I’m taking the Super Hakuto express train to Tottori Station. It was an unexpectedly comfortable ride, and I arrived at Tottori Station. It’s so cool! A monument greeted me at the rotary in front of the station. I’m staying at Hotel Monarch Tottori tonight. It’s a fantastic hotel, not only close to the station but also boasting its own hot spring. It’s a very luxurious design. I was shown to a beautiful Japanese-Western room. I came to the shopping arcade looking for dinner. I decided on Super Izakaya Tottori Daizen. They use many Tottori ingredients. Everything was delicious. Thank you for the meal. I’m back at the hotel. I’ll take a relaxing soak in the hot springs and rest up in preparation for tomorrow’s sightseeing in Tottori. Good night. Good morning. I got a good night’s rest. Now, it’s time to depart for sightseeing in Tottori. Since I booked a room-only plan, I’ll look for breakfast. I was surprised to see a line even before the opening. I came to Sunaba Coffee. It’s the famous Sunaba Coffee, known for the saying, “There’s no Starbucks, but there’s Sunaba.” It was delicious. Now, there are Starbucks in Tottori Prefecture, too. Now, let’s head to our first destination. We arrived at Kamogaiso Observatory. It’s accessible by bus and foot from Tottori Station. You can get a panoramic view of Uradome Coast. The horizon is beautiful. The complex topography carved by the waves really gives you a sense of the power of nature. We arrived at the Tottori Sand Dunes. We took the lift to the dunes. For some reason, lifts are exciting. There were camels. The last time I visited Tottori Sand Dunes, the weather was stormy. I’m glad it’s sunny today. I don’t have the courage to climb that steep slope, so I’ll start from the gentler side. The weather is calm, but the waves are high. It really feels like the Sea of ​​Japan. We’ll take the lift back. We head to our next destination: the Sand Museum. Tottori, the hometown of manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, is known as a land of monsters. The Sand Museum has a different theme each year. For the first time, 2025 will be Japan. It’s sad to think about tearing down this masterpiece and creating a new one each year. It’s lunchtime. I decided on Ginrin-tei, located on the second floor of the Shirousagi Roadside Station, Myth Village. I was shown to a table with an ocean view. The San’in region is home to many places deeply connected to Japanese mythology. Apparently, this place also has a strong connection. The seafood bowl was delicious. I visited Shirousagi Shrine, located right next to the roadside station. The rabbit here is also a god that appears in mythology and is apparently closely related to the white rabbit at Izumo Taisha Shrine. Rabbits. Rabbits. There are sand sculptures here, too. There are lots of rabbits. The shimenawa ropes are cool. The view on the way back, with the ocean, is spectacular. I arrived in Kurayoshi. The Super Hakuto train I took yesterday ended here, at Kurayoshi. Kurayoshi retains its traditional townscape. It seems that the Kurayoshi White-Walled Storehouses also preserve buildings from the Edo period. The water is very clear and the sound is soothing. It has a charming atmosphere and is fun just to walk along. Even the roads with little traffic have a certain atmosphere. The willow trees are beautiful. We were blessed with good weather and had a trip to Tottori where we thoroughly enjoyed the hot springs, the sea, and the sand dunes. Tottori is a wonderful place.
