KYOTO – Arashiyama -Hello. This time, I’m in Arashiyama, Kyoto. The trees are changing color, and autumn is a beautiful season as it deepens. 🍂 While viewing the autumn leaves, I visited some wonderful shops. I hope you’ll join me on this autumn stroll through Kyoto. First, I visited a cafe just down the street from Arashiyama Station. It’s a lovely shop renovated from a traditional Japanese house. I was shown to a sofa seat by the window overlooking the garden. I ordered a set of rice dumplings, which you can grill yourself on a charcoal grill. I was delighted to find two varieties: mugwort and white. ☺ It was a relaxing time savoring the rice dumplings while gazing at the beautiful garden. I wonder if they’re almost done? I drank mitarashi sauce with the white rice dumplings…and red bean paste with the mugwort rice dumplings! It was delicious, thank you for the meal. Now, let’s walk a little upstream along the Katsura River. We arrived at the art gallery “Yusaitei.” In a charming setting, you can enjoy the dyeing art of dyeing artist Yusai Okuda. A luxurious space to enjoy the view of Arashiyama. It was a breathtakingly beautiful experience. Perhaps because it was the beginning of the season, there were still few people around, allowing for a leisurely viewing. It was a wonderful time, feeling the autumn breeze. Since we were in Arashiyama, we decided to visit this popular shop. Perhaps because we arrived early after opening, we were able to enter right away. The aroma of freshly baked bread was amazing. Apparently, they always have about 30 varieties on display. The bread made with Manganji peppers is unique to Kyoto. Tomorrow’s bread is here! Now, it’s time to resume our stroll through Arashiyama. It ‘s almost the peak season. It’s time to enjoy the short autumn. 🍁 We visited the gardens of Tenryuji Temple. It is registered as a World Heritage Site as one of the “Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto.” The Sogenchi Garden was beginning to change color beautifully. It really stood out against the clear autumn sky. Arashiyama is known for its beautiful bamboo forest. Leaving the north gate of Tenryuji Temple, we found ourselves at the “Bamboo Forest Path.” Let’s head through the bamboo forest path to the Sagano area. Relaxing with the roadside flowers… An autumn stroll is so enjoyable☺ Next, we headed to the Yi Dynasty Ceramics Gallery. It’s only open in autumn and spring. First, we had a light meal at the attached cafe. We enjoyed a delicious moment while looking out at the Rakushisha. After our meal, we took a look around the exhibits… On that day, there was a special exhibition of British female ceramic artist Lucie Rie. Yi Dynasty’s garden was ranked 12th in the “2024 Japanese Garden Rankings” by an American magazine specializing in Japanese gardens. The garden itself is magnificent, and it’s worth a visit just for that. It was a feast for the eyes♡ If you have the opportunity, please visit. The autumn atmosphere permeates the air at Rakukashisha, a shop associated with Matsuo Basho. Next, we head to a Shigaraki ware specialty shop near Nison-in Temple. Entering the quaint building, we find a wide selection of Shigaraki ware pieces on display. The slightly plump, warm atmosphere is lovely. Now, let’s take a break for a coffee. We visit a hidden cafe tucked away in a quiet residential area. It has a charming, Scandinavian-inspired atmosphere. The roasted green tea set we ordered is from Kyoto Ippodo. The view from the large windows is beautiful, making it a relaxing cafe. Now, let’s head back toward Arashiyama. Returning to Bread and Espresso, we noticed that it looked like we could get in, so we decided to stop by and try the other cafes. I imagined there’d be a long line, but perhaps because it was a weekday evening, it was empty. Luckily, the fruit sandwich was made with Shine Muscat grapes. The bread was also delicious. My husband rewarded himself with a local beer 🍺 as a reward for his good walk. We enjoyed a walk in Arashiyama, enjoying the deepening autumn 🍂 This year’s autumn will surely be short. I want to enjoy this season that passes so quickly, and not miss it ☺ Thank you for watching! Hope to see you soon, have a nice day 🍂
