Japan Trip: Hot Springs and Waterfall in Tenninkyo, Hokkaido15 Ｍｏｏｐｏｎ
Tenninkyo (天人峡) is located southwest of Asahidake, the highest mountain in the Taisetsuzan Mountains within the Daisetsuzan National Park in Hokkaido. Tucked between the cliffs, visitors will find this sulfur-rich Tenninkyo Hot Springs running wildly through the streams of the mountains. There are a few ryokan (hot spring inn) in the area where visitors can relax and let this region’s water heal their sore muscles.
Visitors may wish to visit Hagoromo Falls which is also in this area. This 270 meter high waterfall is the tallest waterfall in Hokkaido. There is a trail from the end of the village which can take visitors to the waterfall in less than 10 minutes by foot. Also on the trail is Shikishima Falls.
Note: The trail to Shikishima Falls may be closed for multiple reasons (damage from landslide, bear activity, etc.)

*Biei: about one hour
Via Bus:
*Public Bus service has been discontinued as of July 2011
*Tenninkyo Onsen’s leading ryokan, the Tenninkaku provides free bus service for its guest to and from Asahikawa Station. Advance reservation is required.
