長野 野沢温泉❄️善光寺から日本唯一の”温泉村”で癒しの湯巡り|外湯巡り|麻釜
Hello everyone! I’m Naru! I’ve arrived at Nozawa Onsen in Nagano Prefecture! Nagano is divided into four main areas:
Hokushin, Toshin, Chushin, and Nanshin. (North, East, Central, and South) In the Hokushin (North) area we’re visiting, there is the National Treasure, Zenko-ji Temple, and Togakushi Shrine, nestled in
the sacred Mt. Togakushi. There are also many famous hot springs,
such as Nozawa Onsen and Shibu Onsen. There are so many of them here! On this trip, we’ll first visit the National Treasure, Zenko-ji Temple, and then head to Nozawa Onsen. Nozawa Onsen is a mountain hot spring town
located in one of Japan’s heaviest snowfall areas. It’s a beautiful town in the mountains. Taking advantage of this abundant snow,
Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort was born. It’s a world-class ski destination! From the 1,650m summit of Mt. Kenashi, down towards the hot spring town, the slopes spread along three ridges. With a vertical drop of 1,086m and 44 different courses, it’s one of the largest ski resorts in Japan! And another attraction is the hot spring culture. There are over 30 hot spring sources in the village, and 13 “Sotoyu” (public bathhouses)! These bathhouses have been protected since
the Edo period by a resident organization called “Yunakama,” making them true village treasures. At “Ogama” in the center of the town, boiling water near 90°C gushes out. You can still see locals boiling
vegetables and eggs there. It’s a sight unique to this town! We’ve arrived at Zenko-ji Omotesando,
the main approach to the temple. It looks like it snowed a little bit. Since it’s early morning in the temple town, the shops aren’t open yet. But it still has a great atmosphere! And it’s so beautiful. They sell all sorts of things here. Looks like they have Oyaki (stuffed dumplings) too. There are souvenir shops as well. It might be a good idea to buy souvenirs here. This might be where the priest
taps your head for blessings! The high priest has arrived. A ritual where the priest touches prayer beads
to each person’s head to grant blessings. There’s a secret hidden in the characters for “Zenko-ji” on the Sanmon Gate! I’m sure many of you already know, but there are five pigeons hidden there! Oh, really? Look at the character for “Zen” (善). In these two strokes at the top, and the two strokes in “Ko” (光)… And one more is hidden in the bottom
of “Ji” (寺)! Also, can you see the part that
looks like a cow’s face? Ah, it’s in “Zen”! Exactly! Those are the eyes, right? And the mouth… It’s not that the character is the origin, but… “Ushi ni hikarete Zenko-ji mairi”
(Led by a cow to visit Zenko-ji Temple) That’s the famous proverb related to this place. So, a cow is also hidden in the text! That’s amazing. Let’s go and offer our prayers. Founded in 644, this is a historic temple
representing Nagano Prefecture. Since anyone can pray here regardless of sect, it’s said that “one must visit Zenko-ji at least
once in a lifetime,” attracting pilgrims from all over! You can also climb to the top of the Sanmon Gate (paid). Now, let’s go get some breakfast! This cafe is located in the Shiun-kaku building
within the Zenko-ji grounds. While gazing at the Sanmon Gate and the Main Hall, you can enjoy a “Tera-kayu” (temple porridge) set
to soothe your mind and body! The chopstick sleeve is hand-written by a monk.
