November 23, 2025. We are a middle-aged couple traveling Hokkaido with our beloved dog, doing nomadic work and camping in our van. We’re currently located in Kitami City. Corgi travel, van life with a corgi. Osa, Mamachan, and Kotaro. On this trip, Osa lives a double life, staying in a hotel and camping in the van. On her days off, she enjoys a relaxing morning bath. I borrow a corner of the van to help Kotaro get ready. Lunch is ready. I try to eat plenty of vegetables. French toast. Breakfast is ready. I substituted ponzu and olive oil for the dressing. Osa had a double mayunezu and ponzu. Our lodging is far from the city center, so we don’t have much opportunity to go downtown. Today, we plan to explore downtown Kitami. We bought some supplies for Kotaro at a hardware store. We headed to a shopping center in town: Community Plaza Parabo. Machikita Boulevard Building Parabo is a commercial facility built on the former site of Kitami Tokyu Department Store. It looks like there’ll be some delicious food there. Today, we’ll enjoy Parabo. Community Plaza Parabo, Machikita Boulevard Building. The wine from Boss Agri Winery, a Kitami winery I’ve visited before, is really delicious. They have products made with mint, a Kitami specialty. Boulangerie Kitami. They seem like a great match for coffee and snacks. My main goal was a local Chinese restaurant in the restaurant district. Chinese cuisine, Saihwa. Okhotsk dried scallop salt ramen. A light flavor with a dried scallop broth. Okhotsk dried scallop yakisoba with thickened sauce. The sauce is packed with the delicious flavor of dried scallops. The noodles are also nicely fragrant. Exchange. Thank you for the meal. I bought some souvenirs, but Kotaro is a bit reserved. We headed to the park for coffee. Kaoriyanse Park. Osa’s coffee is delicious. I don’t often drink coffee at cafes. The orange croissant I bought earlier. Glace mixed with orange peel. The bitter orange adds a nice touch. Let’s show Kotaro his clever side for once. Huh? Clever? Cold air comes in through the gaps in the window frames. Just by filling the gaps with insulation, the warmth inside the car changes dramatically . Kotaro is tired from playing. Pork tenderloin for Kotaro’s meal. Preparing for dinner. Tamakoro burgers purchased at Parabo. Making potato galettes. Sasabuta Gyoja garlic frankfurters purchased at the Daisetsuzanrokusha Shrine in Asahikawa. Dinner is complete. The feast begins. Potatoes from Kitami. Potato galettes are Osa’s specialty. I’d like to try all the different varieties if possible. The meat juice overflows when you eat them. A very satisfying sausage. Tamakoro, made with onions from the Kitami region. A delicious croquette with the distinctive sweetness of onions. Another fulfilling day filled with delicious food. Searching for local delicacies is like a treasure hunt. For the work trip that continues tomorrow. Let’s enjoy a few more drinks tonight. Preview of the next episode.
