鳥取道のすぐそばにこんな癒やしスポットが!? 岡山・あわくらんど【S660ドライブ】
I’m now driving west on the Chugoku Expressway. I’ve just passed the Takino Yashiro Interchange. And I’m continuing further west. Today, I’m heading to some roadside stations I’ve never visited before. Today’s trip includes one roadside station in Okayama Prefecture, and two roadside stations in Tottori Prefecture. It looks like it’s going to be a full day of Michi-no-Eki touring. I originally planned to head for Tottori without using the expressway, but I decided it would take too long if I didn’t. And since I woke up a bit late today, I chose to take the expressway route instead. So right now, I’m driving on the Chugoku Expressway. I’ll keep following this expressway for a while, and then it connects to the Tottori Expressway ahead. There are two roadside stations located along the Tottori Expressway, and one of them is in Okayama Prefecture. Further along the Tottori Expressway, there are roadside stations in Tottori Prefecture. The first roadside station is probably close to the Hyogo Prefecture side. Since the starting point is quite far from Osaka, I took the expressway from Osaka, and to the first roadside station, it takes about two and a half to three hours. Well, it can’t be helped. After exiting the Tottori Expressway, the first roadside station is located right nearby. So the first stop will be right off the expressway. It’s always more fun to drive on local roads rather than expressways, but sometimes it can’t be helped. When I drive on expressways, there’s something I often think about. The S660 doesn’t have the latest features like Honda Sensing that newer cars come with. It doesn’t have adaptive cruise control either. The S660 has two grades: α (Alpha) and β (Beta). The one I drive is the Modulo X version. Modulo X is based on the Alpha model. So, just like the Alpha, it comes with cruise control. Even though it’s not adaptive, cruise control helps me maintain a steady speed and gives my foot a bit of rest when the road is clear. On open stretches, it’s quite helpful to use cruise control. I’ve been using expressways more often recently, so even having non-adaptive cruise control really helps. Maintaining a constant speed manually can be tiring. When I get tired, my speed tends to fluctuate. So it’s nice to let the car maintain a steady pace for me. At Sayo Junction, I’ll turn onto the Tottori Expressway. Right now, I’m driving through an area called Sayo in Hyogo Prefecture. The Tottori Expressway from Sayo to Tottori is actually toll-free. It’s really nice that you can drive it for free. Since I’m heading to Tottori Prefecture, it’s nice that the travel costs can be kept low. Along the Tottori Expressway, there’s an interchange called Nishi-Awakura. And right there is a roadside station called Awakurando. I actually found it by chance. So first, I’ll visit Awakurando — that’s the roadside station in Okayama Prefecture. After that, I’ll continue toward the roadside stations in Tottori Prefecture. As I head farther toward Tottori, the roadside stations in Tottori are located along Route 9 and the San’in Expressway. Tottori Prefecture stretches a long way east to west, so it’s hard to visit them all at once, but they seem fairly easy to tour. I hope I can visit all the roadside stations in Tottori sometime soon. After passing through a tunnel, I’ve entered Mimasaka City in Okayama Prefecture. There’s an exit here called Ohara, and if you go one more interchange ahead, you’ll reach the Nishi-Awakura Interchange. That’s where I’ll get off the expressway. I’ll exit at Nishi-Awakura Interchange. It’s about 8 kilometers to the roadside station from there. It’s mid-October today. Last week, I went to Yonago for some errands. I’m actually taking the same route I used then. On that trip, I discovered several roadside stations along the way. On the way to Yonago, there were quite a few roadside stations. Including Awakurando, there were about six of them, I think. Along the Tottori Expressway, there’s Awakurando and another roadside station called Kawahara. The roadside station Awakurando is located right after exiting at the Nishi-Awakura Interchange. So I’ll exit the Tottori Expressway at the Nishi-Awakura Interchange. I’ll turn left at this intersection. Here’s what I bought at Roadside Station Awakurando — a ripe strawberry milk pudding. It’s made with ripe strawberries grown in Nishi-Awakura Village. I wanted to buy something made locally in this village. So I decided on this pudding. I couldn’t find any unique original products there. But after searching around, I found about three locally made items from Nishi-Awakura Village. There was a bath additive, and a yuzu miso made in Nishi-Awakura. I wanted to buy the yuzu miso, but it was sold out when I visited. So this time, I bought the pudding instead. This strawberry milk pudding can be stored at room temperature. I’m planning to eat it when I get home. Up next is a clip filmed at home. I’ll show you the ripe strawberry milk pudding I bought at Awakurando. When you open the box, it looks like this inside. It even comes with a spoon, so you can eat it right away after buying it. The packaging is really cute. Let’s try the pudding. It’s made with strawberries from Nishi-Awakura. Here’s what it looks like inside. Let’s eat. I thought it would be a very sweet pudding, but it actually has a nice tartness and aroma of strawberries. It’s delicious. This pudding is made with strawberries from Nishi-Awakura and Jersey milk produced in Okayama Prefecture. A perfect product that represents the village. It really captures the charm of Nishi-Awakura Village. If you ever visit this roadside station, give it a try. Now, let’s head to the next roadside station. Next, we’re going to Tottori Prefecture.
