Seven Must-See Spots for Autumn Colours in Fukushima Prefecture
Not long until Fukushima looks like this… 🍂
It’s approaching autumn colour season in Japan, known as ‘kouyou’ (紅葉) when leaves turn to reds and golds across the country. If you’re visiting Fukushima anytime from late October to early December, you’ll have a chance to see some beautiful autumnal scenery somewhere!
The best time to see the leaves changes a little every year, but here are the dates I went in 2024:
1. Shirahata Gingko, Shinchi Town 12.6 (1hr drive east from Fukushima City)
2. Bishamon-numa Ponds, Kitashiobara 11.12 (1hr drive south-west from Fukushima City)
3. Nakatsugawa Valley, Kitashiobara 11.1 (close to Bishamon-numa)
4. Enzoji Temple, Yanaizu 11.20 (1hr Tadami Line train from Aizu-Wakamatsu Station)
5. Great Gingko of Akai, Aizu-Wakamatsu 11.12 (25min drive from Aizu-Wakamatsu Station)
6. Suzumigaoka Hachiman Shrine, Soma 12.6 (1hr drive east from Fukushima City)
7. Hanitsu Shrine, Inawashiro 11.12 (6min drive from Inawashiro Station, 1hr from Koriyama)
Which one would you most like to visit? 🏃
