The final chapter of our journey through Hokkaido’s breathtaking scenery. Press the subtitle or CC button to enjoy full captions. Hello everyone, this is Watatabi. This time, we’re staying at a hot spring inn with a spectacular view in Hokkaido. All rooms have open-air baths, which is exciting. We’re located in Sobetsu Town, in southwestern Hokkaido. We’ll be staying at The Lake Suite Lake No Sumika, a hot spring inn located closest to Lake Toya, Japan’s third-largest caldera lake. We’ll be touring Hokkaido’s unique scenery and tourist spots along the way. No matter how many times I visit or where I drive, Hokkaido’s scenery always amazes me. We’ll be driving through this majestic natural landscape. Isn’t the road different? Wait , wait a minute, the toilet. Huh? The toilet might be closed… Oh, maybe it’s closed? I can’t use the toilet… By the way, what you see ahead is an abandoned hot spring. It used to be a hot spring town, but while the buildings remain, it’s now all abandoned. Raiden Onsen, once a bustling hot spring resort. The hot spring town opened in 1963, and all the facilities closed in 2019. By the way, the restrooms were usable. And it was very clean. Apparently, you can buy this hot spring . It says “Hot springs available.” It’s apparently 99,000 square meters. If you’re interested, please consider buying this hot spring town. Lol. I’m thinking today will be my last trip to Hokkaido, and the scenery has completely changed since I first arrived. Rather than autumn, it’s almost winter. Turn left here. My destination is four minutes away. There’s snow around here . The high mountains are covered in snow. I’m not on snow tires, so I’m driving slowly and carefully. I ‘m almost there, but there’s still a ton of snow left. I did n’t expect it to snow… even though I ‘m not on snow tires, and there’s no snow at all at the foot of the mountain… I didn’t expect it to snow. There seems to be a parking lot over there, so I look over there. Oh, that’s it. There’s a hot spring bubbling up next to a hot spring facility called Yuki Chichibu. Wow, there’s so much steam rising. It smells amazing! We’ve arrived. This is Oyunuma in Niseko Yumoto Onsen. Sulfur-containing gas and steam are spewing out from the bottom of the pond like this. The constituents are dissolved in the water that flows into the pond, making it a natural hot spring pond. The mountain in front of us is covered in snow. The contrast with the Niseko Mountains is incredibly beautiful. I’d like to go see it up close. It hasn’t snowed or accumulated anywhere, but it’s already piled up around here. There’s a light flurry of snow falling now. It’s cold! The temperature is about 3 degrees. Wow! Amazing! Hot springs are bubbling up everywhere. My feet are slippery. Is it hot, or is it warm enough to swim in? It’s so cold I’m shivering…I almost want to jump into the pond. You can enjoy this hot spring at the hot spring facility there, but it’s only 7am, so I’ll give up for today. It smells so good, and the milky white color is irresistible. It’s muddy around here, but if I rubbed it on my body, it would probably make my skin shiny. It’s also gushing out from over there, but there’s no steam rising, so I wonder if it’s a cold spring? Standing in the direction of the steam, it feels like a sauna, incredibly warm and comfortable. There ‘s nothing particularly noteworthy to see, but it might be a good idea to stop by the swamp after soaking in the hot spring. Now, it’s time to head to our next destination. Snow has started to fall again. There’s still snow on the road around here, so we head carefully and slowly. There’s quite a bit of snow left. It’s October 22nd, but it’s already snow country. The scenery of Hokkaido has changed all at once… No way! Hold on, hold on, I can’t climb. Eh? Which way? Straight? The road is straight. It’s an emergency. My car’s tires are completely stuck. So I’ll change my route. It doesn’t look like I can go any further on normal tires. My tires are unusable. For now, I’ll head back the way I came. My navigation system suddenly announced a road closure ahead. I think it probably started at that time. Fortunately, the road closure was just around the corner. Oh no… After about five minutes of driving, the snow completely disappeared, and the scenery became more autumn-like. The car in front of me had a huge pile of snow on its roof. I’ve reached the base of Mt. Yotei. There’s a spot with a beautiful