The words are said to be the “Message of the Day.” It had kombu seaweed in it and was delicious! ♪ The simmered dishes were well-seasoned too. This has a sweet miso sauce on it! 🙆♀️ Looks yummy!! There was a chestnut from Obuse inside! I’ll enjoy it with a heart of “On-ai” (Benevolence). Having breakfast while looking at Zenko-ji Temple
is so peaceful. We’ve arrived at Nagano Station! From here, we’ll continue our journey by train! Nagano Station → Iiyama Station
Approx. 50 min. / 590 yen The apple orchards are so typical of Nagano. It’s a snowy wonderland!! I was sleeping, but I jumped out of my seat! (LOL) The Chikuma River is also beautiful. Mt. Kosha | Elevation: 1,351.5m It’s snowing heavily in Iiyama too! The view from the window was amazing!! I know! You say “I know,” but weren’t you asleep? No, I was watching! I woke up to see the best parts! (laughs) The mountains were so beautiful. The scenery changed so fast. And the river was lovely too. I can’t believe it’s full winter here
after only an hour. Nagano was cold, but… Iiyama is even colder! Snowy landscapes are really the best. We’re taking a bus to Nozawa Onsen! The bus ticket office is located outside. The ticket machines accept credit cards! 🙆♀️ You can also pay with “Suica” on the bus. Iiyama Station → Nozawa Onsen Central Terminal
Approx. 30 min. / 600 yen We’ve arrived at Nozawa Onsen! It’s snowing so much!! Suddenly, it’s a heavy snowfall!! Look at all this snow on the ground. It’s so fluffy! It feels like it just fell today. Powder snow. Wow! It really is so soft! It feels like true winter! The bus was almost full. About 95% of the passengers were foreigners. It’s really popular, isn’t it! Let’s go to the tourist association to collect more stamps. Let’s buy a “Shuin” stamp book. I decided to do the “Stamp Collection Tour” again. Apparently, if you collect 10 stamps, you get a towel. I’ll do my best! I found one right in front of the
Tourist Information Center! Oh! It’s appearing. Oh! Amazing, amazing! Wow… Is this Nozawa-na (leafy green)? Or a turnip? Nozawa-na? What is it, a turnip? Oh! Haven’t you gotten better at this
since Togakushi? Done! I think this looks good. Complete! Open it! I’ll keep going like this!! Nozawa Onsen Village is the only village in Japan
with “Onsen” in its name. Said to have been discovered by the monk Gyoki
in the Nara period… it has historic springs with over 1,200 years of history. The charm of an onsen town is condensed here. This is a long-established Soba shop founded in 1926. Their hand-made soba, made with
Nozawa Onsen’s natural water… goes down smoothly and has a firm texture. Combined with crispy, freshly fried tempura… you can enjoy exquisite Shinshu Soba! The shrimp tempura is huge too!! So delicious!! Let’s go explore Nozawa Onsen! We found “Oyu,” the main public bath! For our stamp rally, Oyu was the top spot! I wonder if I can do it well? Whoops, it’s way off center! Oh no! It slipped… It’s much easier if you rub it
with a plastic bottle cap! The stamp book includes explanations
about each location. ♪ I’d love to go on a tour of the public baths again. Maybe tonight, or when we have time tomorrow, I want to visit all the “Sotoyu” bathhouses! The snowy hot spring town is so atmospheric. I absolutely love shrines in the snow! (laughs) There was a temple right next to it! We’ve arrived at Kenmei-ji Temple! The roof is so massive. It’s a very powerful-looking Main Hall! Kenmei-ji is said to be the birthplace of Nozawa-na. Nozawa-na? The story goes that a priest from Kenmei-ji brought back turnip seeds when he visited the Kansai region. He planted them here, but… for some reason, you know turnips, right? They have the root part. The root didn’t grow big, but the leaves grew huge instead! When people tried eating those leaves,
they were delicious. Wait, so Nozawa-na is actually a turnip? Nozawa-na is a member of the turnip family.
