KYOTO -Japanese Tea Room- Hello. We’re in the beautiful season of autumn leaves. How are you all doing? This video introduces six must-visit Japanese tea shops in Kyoto. Both are wonderful shops. I hope you’ll watch until the end. The first shop is “KYO” in Yanagihara on Takoyakushi-dori, just a five-minute walk from Karasuma Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line. “KYO AMAHARE ” was opened by “Amahara” in Shirokanedai, Tokyo, in a traditional Japanese townhouse. Today, we’ll be visiting a teahouse located in the storehouse at the back. The storehouse is dark and quiet. Soft light shines through, creating a cozy, enveloping atmosphere. There are three courses available, and we reserved the “Hakurin” course. You can choose two sweets from the sample box. The tea ceremony is performed right before your eyes. The gestures are beautiful. A pleasant sense of tension makes you stand up straight. It ‘s refreshing to the eye , and it’s a new type of Japanese sweet I’ve never tried before. The aroma is refreshing! It pairs perfectly with matcha. We also chose seasonal sencha from the sample. I chose sansho pepper and chamomile green tea, and my husband chose bankakucha, a blend of 30 wild herbs. It’s sencha, but it has a unique aroma. I’m going to buy some to take home! Each of the teacups is lovely… a mugwort gingham. The refreshing mugwort flavor fills the air. The tea, sweets, and tableware are all beautiful and flavorful . Listening to the sound of the rain, I spent a relaxing moment in the quiet space… There’s even a gallery on the second floor. Thank you for this beautiful, special time. Next, we headed to Gion Kitagawa Hanbei. It’s about a six-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Railway. This Japanese tea cafe is run by a matcha wholesaler in Uji. We had a luxurious platter of five roasted green tea sweets. Each one had a distinctly bitter and sweet roasted green tea flavor. This is a tea tasting set featuring five different types of tea. Each comes with a matching snack. Sencha goes perfectly with a punchy pickled shibazuke . The shop staff taught us how to brew the tea properly and in the correct quantities. It was delicious, thank you for the meal. Now, on to the next shop… Our third stop is Ippodo Tea Shop Kaboku. It’s a five-minute walk from Kyoto City Hall Station on the Tozai Line. Founded in 1717 (the second year of the Kyoho era), this Japanese tea specialty shop is a favorite. I’ve been coming across this shop for years, and I’ve become a fan ever since. I even enjoy their tea at home. 🍵 The Kaboku tearoom at the Kyoto flagship store was renovated in December 2023. Though a long-established establishment, it’s a comfortable place to drop in for a cup of tea. They carefully taught us how to brew sencha. Sencha is meant to be enjoyed down to the last drop . I enjoyed the changing flavors of the second-grade and third-grade teas. It was a wonderful experience that not only soothed my throat, but also my soul. Thank you. ♡ Now, let’s move on to the next shop… The fourth is “Ikehanbunmuro.” It’s a four-minute walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station on the Keihan Main Line. This special teahouse, nestled on the banks of the Kamo River, is a place known only to those in the know. Inside the beautifully decorated shop, lined with tasteful folk art, you can enjoy carefully selected teas from Taiwan, China, and Japan. We start with a Taiwanese white tea. The first brew is brewed by the staff, who explain the process to us. It’s a special experience experiencing Taiwanese tea . The fruity sweetness, reminiscent of muscat and peach, is gentle on the tired body in the summer . From the second brew onward, we make our own. Apparently, you can enjoy about 10 brews! The leisurely brewing is also fun. So, how does the tea you brew yourself taste? The subtle variations in flavor are also wonderful . This is a Chinese aged raw tea. The tea is incredibly fragrant… With its mellow sweetness and refreshing palate , this shop allows you to rediscover the charm of tea and enjoy the summer steam without worrying about time. It’s a little hard to find, but that’s actually a good thing. It’s a relaxing, yet special time worth visiting… It was a luxurious, relaxing experience. It was delicious, thank you for the meal. Our fifth stop was “YUGEN,” a two-minute walk from Marutamachi Station on the Karasuma Line of the Kyoto Municipal Subway. This shop specializes in high-quality Japanese tea. The staff were friendly and provided detailed explanations. We were allowed to choose from a selection of matcha bowls lined up on the shelves. Watching the tea ceremony right in front of you is wonderful… It’s the season for delicious tea, and I sat up straight. The dessert was mugwort and pecan mochi. The mugwort aroma was plentiful and delicious. Ah, the tea strainer from “Torii Wire Mesh Crafts”… It’s so lovely… the fragrant tea. It pairs perfectly with the modern-style mochi. This shop is housed in a renovated four-story building, with the second floor now a gallery space complete with a tea room. The modern space is filled with items by artists. It was delicious, thank you for the meal. Finally, our sixth stop was “◯間 [MA],” a six-minute walk from Toji Station on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. “◯間 [MA]” is a teahouse where you can enjoy Japanese tea. This shop opened in 2019. Centered around the tea ceremony, it combines food, art, and aromas to create a variety of experiences through tea. You can choose from approximately 200 varieties of tea leaves. We poured thin matcha (thin) over thin-skinned manju (sweet buns) and enjoyed the Japanese sweets, which changed with the tea. It’s said that literary master Mori Ogai also preferred this style. First, we enjoyed the aroma. The gentle sound of hot water pouring was soothing, and we savored the different flavors of each of the three types of tea. You can taste the difference in sweetness, and it really feels like playing with tea. The osmanthus and strong tea yokan, and the sourness and bitterness of the plum, combine to create a refreshing taste. You can really feel the depth of Japanese culture. It was a delicious time that relaxed my mind. I hope this will be useful for your next trip to Kyoto. Thank you for watching until the end. Subscribing to the channel and giving it a high rating will encourage me. I hope to see you in the next video… Have a nice day🌞
