Would I be able to tell in winter when there’s less grass? Futase Bridge View from Futase Bridge Tsukigawa River Cherry Blossom Embankment I’d like to come back during cherry blossom season Senkizawa Bridge Sennen-no-En Lavender Garden The Lavender Festival is held every June Now, let’s go for lunch Ranzan Machi’s specialty, the Terra Burger vending machine Which one should I get? Located in the center of the Hiki Hills Saitama’s Ranzan Town is a naturally rich region of mountains, valleys, and plains It’s also known for being home to the Japanese purple emperor butterfly, the national butterfly When forestry expert Dr. Honda Seiroku visited the area he named it Musashi-Ranzan because of its resemblance to Kyoto’s Arashiyama Arashiyama and Ranzan have the same characters but are pronounced differently Perhaps this was a nod to Kyoto Yosano Akiko’s “Hikinotani” poem monument Apparently, due to internet memes, many people mistakenly believe Yosano Akiko to be a martial artist Ranzan Valley Observatory Let’s go off-road a little to see the Ranzan Rock Formation There’s no sign, but I think this might be it Ranzan Rock Formation We got lost trying to take a shortcut We’ve come to a place with a great view Are there bears around here too? Let’s proceed while being careful of bears Raiden Shrine This seems to be the summit of Mt. Ohira It’s only a glimpse of the view But if we walk a little further Mt. Ohira Observation Deck Ranzan Town and Hatoyama Town Beyond that, central Tokyo We can even faintly see the Skytree Let’s go down Inari Shrine Finally, we found the signpost
