2025年11月6日 金沢(近代美術館、兼六園、東茶屋町)

The sixth stop on Part 1 of my Reset Vacation. It was Kanazawa City. In Kanazawa, I stayed at Hotel Amanek Kanazawa. Many foreign guests stayed at this hotel. In fact, Kanazawa City was full of foreigners. On the first day, we toasted with beer and enjoyed some delicious sashimi. Ishikawa Prefecture is home to a wealth of delicious sake, so I enjoyed some. The next morning, the first thing I did was buy a one-day bus pass. It costs 800 yen and allows unlimited rides on buses to major areas of the city. This gives you discounts at some tourist attractions. First, I went to Kanazawa Station. This is Tsuzumimon Gate. The souvenir street around Kanazawa Station is incredibly beautiful and impressive. There are many sweet shops, a Wajima lacquerware shop, and a sake shop. You can buy a wide selection of Kanazawa sweets. They also have gold leaf. Ishikawa Prefecture is famous for gold leaf. This is a Wajima lacquerware shop. Chopsticks. Wait, I’m saying something petty like, “The good ones are expensive.” They also have beautiful tableware and trays. It’s so beautiful, I’m sure foreign visitors would be delighted to see it. I had breakfast at a Hokuriku-based bakery recommended by the station information desk. I think I had the sweet potato bread. It was delicious. After that, we went to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. This is a modern art museum. A group of children from a school in Kanazawa were visiting. There’s a swimming pool right inside. You can see it from both the outside and the inside. It ‘s incredibly popular, so you need a reservation to get inside, which you make through the museum’s reservation system. I think we waited about an hour or two. From the outside, it looks like there are people in the water. You enter from underground. When you enter the blue light, it looks like you’re in a pool from the outside. There are also several modern art exhibits. I’m not particularly artistic, so I just walked around, wondering if I thought they were particularly appealing. They’re outdoor sculptures. They’re chairs, so I sat down. The entrance to Kenrokuen Garden is just across the intersection near the museum. I also strolled around Kenrokuen Garden. The pines were magnificent. They seemed to be hung there all the time, not just for yukitsuri (snow-hanging) purposes, so I suspect they’re doing it all the time. The other trees didn’t seem to have been hung yet, so I think they’ll probably do the yukitsuri soon. I didn’t pay much attention to which ponds or islands were in the middle, but I just strolled around leisurely and enjoyed the scenery. The weather was nice, so it was beautiful. The leaves were starting to change color. The pines were magnificent. I took a bus to Higashi Chaya District. Turning this corner, you’ll see the familiar scenery from the brochures. Yes, this is it. It’s called a teahouse district, but I wondered how many teahouses are actually still in operation. There are souvenir shops, liquor stores, and cafes, so I think there aren’t many real teahouses around. I spoke to someone at the tourist information center, and they said the shops in these areas have a high turnover rate. It’s rare to find such a well-maintained, old street. This is a liquor store. It’s called Fukumitsuya, and I think it’s quite well-known. I’m sure it’s readily available in other areas as well. As usual, I bought a bottle here. It’s Kaga Tobi sake, brewed using the Yamahai method. It was delicious at room temperature. This is the Asano River. Crossing the river again, on the other side, is another teahouse district. It’s called Kazuemachi Teahouse District. I heard that Higashi Chayamachi was full, so the lord gave permission to build more. Kanazawa was spared air raids, so these structures remain. The roads seem narrower than Higashi Chayamachi. There are fewer people. What’s surprising is that there are so many teahouses in a town of this size. It’s a bit strange to think that there was such demand. This is a dark, dreary place. After that, I went to Omicho Market. It was around 4 p.m., but I think the market would be more open if you came in the morning. By the evening, there were hardly any fish left. It’s this time of year, so there are rows of crabs. After this, we went to Takaoka the next day, so please look forward to that as well.
