A mansion even more magnificent than the main hall is attached Apparently there used to be an elementary school on the grounds. There’s an old house across the street. This is Jizo statue of child-rearing. There is a night light, but it will soon go out. The remains of the Hatago Manjuya (Tsuchiya House). Watanabe Kazan stayed here. I like looking at construction sites, and the soil is black. I wonder if it used to be a farm. This is the Jizo statue that wards off evil. There are flowers arranged inside. It’s well cared for. There are a lot of mansions built from old families. We have arrived at Shimotsuruma Suwa Shrine. I thought it was a local shrine, but it’s actually a pretty big shrine. It is unknown when it was first built, but there are records of it dating back to the 800s, so it must be about 1,200 years old. This main hall was built in 1872 over a period of three years. Apparently the carving took a long time. This spacious area is perfect for a play area for local children. I think they are cherry trees. There are quite a few planted. A pole used to erect flags during festivals. No dogs allowed. This is common practice at temples and shrines. That’s all for today. Thank you for watching. 暮らしのすぐ隣に、祈りのかたちが今も息づいていた。神奈川県大和市、旧大山街道を歩いていたときのこと。石段の途中、誰かが手を合わせた気配が風に残る下鶴間不動尊、本堂の背後に時代の重みを感じさせる鶴林寺、地蔵たちの前にそっと置かれた花が、その静けさを守っていた。通りの向かいには、昔の旅籠の跡や、畑だった名残の黒い土、そして今も住まいが連なる旧家があり、町の時間と人の記憶が確かに残されている。やがて現れたのは、桜の木々に囲まれた下鶴間諏訪神社。千年以上の歴史を持つこの神社の本殿には、彫刻ひとつひとつに積み重ねられた年月の重さがにじんでいた。神域と遊び場のあわいに広がる静けさの中、遠くからでも心を向けたくなるような風景に出会う。都市の記憶と信仰が交錯する場所で、ただ歩くことが、誰かの祈りに触れる行為になる。そんな風景が、この道には確かにあった。
