川尻町の小貝浜北方の松林のなかに、直径５０ｍ、深さ３０ｍほどの、巨大な穴（海水による浸食洞）があります。この穴が、平安時代後期の武将・八幡太郎義家にまつわる伝説を生んだところで、「八幡太郎の馬の足跡」と呼ばれているものです。
日立市内には、この「馬の足跡」の伝説以外にも、八幡太郎義家にまつわる伝説がたくさん伝えられています。
In the pine forest north of Kogaihama in Kawajiri Town, there is a huge hole (a cave eroded by seawater) 50m in diameter and 30m deep. This hole is called “Hachimantaro’s Horse Footprints” because it is where the legend about Hachimantaro Yoshie, a military commander in the late Heian period (794-1185), originated.
In addition to the legend of the “horse’s footprints,” there are many other legends related to Hachimantaro Yoshiie in Hitachi City.
