【岐阜旅】江戸の町にタイムスリップ!?美濃グルメを食べ歩きしながらゆるりと散策する旅【A trip to Mino,Gifu】
Hello everyone! This is the second installment of our “Nagara River Railway Journey,” which we followed last time. We’re visiting Mino City, Gifu Prefecture, famous for being “the town with udatsu rising.” Let’s take a leisurely stroll through the streets, which still retain the charm of old Japan. Please enjoy until the very end! We’ve arrived at the “Udatsu rising streets.” It’s as if we’ve traveled back in time to history. By the way, everyone, there’s a saying, “Udatsu ga agaranai” (meaning “not being able to rise up”), and the meaning and origin of this saying is actually related to this streetscape. “Udatsu” refers to the fire walls attached to both ends of a roof, but over time, they became a spectacle where wealthy merchants competed for wealth. So, “udatsu ga agaranai” (meaning “not being able to rise up”) means “not being able to get ahead.” Nowadays, there are many stylish shops that have been renovated from old houses, so we recommend browsing the shops while taking in the beautiful scenery! So, we headed straight to a butcher shop. Once you see this, you have to go! The croquettes looked delicious! We arrived early after opening, so the food wasn’t fried yet, and the kind owner rushed to prepare it for us. The piping hot croquettes and meat skewers were ready! They looked so delicious! Listen to the sound! They were crispy and the meat was super juicy. Next up was the croquettes, which were both crunchy and steaming hot. If you visit Mino, be sure to try them! Next up was the former Meitetsu Mino Station. The station building, which served the local community from 1911 to 1999, still remains in its original form. The retro and charming trains… This building was originally used as a paper warehouse. Now, it’s a shop selling lovely items made with Mino washi paper, with lots of cute paper goods. Mino washi, along with Echizen washi and Tosa washi, is one of Japan’s three major washi papers. Its characteristics are its thinness, durability, soft texture, and translucent beauty. Paper is a warm and wonderful item, isn’t it? It’s beautiful and delicate… I’ve arrived at a cafe attached to a general store that makes me want to stare at it forever. The lights from the washi paper create a very warm and lovely atmosphere♪ I was given some Mino washi origami paper so while I wait I try to make a paper crane, but…I wonder when was the last time I touched origami paper, and I’ve completely forgotten how to fold a crane.I need to get back to kindergarten now.I’ve been eating nothing but fried food. This is only available in the summer, but the rich milk flavor goes perfectly with the red beans. These are the items I got at the store mentioned earlier! Find your favorite item! The Former Imai Residence is Mino City’s oldest townhouse with a udatsu roof, which housed a Japanese paper wholesaler. Built in the mid-Edo period and expanded in the early Meiji period, it’s said the Niwakagura displays historical materials introducing the local performing art “Mino Ninrinka.” The Accounting Office features a wealthy merchant’s eyelight, which was used for business during the paper wholesaler era . It was installed during the Meiji era renovation and is about 3 meters high. The deliberately offset opening of the shoji screen creates a stylish design. The Inner Room features a guest room of about 10 tatami mats, hinting at the prosperity of the merchant era. The spacious Suikinkutsu (water harp) has been certified as one of the “Top 100 Soundscapes of Japan.” It features an upside-down bottle with a small hole in the bottom, producing a pure tone . Be sure to listen to the beautiful sound! Did you hear it? This magnificent mansion offers a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of the Edo period. As the sun gradually sets and the street lights begin to come on, the udatsu and its lights add a touch of elegance and charm. We discovered a shining golden udatsu! I have a feeling that my fortunes will improve somehow. The soft light of the Japanese paper and the lights is fantastic. There are many things to see and delicious things to eat at the udatsu during the day, but please also visit the quiet, fantastic townscape at night. Thank you for watching until the end. How did you enjoy your trip around the historical and atmospheric streets of Mino ? If you would like to visit, please click the GOOD button and subscribe to the channel.
