📍”Kekkon Iwai no Matsuri” (Wedding Celebration Festival) refers to a special performance of the Fushiki Lion Dance held to congratulate newlyweds. In the Fushiki area of Toyama, when a festival is held, the long, multi-person “Mukade Jishi” (Centipede Lion) visits the homes of new couples or those who have built a new house.
This specific performance is called “Iwai-bana” (Celebration Flower) or “Yome-bana” (Bride’s Flower). The Lion is believed to have a mystical power to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune. By dancing at the new couple’s home, it is a powerful way for the community to bless their marriage with health, prosperity, and a happy future.