(Brassicaceae, Brassica rapa) So everyone uses this spring together. That’s right. They wash things like Nozawa-na
and other vegetables here. I can smell the sulfur. It really makes you feel like you’re at an onsen. Even though it’s this cold out… It’s so warm! Yeah! It’s warm just being near here! The source must be scalding hot! I want to soak in the water soon. I can’t wait to get into the hot spring! I’d love to try eating something washed here. I wonder if they’ll serve it at the inn? Most likely! This is a long-standing onsen inn founded in 1869. Standing right in front of the
Natural Monument “Ogama,” it’s a small inn limited to 10 groups per day. Using the 90°C private source that naturally wells up within the grounds, you can enjoy 100% free-flowing hot spring water! The relaxation space is full of books and manga! Suiho Tagawa, creator of “Norakuro,”
was reportedly a regular guest here. I found a collaborative drawing by him
and his students in the hallway! There’s a lot of wood used, giving it
a very warm feel. It’s time for dinner!! I’ve never heard of the local dish “Torimawashi-bachi”! Apparently, it’s a traditional banquet dish passed down in Nozawa Onsen since the Edo period. It’s a rural feast mainly using
vegetables and wild plants. Does it mean “taking and eating”? It feels like a style where everyone
shares from the bowls. The potatoes look so good. They look like candied sweet potatoes. The wood ear mushrooms are bound to be great. The potatoes are fluffy, sweet, and delicious! The crunchy texture of wood ear mushrooms
is irresistible! I really love wood ear mushrooms. Wow, this is amazing. They said it’s lotus root, shrimp,
and wood ear mushroom. So it has wood ear in it too. That’s a unique combination. I’ve never had this before. Yeah, me neither. The sauce is made from garland chrysanthemum
and edible chrysanthemum. Oh my goodness. What is this? How do they even think of these recipes? The shrimp is so plump. And the lotus root and wood ear have
such a great crunch. The mix of textures is wonderful. So good!! You know, if they sold this in the hot spring town… I’d love to eat it while walking. I think it would sell! Wow! This is delicious. Can I eat this? It’s Shirako (cod milt). It’s so creamy! Yum! This is basically “nature’s gratin.” Nature’s gratin? Like a gratin? It’s a gratin. Well, I guess it is like a gratin… That’s true. The creaminess is definitely gratin-like. Your analogies are so unique! (laughs) Inside is Sakai potato and duck! This is my first time eating “rare”
grilled Spanish mackerel!! It was so crisp and delicious! The meat has arrived. It’s Kitashinshu Miyuki Wagyu beef! I’ve never heard of that brand. Me neither. It’s written with the characters for “Beautiful Snow.” A legendary Kuroge Wagyu, raised only in
certain mountain areas of Nozawa Onsen. And it’s a beef cutlet!! Wow! It’s rare. Look how red it is in the middle. It looks great. All I can say is “delicious”!! Since it’s fried, the outside is crispy, but the inside is melt-in-your-mouth tender. Wow! This is amazing. And the mustard… it has these whole grains. Yeah, you’re right. The grains are really large. The mustard aroma is so strong. It has a popping texture. Combined with the meat… It’s incredibly good. Let me try it. Delicious!! And the rice is great too. What is “Mukago”? These are tasty! Mukago. You know Japanese yams? They’re the little bulbils that grow on the vines. They’re delicious. They have a slightly salty taste. Maybe they were seasoned? So good. The rice and Mukago really reset my palate
after the fatty meat. This is wonderful. The guimauve (marshmallow) just melted
in my mouth! ♪ Let’s take a night walk through Nozawa Onsen village! There are actually quite a few bars here. The drawing of the horsetail is so cute! Nozawa Onsen is a place where you can
have fun at night too! I think I’ll have a long soak in the onsen
and head to bed. I can see what looks like a sea of clouds
out the window!! Is that a “Unkai” (sea of clouds)? Or just fog? It definitely looks like a sea of clouds. Finally!! The time has come to be released
from that “curse”! I’m half-released now. Just seeing it is enough. But for the other half, I need to see it