view of Mt. Yotei, so I’d like to head there. Turn left here. From here, I’ll go a little further into the mountains. The road is narrow, but there are occasional passing spots, so it’s fine. I’ve arrived. There’s a parking lot around the hut, and on the other side is the view . Mount Yotei , at 1,898 meters above sea level, is the highest mountain in southwestern Hokkaido. It’s a beautiful stratovolcano with an elliptical crater at its peak, approximately two kilometers in circumference. It’s nicknamed Ezo Fuji because of its resemblance to Mount Fuji. Mount Yotei stands out among Hokkaido’s natural beauty, and is truly a spectacular sight. It’s right in front of me. It’s incredibly beautiful. This is Mount Yotei, a 1,898-meter-high stratovolcano. Also known as Ezo Fuji, it’s the highest mountain in southwestern Hokkaido. It’s quite large, but it’s only about half the size of Mount Fuji. This really shows how massive Mount Fuji really is. This time of year might be the most beautiful. The surrounding area is covered in autumn foliage, and the mountain is lightly covered in snow, creating a beautiful landscape. Unfortunately, the summit is obscured by clouds. It’s not a very well-known spot, so there’s no one there. I’ve included a Google Maps link in the description for more details, so if you’re interested, check it out. Now, let’s head to our next destination. We ‘re almost there. This is it. We’ve arrived. This is the roadside station “Lake Toya.” We came here because there’s an observation deck. Apparently, there’s an observation deck overlooking Lake Toya about 150 meters away. The observation deck is right there. We’ve arrived. This is the observation deck at Lake Toya Roadside Station. It’s incredibly beautiful. It’s not exactly a panoramic view of Lake Toya, but you can see most of it. The observation deck looked like this. It was too cold to stay long, so we headed back to the parking lot. It was getting hazy and obscured, but you could still see Mt. Yotei from here. They had sea lion meat curry, bear meat curry, Hokkaido deer curry, and sea lion meat. The mushroom portions were amazing. It’s great that they sell rice in two-cup portions like this. Speaking of Hokkaido, there’s “Yumepirika.” The Chinese cabbage was huge! The cabbage was huge, too! Isn’t 200 yen a bargain? We stopped at a roadside station, and there were a lot of unusual things, which was interesting. I didn’t think I’d buy anything, though. They had sea lion meat curry, bear meat curry, and a lot of other unusual souvenirs. This is juice made with shiso grown in Toyako Town. They sold it with carbonated water, straight, and undiluted. This rice was harvested in Toyako Town. This is 2 cups of rice, but it’s great for buying as a sample. Also, some sweets made in Tomakomai. Now, I’m heading to my next destination. Apparently there’s a mysterious spot 16 minutes away, so I’d like to check it out. I’m driving along Lake Toya now. Huh? Even though I’ve arrived, where is my destination? It’s probably this way. This car won’t do. I’ll park over there and walk. My tire’s stuck. I’ll need a four-wheel drive. I’ve arrived close to my destination, but I can’t go any further, so I’ll park my car and walk from here. Even a four-wheel drive might not be possible . My destination is right there. This left side looks like private property. That’s why there’s a sign saying “No Trespassing.” Ah… looking back, the view was spectacular. I guess people are trespassing on private property to take photos of Lake Toya. That’s why it’s off-limits. I walked 200-300 meters, but I ended up in the mountains. There are traces of cars that have passed by, so I guess some types of vehicles can get through. The road opened up. Have we arrived? It’s so beautiful. By the way, I walked for about 10 minutes. This is Iwaya Kannon. Iwaya Kannon. There’s also a shrine deep inside the cave. Above the shrine is a sheer cliff. It looks like this. It’s amazing. I can hear strange animal sounds, but I think it’s a deer in mating season. Since it’s the “23rd Kannon,” does that mean it’s part of a sacred pilgrimage or something? There’s a shrine deep inside. It’s a very atmospheric place. There’s nothing enshrined inside the shrine, so perhaps the rock itself is the deity? It’s a very mystical place. Now, back to the car. I’m really looking forward to staying at the inn tonight, which apparently has a spectacular view of Lake Toya. Since Lake Toya