【ホテル宿泊記】憧れのホテル・ザッハーでスイートルームに滞在しザッハトルテとウィーンの街並みを堪能する大人の休日

I’m traveling with friends over the summer in Europe. After visiting Frankfurt and London, I’m finally in Vienna, Austria. I’m taking an Uber from Vienna International Airport to my hotel. I’m really looking forward to staying at this hotel, as it’s one I’ve always wanted to stay at. I adjusted my flight schedule to accommodate this. It’s about a 30-minute drive from the airport to the city center, where my hotel is located . I arrive in Vienna’s Old Town, the heart of the city. I can see the State Opera. Vienna is the city of music. Opera and ballet performances are held here almost every night. Right next to it is my hotel. The world-renowned Hotel Sacher, a symbol of Vienna, is captivating. I’m captivated by its elegant appearance. It’s a dream come true. I’m greeted by staff in beautiful uniforms. Member of the LHW and awarded Michelin Key 3. Founded in 1876 , Hotel Sacher Wien is a world like this one. It’s beautiful. Everything exudes dignity and elegance. Further inside, we are greeted by the elegant lobby lounge, its traditional red. I’m overjoyed to see Sacher’s iconic space unfold before me. I check in in the small space next to it. I’m really looking forward to staying in a suite . A staff member guides me to my room. As you’d expect from a historic, prestigious hotel, there are plenty of photos of famous people. From royalty to presidents and movie stars, the hotel has a long list of world-famous guests. Before heading to my room, I’m given a tour of the hotel. A concierge is always on hand at the entrance to help you have a comfortable stay. I take the classic elevator in the corner of the lobby to my room. It operates with a touch of a key. While Sacher is a popular tourist destination, it’s quieter from here on out. The hotel has six floors, with 152 rooms, 78 of which are suites. The guest room area has a completely different atmosphere. It looks like this room. My room is the “NORMA SUITE,” named after Bellini’s masterpiece opera, “Norma.” You tap a room key with a chip attached. Hello. The room seems to open up at the end of a long corridor. I nervously walked further inside, but it was magnificent. It’s so beautiful. It’s about 50 square meters. The high ceilings make it feel spacious. The gorgeous interior reflects the world of opera, and the furnishings are all one-of-a-kind. What can you see from the window? You can see 19th-century buildings, featuring sculptures and colonnades from the old town. You’re enveloped in the Vienna cityscape without leaving your room. I turned around and took a closer look inside the room. The bed was very large, with high-quality pillows and mattresses. The living area featured a fireplace and a large mirror. The chandelier added to the elegant atmosphere. On the table were welcome amenities and beautiful roses. Sweets and plenty of fruit were arranged on a classical stand. The sweets were rich and delicious. I was happy to see the variety of fruit, too. I’ll have some later. The sheer number of roses was the highlight. They’re my favorite variety, so I couldn’t stop staring at them. Bottled water was also provided. The pale gray and white walls, accented with gold and red, create a stylish look. There was a table by the window. Chilled champagne was waiting for me next to the sofa. It was Laurent-Perrier. I’d have some fruit later. In front of the sofa was a classic marble fireplace. It turned out to be a state-of-the-art electric model. There was a remote control on top of the fireplace. I touched another remote, and a TV appeared from inside the fireplace. It ‘s usually hidden to match the room’s ambiance. While maintaining its classic ambiance, the latest smart TV offers comfort. The sofa was large and could accommodate two people. Even the smallest details were stylish and beautiful. Looking up, a sparkling chandelier lit up the room. A jacquard floral fabric headboard. It was beautiful and elegant no matter how you photographed it. Next to the pillow was this: Sacher’s original Sachertorte. Everyone visits this hotel for this. Guests are happy to have it in their rooms. There was an outlet next to the bed. The lighting could be adjusted by the pillow. And here’s the bathroom. It’s beautiful, entirely made of marble. I was deeply impressed by Sacher’s unique worldview and its impressive history. As someone born and raised in Japan, everything is fascinating. There’s a minibar near the entrance to the room. It ‘s spacious and easy to use. There’s a Nespresso machine, water, and capsules in the drawer. Opening the cupboard, I found this: a mirrored drawer, and on the other side, a refrigerator. A pure white C&S. The gold Sacher logo is elegant. The coasters also have the logo. It’s simple, befitting a prestigious hotel. Below that drawer, there are glasses. The inside of