Our first stop is Hikosan Daigongen in Soeda Town, Tagawa District, Fukuoka Prefecture, where a beautiful garden blends autumn foliage with the dry landscape garden, showcasing the mountain’s autumnal peaks. A short walk from the footpath toward the shrine leads to “Momiji Valley,” and a short distance away, Yunotani Betsuin Temple, where the statue of Acala stands among the autumn foliage. The contrast between the colorful maples and the autumn leaves is a delight. Next, we’ll visit Donzan Kannonji Temple in Sasaguri Town, Kasuya District, Fukuoka Prefecture. A diverse range of trees paint the grounds and approach road crimson red. This exceptional head temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, affectionately known as “Miyayama-san,” is a popular destination for worshippers seeking fulfillment of their wishes. The temple is also a popular spot for viewing autumn foliage. The diverse trees on the temple grounds and approach to the temple begin to change color from late October, reaching their peak in November. The most abundant trees are maples and enkianthus azaleas, with approximately 1,000 of each. Located on the northeastern slope of Mount Hiko , one of Japan’s most sacred mountains , known for its beautiful autumn foliage and divine presence, Takazumi Shrine, also known as Hikosan Buzenbo, is a spot often featured on television during the autumn foliage season. The autumn foliage at Raizan Sennyoji Daihioin Temple in Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a historic temple located midway up Mount Raizan. The temple grounds are home to a large maple tree, said to be approximately 400 years old and designated a natural monument by Fukuoka Prefecture, making it a famous spot for viewing autumn foliage. You can also enjoy the colorful scenery of over 200 maple trees in Shinji Garden, which was created during the Muromachi period. Autumn foliage typically begins in late October, with maples and ginkgo trees beginning to change color from early to mid-November. Kamado Shrine, Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture : This shrine is located at the foot of Mount Homan, a mountain revered as the home of the gods. It is beloved as the trailhead for Mount Homan and a shrine for the god of matchmaking. During the autumn foliage season, the 300 maple trees change color in various shades, adorning the grounds. The autumn leaves are concentrated around the steps of the autumn approach, creating a beautiful gradation of red as far as the eye can see. Our final stop is Ino Park in Hisayama Town, Kasuya District, Fukuoka Prefecture. This park is located close to Ino Amaterasu Omikami Shrine, and the clear Inogawa River flows around it, enveloping it.