is the setting for my trip this time, I still have some time, and it seems like I can take a boat tour of the lake, so if the ferry times work out, I’d like to do some sightseeing. For now, I’d like to head towards the pier. I’m back. There’s a hotel in the area, and it looks like it will have some amazing views. Let’s get started. It takes 21 minutes to get there. We’ll be there soon. The parking lot was full, so we parked in another one. It’s a 2-3 minute walk from here. I haven’t bought my ticket yet, and I only have 7 minutes left, so I’ll hurry a bit. The ferry is here. It’s an incredible ferry ride. It’s a castle-like ship. Lol. The round-trip fare is 1,600 yen for adults and 800 yen for children. There’s a museum on the island, and the museum admission is 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for children. If you land on the island, it takes 85 minutes. If you just tour the island without landing, it takes 50 minutes. It runs every 30 minutes from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. I just made it in time. They’re selling Genghis Khan T-shirts. I really want one . Look at this. What’s this? I bought some treats (for birds), so I’ll give them to them. They went somewhere. Lol . Oh, they’re here. Are they still babies? We ‘ll be setting sail soon. There’s nothing particularly interesting to see when we disembark at Nakajima, so this time we’re taking a 50-minute course around the island. There’s another place higher, so let’s go. You want this, right? Don’t argue. We’ve finally set sail. Even before we set sail, we’re feeding the seagulls. I’m giving them this 250-yen snack. Hey… hey… hey… It cost me 250 yen! Eat it… I was so engrossed in feeding the seagulls, but I think someone on board was probably explaining things about Lake Toya on the intercom. The boat has two floors, a deck on the third floor, and another deck above. There were seats and a shop on the third floor. They were also selling these snacks. The intercom system was explaining the sights and the island. My wife says there were a lot of foreigners on board, and they were all tall and handsome . I wonder what makes them different from me. We arrive at Oshima Pier, where you can also disembark. There’s a boat that picks us up at 20 and 50 minutes, but there’s not much to see if we get off, so we decide to just go around the lake. We just arrived… it’s amazing! The water is so clear you can see the bottom. That’s the museum. But maybe we should have gotten off. I told you, let’s get off… if we hadn’t gotten off, we’d just be on the boat. But the museum is really small… (making excuses) We’ll be there soon. Oh, it’s snowing. Wow! So many people! We got on a sightseeing boat. I should have gotten off on the island after all. Since we’re just going around the lake, I think it would have been better to get off on the island. But it was a lot of fun, like feeding the seagulls. We’re back at the parking lot. This area is a hot spring resort, lined with hotels and inns. There were lots of delicious looking delicacies, like kamameshi (rice cooked in a pot) and akagyudon (red beef bowl). Our lodgings are nearby. Now, let’s head towards the lodgings. It’s about a two-minute walk from here. This way. We’ve arrived. This is a hotel called “The Lake Suite Lake No Sumika.” There’s another large building over there, which is also managed by the same company, Toya Sun Palace Resort. Let’s check in. The place looks like this. It’s incredibly stylish. Lake Toya stretches out before you. If you go straight to the right, it connects to the other building we saw earlier. The room we’ll be staying in is on the second floor. The hallway looks like this. It’s room 204. This is it. Let’s take a look right away. The entrance looks like this. They’ve carried our luggage. Directly in front of the entrance is… and here is… the toilet. The toilet looks like this. Immediately to the left is our room. The room looks like this. It’s a very stylish room. Through the window… the view of Lake Toya stretches out before us. This is what it looks like from the other side. There’s a TV, two beds, and a sofa over here. Next to the beds… hot spring manju. There are hot spring manju here and a coffee mill, so I wonder if they have coffee beans. It’s The Lake Suite Ko no Sumika’s original blend coffee. They provide coffee filters and other items like this. They also have tea and Darjeeling black tea. Below this is… oh, a