the refrigerator is impressive. Snacks and plenty of wine. There’s also a variety at the bottom. At the top, there are snacks and small items. There are two original snacks. These are smoked almonds. Craft spitz from an Austrian distillery. Milk from the Nordic brand Arla. Lindt’s Lindor sticks are also available. And there’s Austria’s signature red wine. There’s also a selection of international white wines. The champagne is Bollinger. The small bottles below. Non-alcoholic drinks are apparently complimentary. There was peach and hibiscus iced tea and a Coca-Cola with “Vienna Girl” written in German. There was also a small bottle of Laurent-Perrier. There was also a bottle of Red Bull. We arrived at the bathroom. The marble and mirrors were dazzling. It was a captivating space. There was a large bathtub, perfect for relaxation. There was a large mirror and two bowls. There was plenty of space for personal belongings. The curved design. Original body lotion was provided. Original soap and bath amenities. Here’s what was inside: a large TV and a magnifying mirror with a light. Towels with a gold logo. Slippers. The towels had a luxurious, fluffy texture with long pile. There was a hairdryer and scale at the foot. Turning around, we found the large, deep bathtub. Original shampoos with infused fragrances. There was a print of the area around the Opera House, reminiscent of the streetscape when the hotel first opened. The towel bar and classic telephone-style shower were lovely. Further back, it seemed, there was a toilet and shower. Bathrobes. They were thick and fluffy, yet light, which was a delight. The toilet was tankless. The shower room is spacious and also marble. Original shampoos are provided in large bottles. What did you think? The room was very elegant and comfortable. It’s a classic hotel, but it’s equipped with modern amenities. You can learn about Sacher’s history and view the hotel guide. You can also check out the in-room dining menu. There are many original, elaborate dishes, which I’m intrigued by. Apparently, there are also many original specialty drinks. You can even order their signature dish, the original Sachertorte, which can be delivered to your home. I’m looking forward to eating it later. Now, even though it’s a short time, I want to fully enjoy my time at Sacher. I’m going to explore the hotel. The staff will be showing me around, and I’m looking forward to it. There seem to be many suites on this floor. They’re named after operas, such as Carmen and La Traviata. Take the elevator to the lobby floor (E). The hotel is made up of multiple buildings connected together, so each room has its own elevator. The lobby is a popular gathering spot for guests. We embark on a hotel exploration with the staff. First, we visit the Sacher family, who founded the hotel. Franz, a 16-year-old chef, improvised the Sachertorte. His son, Eduard, refined the recipe and served it in the patisserie and cafe. This fame led to the founding of “Hotel Sacher Wien” in 1876, creating one of Vienna’s most iconic hotels. Among the many photographs, we also see the former Emperor of Japan. The maze-like interior of the hotel is a complex one. This is the Red Salon, a lounge-like space for guests. The staircase walls are lined with photos of famous guests. Every year, a famous artist designs a special Sachertorte package. The archives are beautifully displayed. We return to the main lobby. Apparently , this building was not bombed during World War II. The interior of the neighboring Opera House was rebuilt after the war, making this a truly unique experience. Next to the elevator is the “Blue Bar,” with its blue theme. Next, the striking green “Grune Bar” boasts Vienna’s first Lobmeyr chandelier, using Edison bulbs. The downward-facing design is precisely due to the electric chandelier. A candle would drip, wouldn’t it? The restaurant serves sophisticated Viennese cuisine. The space blends good old-fashioned elegance with modern, fresh cuisine. The old menu items are turned into art. Next, we head to the restaurant where breakfast is served. This bar also has a different atmosphere, a truly impressive sight. The marble walls and numerous chandeliers are beautiful. The pure white tablecloths, fresh flowers, and silverware complement the breakfast buffet, which is served in the adjacent space, and I’m looking forward to it. We arrive at the entrance. It’s a space that makes you want to stop and look again and again. Apparently, the main restaurant is located here, so I’ll take a look. The blue “Blue Bar,” the green “Grune Bar,” and the “Rote Bar”—which literally means red—are a bright red space, just as the name suggests. This is the image of Sacher. Enjoy traditional Viennese cuisine made with the finest ingredients and craftsmanship. There’s live piano music and a sunny terrace. We head to