Topics: Amakusa Shiro and the Islands of Hidden Christians. This island was the site of the Christian uprising led by Amakusa Shiro, and the history of the Hidden Christians is deeply engraved in these islands. Topics: A journey through the stunning scenery of Kami-Amakusa, the historic Shimo-Amakusa, and the secluded Ushibuka. The Amakusa Peninsula is simply vast! This tour will be divided into three areas. Kami-Amakusa in Thai Land: First, enjoy a scenic drive, starting with the Amakusa Five Bridges, the gateway to Amakusa . A popular spot for wild dolphin watching. Shimo-Amakusa in Thai Land: A romantic, historic area home to the World Heritage Site, Sakitsu Church. More natural and tranquil than Kami-Amakusa, with island-like scenery. Ushibuka in Thai Land: Recommended for those with time! This southernmost area is brimming with a secluded feel. The Largest Amakusa Shiro Statue in JapanIt ‘s huge even when viewed from below, but the impact seen from directly below is quite impressive. It’s huge!! lolDo you remember Amakusa Shiro? You’ve probably heard of this man before. He’s an essential figure in any discussion of Amakusa history: Amakusa Shiro. Amakusa Shiro served as the commander-in-chief of the Christian rebellion during the Shimabara-Amakusa Rebellion, one of the largest uprisings in Japanese history. He was only 16 years old at the time. His charisma led many people, making this legendary young man. If you want to learn more about the history of Christianity, or about Amakusa Shiro , be sure to stop by the Amakusa Shiro Museum. Learning about Amakusa Shiro will make your travels even more dramatic. With a panorama of islands stretching out to both sides , the drive here is exhilarating! However, Amakusa’s roads are narrow in places, so caution is advised . I’ve heard that Kuratake Shrine, home to the “Sky Torii” (Gate to the Sky), which I plan to visit tomorrow, has extremely narrow and steep roads. It’s popular, so it’s packed with people and difficult to pass other vehicles. I’ll also introduce recommended routes and times to visit! Let’s enjoy the trip together♪ A must-see spot on your trip! This is a spot where you can see the beautiful archipelago of the Amakusa Islands. While some areas of Amakusa are crowded, this is a special place where there is no one around. Takabutoyama Observatory is just a 3-minute walk from the parking lot to the observation deck, the best viewpoint. It ‘s like a giant “picture frame” created by nature. The blue sky, blue sea, and green islands are breathtakingly beautiful, like a painting . A 360-degree panoramic view with nothing obstructing the view. This spectacular view is only a small part of the charm of Amakusa. Head along National Route 324, also known as the “Ariake Octopus Highway.” The Santa Maria building stands out against the sky. After searching for a while, the moment finally arrived! And there they were! So cute! 😍✨ Dolphins swim freely in the blue waters of Amakusa. Their graceful jumps, cutting through the waves and dancing in the air, seemed to welcome us. It’s amazing to see them right in the middle of the ocean! We were all fighting for position on the boat to get a closer look at the dolphins. 🤣 As we were watching, a dolphin approached. Jusanbutsu Park is another famous sunset spot. The water is very clear, which explains why diving is popular. From here you can see Shiratsuruhama Beach. This tranquil scenery relaxed my mind. The history of Christianity is an essential part of talking about Amakusa . This is the first church to be rebuilt in Amakusa after the ban on Christianity was lifted. Oe Church is a beautiful Romanesque-style church built on a hill. A pure white church that stands out against the blue sky. In this solemn and silent space, it feels as if the prayers of those who survived the era of oppression still live on . Stepping outside from the sacred white church, a magnificent view of nature unfolds before your eyes . Oe Church is also known as the “Cathedral of the Mountains.” In contrast to the chalk white image outside, the inside is decorated with pastel-colored stained glass. The quiet space for prayer will cleanse your soul. Traditional rice cakes made with sweet potatoes, a tradition passed down in Amakusa since ancient times. Delicious with a nostalgic taste! Next, we head to the World Heritage Church. This is a place where the history of the Hidden Christians is deeply engraved. Standing in the distance is the statue of Mary floating on the sea. This area is a thriving fishing area, and it is said that the statue watches over the safety of Zoom voyages. While Oe Church is known as the Church of the Mountains, Sakitsu Church is also known as the Church of the Sea. You can see why it’s a World Heritage Site here. Letterbox SAKITSU CHURCHIn Thai LandA quiet and solemn church nestled in the scenery of a fishing village. Its simple gray Gothic exterior blends in with the scenery of this fishing village. The interior, with its simple and calm tatami flooring, is also unique in the world. Unfortunately, photography is prohibited inside, so please come and see it for yourself. Walking through the alleys, you’ll feel like you’ve traveled back in time. It’s a nostalgic sight that will remind you of the important things you’ve forgotten as an adult. This place isn’t just a shrine; it also served as another place of prayer. During the period when Christianity was prohibited, in order to hide their Christianity, they publicly worshipped both gods and Buddhas and coexisted. The church seen from here is also beautiful. The uniqueness of this integration of faith and life, which was kept secret within the fishing industry, has led to the entire fishing village, including the church, becoming a World Heritage Site. Be sure to buy some precious sweets that can only be purchased here at the end of your sightseeing.