refrigerator. There’s water in the refrigerator. You can go outside. It’s a terrace like this. Fireworks are launched from here, so you can sit here and watch them. This is a very stylish sink. To the immediate right is the closet. Here is an original bag. Tabi socks are provided. This is a safe. This is… something to wear over a yukata, I think. It’s a jinbei . Below this is… the yukata. Under the sink… are towels; bath towels and towels are provided. This is a hair dryer . The sink looks like this, with all the amenities here. Next to the sink… is a very stylish sink. Here, as soon as you enter, there is a shower room. And beyond that is the open-air bath. There is underfloor heating at the foot of the shower room. It’s very warm. This is the open-air bath. The bath hasn’t been filled with water yet, but you can enjoy the view of Lake Toya while soaking like this. I plan to fill this bath with water when I’m ready. So, my room looks stylish like this. Right here is the open-air bath. I’m looking forward to spending the day relaxing here. Mount Yotei is directly in front of me, but unfortunately it’s obscured by the haze. I imagine the view would be even more spectacular if it were clearly visible. Here’s a map of the hotel. The Lake Sue and Lake No Sumika are in this building, and the building on the right is Sun Palace Resort. The entrance is on the third floor, and I’ll be staying on the second floor, one floor below. The first, second, and fourth through seventh floors are guest rooms. The eighth floor houses the large public bath, open-air bath, beauty salon, fitness gym, and vending machines. Towels are provided in the large public bath, so you don’t need to bring your own. The large public bath looks like this, and it looks like you can enjoy a bath surrounded by a spectacular view. There’s also a sauna. There’s a cold bath, a jacuzzi bath, and complimentary water. Bathing hours are until 1:00 a.m., and the sauna is open from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The spring water is a sodium-calcium chloride bicarbonate sulfate hot spring. Its pH is 6.72 and it has a variety of health benefits. This building looks like this, and the shop is located in this wing. You can access this building from the third floor via a connecting walkway. It’s locked on the way back, and you can’t get back into this building without a room key. On the first basement floor, there’s a large public bath, pool, aromatherapy salon, post-bath lounge, aji-dokoro (seafood restaurant), and a game corner. This hotel offers a stay for two adults, including breakfast and dinner, for under 20,000 yen. I’d like to check out the building next door. I’d also like to visit this building. The view is spectacular. It’s spacious. This is Sun Palace Resort. It seems to have a game corner and a souvenir corner here. This is incredibly spacious. This is the souvenir corner. The souvenir corner is also very spacious. It’s so spacious , it’s like a supermarket, with a wide variety of items for sale. We’ve come up one level. This is the dining area. You’ll need a card key to return to Lake No Su. It’s getting dark. This is the training room. This is the men’s bath, and this is the women’s. Now, let’s fill the bath. I came out. I’ll wait until the water fills. It’s cold! I pressed the hot water button. There was a hot spring button above. The sun was setting nicely. This is the building called the “Water Terrace.” Is it a course meal rather than a buffet? The water isn’t completely filled, but I can’t wait, so I’ll go in. It’s amazing. Bathing in a hot spring while looking out at Lake Toya is incredibly luxurious. It’s cold outside, but the hot spring water is about 42 degrees, so it feels really nice. The water is a little cloudy. It’s hard to tell because it’s dark. I think it’s cloudy. + The fireworks here are apparently launched while traveling by boat. At around 8:55 PM, the boat will stop in front of the hotel and the final fireworks will be launched. I ‘m really looking forward to the finale in front of the hotel. Guests staying in this building will dine on the second floor. It’s a restaurant on the second floor called Shinrin Dining. For those staying in this building, the dining area is likely “Restaurant Ratio Grande” on the first floor. It’s dinner time, so I head to the dining area. In addition to the buffet, there was other food. Paella, gratin, and fried chicken. There’s a variety. Shrimp