the cafe, where Sachertorte is served, a popular spot every day. In the hallway, we spotted something wonderful: Anna Sacher, wife of founder Eduardo. She is the hostess who built the hotel into a world-renowned institution. This tablecloth, autographed by Anna, is embroidered with the names of approximately 400 famous people, including Emperor Franz Joseph I in the center. This tradition continues to this day, and the current tablecloth is on its sixth iteration. Names of Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Patrick Dempsey, and George Clooney are also featured. There are also names of Japanese rock stars. The hotel is maze-like. Climbing the staircase lined with the photos above leads to the second cafe, so we take a look inside. It’s lovely. This is also a red, spacious space, and everyone is enjoying Sachertorte. It’s called “Cafe Bel Etage” and has two floors. The large chandelier that spans the entire floor is impressive. Let’s go downstairs. There are many people lined up. The lower floor has a slightly more casual feel, with seating. And here’s the takeout sales area. They offer original Sachertorte in various sizes. In addition to Sachertorte, they also have adorable items like this. There’s even a teddy bear dressed in the hotel uniform. There were also smaller ones. I’ll buy one as a souvenir. In addition to Sachertorte, they also offer signature coffees and hot chocolates. I was surprised to learn they sell over 1,000 of them a day. The hotel offers many different room types, but we were shown a special suite. These are connecting rooms that can be used separately. The space connecting the two rooms has a kitchen for guests. The “WINENER PHILHARMOIKER SUITE” is named after Vienna’s prestigious orchestra, known as the world’s best. This special 155-square-meter room overlooks the Vienna State Opera. I was captivated by its exquisite furnishings and materials. This is the bedroom. Between it and the living room is a study-like area, filled with lovely furnishings . The living room is spacious. Being a corner room, it’s filled with plenty of light. The parquet floor dates back to 1878, the plaster ceiling dates back to 1900, the walls are filled with paintings, and the chandeliers are sparkling. Everything about the room is beautiful and historic. Despite its historic value, the bathroom and bathroom are state-of-the-art, making it extremely comfortable and clean. The monochrome design is elegant. The gold accents are very beautiful. This special suite has welcomed many famous people. I came to Cafe Sacher to try the original Sachertorte, which I’d been looking forward to. There’s a long line on the day, but reserving a seat online in advance will expedite the process. They offer a wide variety of food and drinks, so I plan to dine there as well. As I mentioned earlier, I learned about the original Sachertorte and the hotel’s history. Since the hotel is open from 7:00 AM, I chose the breakfast menu. The menu is written in German on the left and in English on the right. The most popular item is the Sachertorte and drink set menu. Drinks include the famous and classic Sacher Melange and the traditional Viennese Einspänner. Their original hot chocolate and black tea are also delicious. They also offer sencha tea. They also have original sausages and Wiener schnitzel, which I’ll try. They also have a menu for alcoholic beverages. The interior is casual compared to the hotel’s grand and opulent appearance. The elegant space features striking red, and terrace seating is available. My drink arrived. It was impressive, and I felt like I could immerse myself in the sweetness of Vienna. Eiskaffee, a summer specialty in Vienna, is vanilla ice cream topped with espresso and garnished with plenty of whipped cream. The food menu was also laid out. Everything looked delicious. We ordered the traditional “Wiener Schnitzel,” a Viennese specialty made of thinly sliced, breaded, and deep-fried veal. We also ordered a Caesar salad with chicken. These are the vegetable garnishes that accompany schnitzel. Apparently, cranberries or potatoes can also be added. The balance between the fragrant, delicate batter and the thinly sliced veal was exquisite. We ate it with a squeeze of lemon. For dessert, we had the original Sachertorte. We chose an Americano and an Einspanner, a double espresso with whipped cream. It was a rich chocolate sponge cake with apricot jam inside. It was not too sweet, with the bitterness of the cocoa and the tartness of the jam perfectly complementing each other. What makes Sacher’s original Sachertorte so special is its secret recipe, exquisite apricot jam, and one-of-a-kind glaze. It’s the original Sachertorte. It’s a joy to be able to eat it at Hotel Sacher. It was a dream come true. Thank you for the meal. I decided to venture out into the city for a bit. Hotel