Kumiyama, Another Town You Should Visit in Kyoto
[Music] Hi, I’m Satal and I am at Kyoto station and today I’m going to Kumyama a place that most of you have probably never heard of, but there’s so many places worth visiting. And since this is my first video, let me start by a few words. I’m Japanese and living here, Kyoto City. And I’m going to make videos about Japanese cultures and beautiful places to share them with you people all over the world. So, I hope you enjoy my video. And to get to the Kumyama town, you need to take a train and change to the bus. So, let’s go to the station. [Music] Arrived at Kintu Kyoto station. It’s within a Kyoto station building. So, let’s take a train. [Music] [Music] [Music] And now I arrived at Okumo station and I’m heading to the bus stop to go to the Kuma. the town. [Music] [Applause] [Music] And this is my first time to visit this station. And there’s supermarkets and noodle shops, noodle restaurant. And there’s a pachinko and slo. This is um gambling shop. So it’s like a mediumsiz city station look like. And number two is bus stop for Kyama town. It runs about every 20 minutes. So let’s go. [Music] I don’t usually take the bus, but I absolutely love the feeling what I get when I occasionally ride a local bus. Finally, I arrived in Kumyama town. It took about an hour from Kyoto station. It’s not close, but it’s not far either. And the first place I want to visit in this town is Eom Mall Kumyama. It is most popular shopping mall chain in Japan. Let’s go inside and see what it has. [Music] And this is inside a shopping mall, grocery stores, clothing, electronics, restaurants. It has everything you need. [Music] And this is what I love most about this shopping mall, the game center. When I was a kid, I used to visit with with my family and play games. I love those moments. Start and press the button to stop at the red sign to get snacks. Ah, no. I found a Pikachu and I have this Pikachu tank. So, let’s get Pikachu here. [Music] Uh, no. [Music] So, I’m going to take lunch and move on to the next spot. I bought a takoyaki. Taki is kind of street snack in Japan. It’s made by combining ingredients such as eggs, flour, green onions, and small pieces of octopus inside. I love it. So, we got aimas. So, I’m leaving the shopping mall. Let’s go outside and visit the next spot. And it’s already autumn in Japan now in October, but the temperatures 30 degrees stay and it’s so hot. And I’m walking to the following location. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the shopping mall. Now I’m close to that. I arrived at the next spot. And what is the next spot? You know what? This is toyama junk. Look at this. [Music] Oh my gosh. I love it. Perfect. This is OGO. It is a pedestrian overpass and the p pedestrian overpass and the road are intricately interlined. That is huge. Kumyama town is a convenient midsize city with a shopping mall, but its most distinctive feature is this junction. I love it. [Music] When I visit here, I’m moving. And then next place I want to visit is right down this pedestrian bridge. So let’s go. [Music] [Music] I’m getting close to the third destination I wanted to see and which is is rice fields. I absolutely love the side of rice patties stretching out as far as I can see. And here you can enjoy the contrasting scenery of rural landscapes and massive man-made structure that is captivating. You can also enjoy the scene surrounded by mountains in Kyoto. That is beautiful. I believe the charm of this town lies in the fusion of pastoral scenery and massive man-made structures. Now leaving the countryside behind, we head toward our final destination. I love walking along the river. I can hear birds singing and smell the scent of the fields. It’s very calming. This river is lined with cherry blossoms that bloom magnificently in spring. Here the three characters in the middle are the name of this place. The first character higashi means east and the second and the third characters are usually read as huchi meaning one bite as in take a bite. However, in this place name hitouchi is read as emo alai here in just a sound it means washing potatoes but of course it doesn’t mean washing potatoes. Uh emo here represents emi meaning evil in English which sounds similar to emo. Thus it carries the positive meaning of washing away evil. This name of the place tells how Japanese language is complex. This area of Kumyama town was once a vast pond called Augura pond. The location of the rice field we visited earlier was also part of the pond. And this old machinery was used to control water level protecting people from the floods brought by the pond. Now I arrived at our final destination which is Uji Gawa Wuji River. One of Kyoto’s defining features how rivers close to our daily lives. [Music] The large building on the opposite side is Kyoto Racecourse. Horse racing gamble is very popular in Japan. [Music] There are so many grasshoppers on this road. Oh, there’s another one. I found another grasshopper. Wow. Here it is. Sadly, the river is farther away than I expected. I can’t see close enough, but there are many other places you can enjoy river in Kyoto. So, I’m going to make another video to show you those places. So, this is end of my first video. There are many other places I couldn’t introduce you in Kubyama town in this video. So I hope you visit here someday and find them. So thank you for watching. If you liked my video, please subscribe and I’ll make another video soon. Thank you.
I visited Kumiyama Town, located south of Kyoto City in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. I’d be delighted if this helps you discover that Kyoto has charming places beyond its historic shrines and temples.
My English and video editing skills are still rudimentary, but I’ll keep improving.
