Thank you for watching my videos. This time I’m in Fuji City. I suddenly had the urge to go to an okonomiyaki restaurant that I used to go to often when I lived in Hara, Numazu City a few years ago. It was amazingly delicious and had great value for money , and I thought, “I should act on my whim,” so I headed there right away. To explain the location using a map, if you’re coming from Route 139, turn right at the traffic light where Maruhan Yoshiwara store and Motoasakuma are located, then turn left at the end of the road. After turning left, your destination will be a little further down the road on your left, and you’ll see this sign at the entrance, so it should be easy to find . Also, if you’re heading down the road I just explained, this is the street you’ll follow. After turning left at the end, go about 120 meters and you’ll see the sign on your left, so you’ll know it’s there . If you’re still confused, just wander down the main street behind the Round One Fuji store and you’ll eventually arrive. This restaurant, Kikori, is located in Yatsushiro-cho, Fuji City. Its business hours are 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM, with last orders at 9:00 PM. It’s open all day on Sundays and holidays, and closed on Mondays. There’s parking in front of the restaurant for about 10 cars, but it’s gravel, so if you’re coming by motorcycle, it’s a good idea to bring a stand holder. Let’s go! The interior is built in a log cabin style, with high ceilings and a calming atmosphere, and the fish in the aquarium are also soothing. There’s also seating for four, a tatami room for six, and tatami rooms for two to four. Let’s take a look at the menu! First up is okonomiyaki, which comes in green onion, meat, squid, mix, natto, bacon, cheese, tuna and corn, shrimp, kimchi tempura, beef tendon, spicy beef innards, seafood and oysters, and then there’s yakisoba and udon, which comes in meat, squid, shrimp and mix, with the small size each being 100 yen off and the large size being 100 yen more.Next up is monjayaki, which comes in meat, squid, mix, shrimp, mentaiko, meat and kimchi mochi, and toppings include mochi, corn, baby star, cheese, natto and noodles. Next up was the drink menu and desserts . They had a wide selection of soft drinks, soft ice cream, and shaved ice, as well as alcohol. Maybe it was just my imagination, but the prices didn’t seem to have changed much since then. Next up was the teppanyaki menu, which offered sets of grilled vegetables, innards, chicken skin, chicken cartilage, pork kimchi, grilled squid, tongue, heart, cheeks, pork belly, liver, and kalbi. The gyoza set consisted of three items: squid, shrimp, and kimchi. As for appetizers, there were grilled rice balls, rice, meatballs, yakitori, coarsely ground beef, kimchi, tokoroten (tokoroten), edamame, and chilled tofu . Overall, it looked like this. Prices seem to have gone up a little compared to a few years ago, but I still think they’re cheap. The drink menu is also affordable, which is nice. And the table service is like this, as you’d expect from a teppanyaki restaurant. There’s a wide variety. By the way, the container on the far right contains lard. Now that our order is complete, we wait patiently for our food to arrive. First up is grilled vegetables for 450 yen. I ordered this with the idea of vegetables first in mind. It would make a good snack for those who drink alcohol with their meal. Lightly seasoning this with sauce makes it a great appetizer. Okonomiyaki beef tendon: 750 yen including tax. I liked this dish when I used to frequent this place a few years ago, and I often ordered it. First, drop the raw egg in the center and mix it all together thoroughly. Then, lightly add lard, and then drop the beef tendon okonomiyaki that you mixed earlier onto the hot plate and shape it. The trick is to make it a little higher rather than making it too flat, as this will help convey the fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth texture of the okonomiyaki more easily. Once it’s cooked to a certain extent, you flip it over, but I failed a little (lol). Next up is the yakisoba mix, 650 yen. The mix contains meat, squid, and shrimp, and you grill the meat and squid first. Next, add the cabbage, pour in the sauce, and after it’s seasoned, add the steamed flavor that is unique to Fujinomiya yakisoba, mix it well, and it’s done. What do you think? I think it turned out pretty good. I think the okonomiyaki that I made earlier was cooked nicely, so all that’s left to do is season and aroma each part and it’s done. Add the okonomiyaki sauce. Apply a generous amount and then add your killer mayo beam until you think “this is it!” and it’s done. Next, sprinkle a generous amount of setsubun roe and green laver on the yakisoba and it’s done, and now it’s time to eat it. The yakisoba has steamed noodles with a strong texture, and Takechiyo’s recommended beef tendon okonomiyaki is finally finished. The yakisoba is consistently delicious, and the okonomiyaki is plump and chewy, just as delicious as when I had it years ago. By the way, when you put it on a chicken plate, it looks like this. The okonomiyaki is incredibly plump , but can I explain how plump it is? Kikori’s okonomiyaki is really tasty, cheap and very cost-effective, so it’s definitely a dish you should try at least once. The beef tendon is well seasoned and really tasty. The yakisoba and grilled vegetables are also excellent, and you can enjoy teppanyaki at your leisure while drinking alcohol. I’m very envious of people who live nearby. By the way, please note that payment is cash only. Also, Kikori has a stamp card, and when you collect 10 stamps, they will give you a free okonomiyaki. When I was paying, I was asked, “Do you have a stamp card?” and when I answered, “I left it at home,” they said they would combine the stamps next time, but I already had 10 stamps, and it was already cheap, so I felt a bit bad to get