off to visit Mabuyu, the origin of Toi Onsen. Toi Onsen is said to have begun in 1611 when hot springs began to gush forth from the mouth of a mine within the grounds of Anraku-ji Temple during the development of the Toi Gold Mine . Anraku- ji Temple, Mount Kissho, one of the 88 sacred sites of Izu. This camphor tree is… incredible! A giant tree estimated to be over 1,000 years old Is there a Mabuyu here? Inside Anraku-ji Temple? Let’s go♪ Admission fee to visit Mabuyu is 150 yen. Here we go♪ “Mabu” apparently refers to a mine tunnel. Amazing ! The entrance to the gold mine! Wow, amazing! Is this it? Is this… hot water? A calcium-sodium sulfate chloride spring. Where does it come from? I hear a trickling sound. It’s coming out from over here ! The temperature in the bath is about 46°C . The outlet where the hot spring is gushing out is even hotter, at about 53°C. We can go further in… look! At the very back is a couple’s shrine said to grant fertility. Apparently you could bathe there before, but now it’s only open for viewing . There’s a three-leaf chrysanthemum crest, I wonder if it was a shogunate territory? Admission fee (combined ticket for tourist tunnels and Golden Hall) 1,200 yen Next, we head towards Dogashima, where we also went yesterday. We’ll soon come to the boarding point for the Dogashima cave tour sightseeing boat, so we’ll go look for the cave we saw in the tourist pamphlet. We’ve arrived at Norihama Beach, the departure point for the sightseeing boat we boarded yesterday. This is a cave that can only be reached at low tide. There was a bridge around here! There’s a parking lot with space for about seven cars where you can see the tombolo from above. I’m off for lunch now! Business Hours: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Closed: Irregular. | Kaisan-tei Restaurant. Boiled Alfonsino Fish Set Meal: 1,980 yen. Dried Fish Set Meal: 1,430 yen. You can choose two types of dried fish from the following: Fatty Horse Mackerel, Alfonsino, Ebodai, Pacific Saury Dried in Mirin, and Pacific Saury Dried in Sake. It was fragrant and delicious. I don’t usually eat “dried fish” at home. Thank you for the meal! After this, I’m heading to Toi Port to board the Suruga Bay Ferry. Since I still had time, I stopped by here, but… it turned out to be a terrifying experience. (-_-;) The remains of one of the oldest hand-dug mines in Izu, dug during the Tensho era (1573-1592), remain almost exactly as they were when they were first built. | An old man was explaining to me about the Tensho Gold Mine with its niche, but I didn’t understand half of what he was saying (^^;) The old lady was nodding along, but I wonder if she understood? Viewer discretion advised for those who don’t like insects. There were centipedes crammed into the crevices of the rocks. He told me about a good spot where I could kill time, so I headed there. The parking lot is free for the first 120 minutes after entry. Terrasse Orange Toy, Japan’s first “tsunami evacuation complex,” also has a cafe and a shop selling Toi specialties on the first floor. The Suruga Bay Ferry, which I’m about to board, has just arrived. The Suruga Bay Ferry crosses Suruga Bay, connecting Toi Port and Shimizu Port in 90 minutes. Apparently, you can see the majestic Mount Fuji from the ferry, but I wonder if I’ll be able to see it today? There were only three cars, including the Defender, bound for Shimizu Port. There were food stalls on board selling takoyaki, yakisoba, crepes, and more. The special room on the third floor, with a drink, cost an additional 1,000 yen . There was a road sign on the boat! Apparently, it’s a prefectural road certified by Shizuoka Prefecture. We could see Mt. Fuji! (^^)! This is Japan’s highest point, Mt. Fuji, as seen from Japan’s deepest, Suruga Bay! Above this is the special room 223, which costs an additional 1,000 yen. It’s full of merchandise! There are even magnets! They even sell things like this… Let’s all liven up the Suruga Bay Ferry! Suruga Bay Gelato No. 223, 450 yen | [Only available at the onboard shop] It’s a salted milk flavor, and the blue color, inspired by Suruga Bay, is colored with butterfly peas. The creatures that live in Japan’s deepest, Suruga Bay, are also featured. If you enjoyed it, please like and subscribe to our channel ♪