Sacher is located in Vienna’s Old Town, the heart of the city, making it the perfect base for sightseeing. It’s part of the Old Town’s traditional streets, so you can really feel the Viennese vibe just by staying there. The fact that it’s across the street from the Opera House is fantastic. You can easily catch an evening performance or join a daytime guided tour. There’s also a ticket booth for Mozart concerts for tourists next to the Opera House. The Opera House courtyard is also very beautiful. Behind the hotel is the Albertina Museum. The Habsburg Gardens, famous for their statue of Mozart, are also nearby, along with the Burggarten and Hofburg Palace. The supermarkets in the area sell many popular souvenirs, and I bought Manner wafers and Mozartkugel. With strolling, shopping, and eating, night flew by before I knew it. The room was turned down and night chocolates were waiting for me. Good night. Good morning. An elegant morning at Hotel Sacher. It was the end of July, but the mornings and evenings were very cool and comfortable. I got ready and headed for breakfast. The lobby is beautiful, no matter how many times I see it. I took photos every time I passed by. From the lobby, I headed to the breakfast restaurant I’d seen yesterday. The buffet room, which I hadn’t seen yesterday, had a wide selection of beautifully presented dishes in a separate room. I sat down and ordered coffee and fresh juice. Apparently, they also have a made-to-order menu, so I took a look. Everything looked delicious, from simple egg dishes to specialties featuring caviar and lobster. There was also a wide selection of hot dishes, including crepes and French toast. I saw a menu item that caught my eye, so I ordered one. The buffet room. Let’s take a look at the menu. The original sparkling wine was chilled. Vienna is a paradise for sweets. Cakes were lined up from the morning. Cereals are served in beautiful containers. Cold cuts and fruit are available on a counter covered with ice. Yogurt, milk, and various fruits are available. Original truffle ham, Vlkai prosciutto, Austrian cheese, international cheeses, nuts, and dried fruit are also available. Breads and salads are beautifully displayed here, including tomato, cucumber, mozzarella, hummus, and avocado dip. There’s a wide variety of breads, including traditional Austrian favorites like Semmel. The aromas are wonderful. Honeycomb and original jams are also available. Guests can also enjoy the original Sachertorte, which is available in their rooms and for breakfast. Cream is also available. Sacher’s original fudge cake and kugelhopf are also available. There’s also a cute kids’ corner with original coloring books and colored pencils. Easy-to-eat snacks are available. Both children and parents will enjoy them. The illustrations in the coloring books are beautiful, depicting the hotel. Guests can choose their favorites and enjoy them on their plates. I wish I had chosen a more Austrian-inspired bread. The ham was moist and delicious. It was a truly elegant morning. I decided to try some cheese and fruit. They had a variety of original jams on the table, as well as their own ketchup and mustard. My friend ordered an omelet. It was perfectly cooked and topped with her favorite toppings. You can also add the original Sacher sausage or veal sausage. They also had a smoothie bowl filled with fruit and seeds, which she said was delicious. I ordered the original Scheiterhaufen, a traditional Austrian bread pudding. It was paired with chocolate, raisins, the sweet and sour taste of apples, and a rich vanilla sauce. It was a luxurious breakfast with many original options, and I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal. My flight was approaching, and I had to leave. My stay at Hotel Sacher flew by. I asked the concierge to help me drop off my suitcases and other luggage. One night was not enough. I wish I could have stayed longer. I headed to check out. The staff were even friendlier than I’d expected. I’d like to stay longer next time. I’d also requested a ride to the airport. They were already waiting. They asked me how my stay was and asked if I’d like to come again . My luggage, which I’d left with the concierge, was already in the car. I was leaving for Vienna International Airport. Finally, I was able to stay at the long-awaited Hotel Sacher. For lovers of classical music, sweets, and anyone who loves travel, this is a special place worth visiting at least once in their lifetime. I was able to experience firsthand the hotel’s world-class prestige. Before I knew it, I’d arrived at the airport. You can also purchase Hotel Sacher’s original Sachertorte at the airport. I picked up some souvenirs and headed back to Tokyo. It was a fantastic summer trip to Europe. Thank you for reading until the end. Where should I go next? That’s all from Lily.