another free one. And when I looked at the date, it was 10 years ago lol. I’m surprised at how good my things are (lol). This time, I visited Kikori in Yatsushiro-cho, Fuji City for the first time in a while. I was relieved to find that the taste was just as good as it was 10 years ago, and I was really surprised that the cost performance was still as good as ever. If you’d like to visit Kikori, I highly recommend it. Give our beef tendon okonomiyaki a try. You’ll be amazed at how good the value and flavor are! Now, let’s move on to our next restaurant, so please read on. Our next restaurant is also in Fuji City. I’d like to visit a trendy, traditional Japanese-style hideaway cafe. To get there, head straight ahead on National Route 1 from Numazu. Turn right at the Mega Donki Nagasato traffic light. Continue straight at the Kawajiri traffic light. Continue along the road until you reach the riverside. Turn left at the first traffic light. About 250 meters down the road, you’ll find it at the end of Lake Suzu. Another way to get there is to turn left at the Kawajiri traffic light. Turn right at the traffic light with the 7-Eleven and continue along the road. It’s more than just a hideaway; it’s truly hidden. So, if you’re close, head toward the small lake called Suzuko and you’ll find the restaurant right in front of you. If you’re heading from the direction I mentioned earlier, you ‘ll see a sign for the parking lot right in front of the restaurant . This area isn’t particularly well-known, so it was a bit difficult to find. It’s truly a hidden gem, after all. Then I noticed a sign next to the entrance of this building and thought “Ah, this is it” and finally arrived at this shop, Cafe 1518, located in Nakazato, Fuji City. Opening hours are from 8am to 6pm and closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There is parking for 3 cars on the lake side and also at the back of the store. Also, since the parking lot is gravel, it would be safer if you go by motorcycle to have a stand holder. So let’s go! Let’s visit ♪ As you step inside, you will first come across the entrance, where you have to take off your shoes before entering the store, making sure to put them in the shoe locker. The inside of the store looks like this. There are 2-person and 4-person tables in the Japanese-style room, and there are also 2-person tables on the veranda. By the way, this store was built with the help of a carpenter. They renovated the old house themselves, creating a cozy atmosphere reminiscent of visiting grandma’s house as a child, with a touch of chic here and there. This time, I’d like to enjoy my meal on the veranda while looking out at the view . Let’s take a look at the menu. First, 1518 serves breakfast from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, then opens as a cafe from 11:00 AM. Next, their autumn menu includes mushroom miso cream hamburger, Mont Blanc parfait, and Mont Blanc pudding. Next, their regular menu includes three types of hamburger, Japanese-style keema curry with rice , and Japanese-style gapao. They also offer set drinks and a weekday-only mini parfait set. Next, there are three types of meal galettes and three dessert galettes. This place also offers a set drink and a weekday-only mini parfait set . And then there’s the sweets. They have pudding, zenzai, anmitsu, parfaits, gateau au chocolat, cheesecake, and ice cream. Next up is the drink menu: house-roasted coffee, Japanese black tea, soft drinks, cream soda , floats, Vienna coffee, lattes, and cocoa. There’s also a children’s menu, offering curry, doria, and juice. There’s also a special bucket of puddings, which you need to order the day before. The house-roasted coffee varieties are listed below. The explanations make you want to try different varieties. Now that my order is complete, I’ll be patient and enjoy the views inside and outside the restaurant while I wait for my food to arrive. The Japanese-style gapao with minced chicken and eggplant is 1,320 yen (tax included). I asked the staff for a food recommendation, and they recommended this Japanese-style gapao, so I ordered it. In addition to the gapao, it comes with salad and soup. This gapao is Japanese-style, with a mild aroma and gentle spices. It’s incredibly delicious. The seasoning of the onions is particularly strong, and the eggplant releases a rich umami flavor with every bite , perfectly pairing with the rice. I think even those who aren’t big fans of spices will find this gapao easy to eat and enjoy. Next up is salad and soup. The salad’s dressing is delicious, and the light soup is mildly seasoned, perfect for this chilly season and warming body. Next, I mashed an egg and ate it all together. The texture of the onions, the umami of the eggplant, and the soft egg combined with the rice create a milder flavor, making it feel like a luxurious bowl of rice with raw egg on top . The staff recommended the Japanese-style gapao, which was absolutely delicious! Next up was the daily cheesecake and drink set. The cheesecake of the day was lemon. The cheesecake was even moister and chewier than I expected, and the lemon on top had a wonderful texture and aroma. The Japanese black tea that came with the set was also fragrant and refreshing. Payment methods include cash, credit card, and QR code payment. They also offer a wide selection of coffees and a service to help you find the perfect coffee. This winter , the Ichi Coffee temporary shop will be renovated to offer a hands-on service that reflects the shop’s vision. If you’d like more information, please ask the staff. This time, I visited Kominka Cafe 1518 in Nakazato, Fuji City. While the location can be a little difficult to find if you’re not familiar with the area, I’m sure you’ll be satisfied with the atmosphere, delicious food, and desserts. If you’re interested in stylish old-style cafes, why not give Ichigoichie a try? Thank you for always watching until the end.
