The day before, Kamikochi saw its first snowfall, signaling the peak of autumn foliage. I was told I’d be able to see the three-tiered autumn foliage, consisting of snow and snow. Hoping for a glimpse, I took the first shuttle bus. The route was Taisho Pond, Kappa Bridge, Myojin Pond, and Kappa Bridge. The estimated distance was approximately 11km and took about 8 hours. After a 30-minute ride, I arrived at Taisho Pond. The area was already bustling with fellow passengers. The three-tiered autumn foliage of Mt. Yakedake, with its snow-capped peak, red leaves, and deep green, was beautiful. I came here at the end of October last year, but there was no snow. This time, I was able to see it. Taisho Pond shone emerald green. Hotaka is pure white. It seems there are many foreign visitors. I noticed there were no ducks today, and then they showed up. I headed for Kappa Bridge, 4km away. I came across an open area. The Kasumizawa-dake push-out. Mt. Yakedake is still an active volcano. It’s a bit disappointing that the number of standing dead trees is decreasing year by year. It’s only natural, considering it’s been 110 years since the 1915 eruption. The larch trees are beautifully colored. I’m also looking forward to seeing the Omagari larch tree-lined path just before the Kamikochi bus stop. The Tashiro Marsh is coming into view. The Tashiro Marsh. The sedges are turning brown. Tashiro Pond is coming into view. The Tashiro Pond. The mountains in front are Mt. Rokuhyaku and Mt. Kasumizawa. The river flows with underground water from the mountains. The pond, which was 5 meters deep in 1915, is gradually becoming a marsh . My next destination is the Omagari larch tree-lined path just before Kappa Bridge. The Azusa River course is still closed to traffic. Construction work will continue from 2024 to prevent footpath erosion. It’s a shame we can’t access the clear stream; I hope it will be restored soon. The grasslands are covered with the same sedges as the Tashiro Marsh. Crowds of people will tell you where the beautiful places are. The Tashiro Bridge is coming into view. There’s a place to descend to the Azusa River. The Azusa River is crystal clear. The Tashiro Bridge and the autumn leaves make a picturesque combination. The Tashiro Bridge. No matter where you look, Hotaka and the Azusa River are picturesque. The blue glow of the Azusa River and the autumn leaves are beautiful. And finally, the famous Omagari larch-lined avenue is spectacular. Last year, we arrived a little early, so the colors weren’t quite as vibrant. Today, they’re shining golden. Please enjoy the video uncut for a while. The Azusa River, Mt. Rokuhyaku, and the larch trees create a spectacular autumn scene. In some places, you can go down to the riverbed. I was so mesmerized by the larch trees that I couldn’t quite make it to Kappa Bridge . Kappa Bridge is right in front of me. I can now clearly see it. I stop by the Kamikochi bus stop. A fan is sweeping away the fallen larch leaves. The walkway is like a carpet of fallen larch leaves. I’ve come close to Kappa Bridge. The area around Kappa Bridge is also turning golden yellow. It was worth coming a little later than last year. 10:00 The temperature is 3°C. I take a short break. Apple pie from TROIS CINQ, a popular restaurant in Kamikochi. This is my second time back since my spring visit. Most of the customers are foreign tourists. I take a break inside the shop, looking out at the view. The hot coffee warms me up. Only ripe Fuji apples from Shinshu are used. The cup is filled with chunks of firm apples. After a short rest, I set off for Myojin. Myojin Pond is about 3.5 km away, about 300 m from Kappa Bridge. Here, too, I can enjoy a spectacular view of Hotaka. There are so many great views that it’s difficult to move forward. I continue on for a while, admiring the Hotaka peaks. Hotaka peaks appear and disappear among the conifers. Dakezawa Marsh comes into view on the right. A wooden observation deck stands above the marsh. This is a great photo spot. Mount Rokuhyaku (2,450 m above sea level) and the dead trees can be seen directly ahead. The clear spring water creates a truly picturesque landscape. Mount Myojin is on the left. There are more dead trees remaining than at Taisho Pond. 2.8km to Myojin Pond. It seems to be a brown trout, not a trout. 2km to Myojin Pond. Yellow-colored maples. 1.1km to go. The road was closed. I was able to see a view I’d never seen before. Mt. Myojin looms before my eyes. Myojin Pond is just around the corner. 100m to go. 11:30 AM. Okumiya of Hotaka Shrine. Mt. Myojin is enveloped in autumn leaves. There’s already a line at Kamonji Hut. Myojin Pond. Mt. Myojin 2,931m. Myojin Bridge is right in front of me. Myojin Bridge. Both Ryunosuke Akutagawa and Kotaro Takamura are said to have been deeply moved by the sight of Mt. Myojin looming before their eyes. Myojinkan, the Asayo no Yado (Hotaka Glow Inn), closed for the season on November 2nd. The official pilgrimage route to Okumiya of Hotaka Shrine starts here at Myojin. We head to the bus stop 3km away via Kappa Bridge. We continue on with Mt. Myojin on our right. The remains of a landslide. You can really feel the power and might of nature. Here too, the larch trees are colored. Konashizawa Campground, Okukonashi Bridge. The larch trees we’ve been seeing for a while now have come back into view. The larch trees in Konashizawa are also spectacular. The entire road is dyed a bright larch color. We head to the Azusa River to see the spectacular view of Hotaka. The banks are dyed orange with fallen larch leaves. The campground is also completely covered in larch. This is my favorite view point in Konashizawa. The balance between Hotaka and the Azusa River is exquisite. Looking back, we can see Mt. Yakedake . We head towards Kappa Bridge with Mt. Yakedake in view. Kappa Bridge comes into view. We have a late lunch. Kamikochi Hotel Shirakabaso. The hotel’s concept is world-class views and the finest hospitality. We enjoy a leisurely meal while looking at Hotaka. The view from here is amazing. We spend a luxurious time. Shinshu Kuroge Wagyu beef curry. Slowly cooked Shinshu Kuroge Wagyu beef. Large chunks of beef are included. It was an exquisite curry, full of flavor. If it’s warm, I’d like to enjoy it on the terrace. Homemade Bolognese made with Shinshu ground beef. A popular dish simmered slowly. We had a blissful time.