a bit closer… otherwise, I won’t be fully free! (laughs) Wow! What an incredible view to wake up to!! So incredibly beautiful. The “Taki-no-yu” bath was incredibly hot. It was hot. So, so hot. I added a little cold water and tried to jump in with all my might, but it was just too much. I hopped right back out in a second. I managed to stay in, surprisingly! Really? It was so hot for me. But it felt good. The “Yu-no-hana” (mineral deposits) were amazing! There were black mineral flakes floating in it. That’s quite rare. It felt like a “true” hot spring, right? The water had an emerald green color too. It was mystical and very nice. Everything about it is beautiful. It was! So very beautiful! It was so warm once you got inside. The room itself was nice and warm. It’s so well-maintained. We’re very grateful for that. The exterior looks great too. It’s cozy and has a great vibe! It’s close to Sumiyoshiya, right? I think it’s the closest one. That was wonderful. Now it’s finally time for breakfast. I’m looking forward to it! Wow, that’s a huge amount of food for breakfast. There was so much besides this “treasure chest.” There really was. Is this the “Torimawashi-bachi”? Torimawashi-bachi. Burdock and potatoes. They said it’s potatoes that are
sautéed and then pickled. We also have this Nozawa-na. They call it “Toki-zuke.” Unlike regular Nozawa-na pickles,
these are pickled in soy sauce for a short time. Delicious. It has soy sauce and maybe a hint of sweetness? “Toki-zuke” is so good!! Let me try some. It goes perfectly with rice! Ah! You’re right! It’s completely different! Totally different from yesterday’s. Wow! This one is delicious too. I had such a relaxing time at the inn. The hot spring was really fantastic. The stained glass fitted into the windows… it reflects on the water’s surface, sparkling away… It was so incredibly beautiful. That was amazing. I wonder if that’s like the trademark of this inn? Probably so! And the bath area has tiles all over, which is also very pretty. It felt… almost like a “Renaissance” style. And the water… it’s hot, but at a temperature you can manage to get in. That tingling sensation… I wonder if that’s because of the heat, or if it’s very acidic? I wonder which it is. Either way, it feels like it’ll make your skin
beautiful! It’s so smooth!! I usually have to apply hand cream constantly, but now my skin is smooth even without it. It was a wonderful hot spring! Let’s go make some “Onsen Tamago” (soft-boiled eggs)! At the “Yurari” mini hot spring plaza… let’s cook some onsen eggs. The view is great here too! Can we use this? There are guidelines for the temperature. The current temperature is 65°C. How many minutes should we cook them? Maybe about 20 minutes? Maybe longer? If it’s 16 minutes at 75°C… How long should we go? Since it’s 10 degrees lower, maybe 20 minutes? That looks so warm!! Seal it up! The mini hot spring plaza also has a foot bath! We’ll wait for the eggs to cook while
enjoying the foot bath! We can see Mt. Myoko and Mt. Hiuchi! I’m going to make a snowman!! Ah! I should have made it more sturdy. 😂 We boiled them for about 25 minutes. Oh! It looks like they’re done! Isn’t it just right? Amazing. Let’s eat. Wow. So wiggly. They might be a bit too raw. Should I just go for it? The whites might still be a little raw… Are you going to drink it? Delicious!! It’s definitely an onsen egg! So good!! Let’s go eat some snacks! So many cute doughnuts!! Such a moist dough! The strawberry on top adds a nice kick. Next, we’re having some Oyaki! This is a really big Oyaki! It’s packed with Nozawa-na. Since it’s freshly steamed, it’s so fluffy. ♪ Delicious!! Apparently, if the weather is clear,
you can see Mt. Togakushi from here!! Opened in 1994, this was Japan’s
first outdoor moving walkway. With a total length of 288m and taking about 10 min… it connects the Nozawa Onsen town and
the Hikage slopes for free! It must feel so good to ski on an empty slope! I’ve successfully collected 10 stamps!! My favorite is the “Ogama” mark! I received a towel with the character for “Yu” (Hot Water)
designed by Taro Okamoto from the tourist association! Thank you for watching!