chili. Crab. Probably red snow crab . Dinner is a buffet, but this was also included as a special menu. It’s not really special, it’s just the regular plan. Matsutake mushroom and conger eel soup. This is sashimi. I had to try this, so I just picked a few. There was a huge variety, and they all looked delicious. I picked my favorites, and it looked like this. Salmon, tuna, and scallop sashimi, jumbo fried shrimp, crab, steak, and grilled scallops. It was real tuna. It was incredibly delicious. I wanted the buffet, but since this was a set meal, there was no choice. So, I’ll have the buffet. Drinks are all-you-can-drink. I’ll have the scallops. Wow… so delicious… So good. I’ll have the steak too. The sauce is good. The meat is good too. The fried shrimp is so filling. Surprisingly, I can’t finish it all, I’m getting full. This is crab. It’s so meaty. Oh, but the crab flavor is weak. Scallops are usually cut in half, but this one is whole. About 2cm thick. This is definitely delicious. Oh, so delicious! Sweet! They also have gratin and paella. This is my second round. Paella, scallops, gratin, apple pie, pizza, and whelk. I wanted something sweet, so I brought some fruit. I forgot my toothpick, but it was easy to remove. Delicious. The whelk is delicious. This is my third round. There were about six kinds of ice cream, and only the matcha and vanilla were Häagen-Dazs, and the rest were not well-known ice creams. It was delicious, so I ordered paella again. I’ll have curry rice and something sweet. I was so greedy that my stomach is full to bursting. Thank you for the meal. My stomach feels like it’s going to burst. I feel like I want to lie down here. I’ve had dinner. There were so many different types of food, and everything was delicious. My stomach’s settled, so I’d like to take a bath in my room today. It’s pitch black outside. I think the fireworks will start soon, so I’ll wait. What are they doing with such short legs? Is this a boat? I wonder where the fireworks will start. The fireworks have started. They’re still far away, so I can’t see them at all. They ‘re quite far away. They’re gradually coming closer. It’s so beautiful. It’s such a luxury to be able to watch fireworks while sitting on the terrace like this. It was so beautiful. I think it’s probably over now. The boat is heading back, so I think that’s the end. I’m going to sleep in tonight. Good morning. I couldn’t see Mt. Yotei yesterday, but I can see it clearly today. The morning sun is shining, turning it bright red. Now I’d like to take a morning bath. Before I knew it, Mt. Yotei was out of sight. It’s 7:30, so I’m heading to the dining area. I’ve had breakfast. There’s a wide variety. I picked out what I liked, but it ended up being a bit confusing. Rather than salmon roe, I guess it’s called trout roe because the pieces are so small. I made it like oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl). I also had them make rice balls. And then, peperoncino. This is “soft katsugen,” which I’d been meaning to try when I came to Hokkaido, but forgot about it. Oh, it’s delicious. This is a luxury. The second one looks like this. I made another seafood bowl. This time, I added various ingredients, including crab miso. Eating crab miso in the morning makes me feel like winter is here. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. I had breakfast. It was really good. I’ve been eating seafood bowls all day. This time, I stayed at The Lake Suite Ko no Sumika. What did you think? All rooms at this hotel have open-air baths. Breakfast and dinner are buffet-style, with a huge variety of dishes, and everything I tried was delicious. As for the price, it was 67,760 yen for a one-night stay and two-day stay for two adults, including breakfast and dinner. It’s roughly less than 34,000 yen per person. The price varies greatly depending on the day of the week, with the cheapest being around 53,000 yen. So you can stay for around 26,500 yen per person. When you enter, you’ll be greeted by an incredible space, and you’ll feel like a celebrity. It’s almost time to check out, so this marks the end of our Hokkaido trip. How was your trip to Hokkaido? Where should we go next? See you in the next video! Thank you for watching until the end.

I don't even know when I'll have the opportunity to set foot on Japanese lands, but your channel is ideal for planning visits to beautiful places in that country other than Tokyo!
