Kushiro is the only big city on the Pacific side of Hokkaido. It’s a unique city, looks and feels different than others in Japan. As we walk from Kushiro Station to the Ocean, what do you think?

Nice they gave u the upgrade John and the best way to see is to walk!!! 🏃🏼♂️100%
Enjoy the 🍜 near your hotel looks cool!!!!
P.s like the thin Led street lights!!!! More reliable low power!!! 👍🏻
Thanks.
Very sad looking Siberia like city😯
Great walking tour, John! Loved our stay in Kushiro in ‘19. You have to get to the fish market and try the katte don. There’s some great Izakaya’s there and a Michelin awarded tempura restaurant that’s been in business over 100 years.
12:42 Thin traffic lights make a lot of sense since less snow would accumulate on them during winter seasons.
Thank you for the look at Kushiro, it's nice to get a gander at a more rustic place.
Thanks again John for doing this! Awesome!
Weird Soviet vibes.
The local restaurants would be awesome. And… "The orange jacket is back!" Cheers.
Love this city. It looks and has a similar feel to my hometown here in Atlantic Canada. This would be a great destination. Really loving these Hokkaido videos! Keep it up!
Hi John, I'm sorry I keep missing so many of your livestreams! My day job's been a bear, and my volunteer work's also been crazy busy (now that Japan's opening up, the Denver Takayama Sister City Committee is starting to plan trips to Japan, though I won't be going until next spring, probably!). I'm enjoying your Kushiro stream and I may be able to stay up for your Nemuro trip. BTW, need to tell you that those aren't geese everywhere in Kushiro — they're cranes, as in "tsuru." Kushiro and those marshes north of the city are famous for them. Thanks, as always, for your dedication to keeping the rest of the world connected to Japan! BTW, I listed you as a food resource in my book coming out this fall, "Tabemasho! Let's Eat!"…
Hey guys, I've signed for the military, and soon will join the army; I've been looking forward to find a self-study japanese book, can anyone please recommend me some books?
So is this what you do all the time, like a full-time job? What a dream. How does this support your family?
Commerce has taken a big hit from lack of tourism due to Covid.
What is the best Chinese town in Japan
Seal? Haha, from California Sea Otter country this is so funny. My wife can't explain how they got the Japanese name Rakko ラッコ.
Kushiro is an interesting city, I especially like the retro street lamps and the nature scenes they put on the back of the road signs. And,as always, it’s good to see the orange jacket back in action.
John, I notice that the detailed map of Kushiro is "upside down" in that North is at the bottom of the map and South is at the top. This seems to be common in Japan, and quite unlike the detailed maps I have seen in North and Central Americas, Europe, and Central Asia when I have visited there. Do you have any idea why the maps in Japan are flipped this way?
I don't know but this orange jacket reminds me of his early livestreams and of that sign that he made with cardboard… and it matched with his jacket. John's been taking us on his adventures for 5 years. I want more! 😁
Thanks John for putting up with the rain to film this! Hokkaido is a truly unique region within Japan. I'm looking forward to traveling there eventually to do a roadtrip.
I love cities of this size. Big enough to have a reasonable selection of amenities and small enough that it’s possible to explore in a brief period of time.
It's truly sad to see a foreigner doing a tour when he doesn't even mention, not even once, the most famous things about Kushiro, namely the rare Cranes which are featured on most bank notes. You even picked up your obsession manhole cover which featured two of these red crested Cranes and referred to them as geese. How sad. How ignorant and really, it's to painful to watch the mistakes on your videos.
They are Cranes not geese. LOL 🥰🤣😂
We enjoyed our visit to Kushiro!
Thanks for sharing!
That big silver ball gave me the shivers. It reminded me of Phantasm. I did not expect to get the creeps from this episode. 😂
We enjoy your show! Great at dinner time. John Daub dinner theater. 😁👍☺️
Cool place. ✌️
A black R34 casually going across (23:38) and nobody say anything, that's truly only in Japan.
beautiful city….definitely reminds me of hakodate.
It's not a geese, it' a crane.
Tomakomai, Muroran and Hakodate are also Hokkaido cities on the Pacific…I recommend Hakodate, it's awesome!
26:20 Oops, actually it's facing West. There's more Hokkaido that way, and then Korea and China 😄
In any case, GoogleStreetview drove around on a sunny day, and every city looks better on a sunny day.
26:25 If you draw a line you intersect japan, n.korea, china, myanmar, india/sri lanka, madagascar, south africa
I'm guessing this place is like Siberia in winter ?
We walked along the pier during winter . We also stayed at the same hotel . Ana Crowne Plaza Kushiro . Nice place
I see why this place has such a strong Eastern European feel because of Russian influence in the north. I didn't realize how close it was to Russia. Amazing. ❤ I checked on the map and it is actually just across from Los Angeles. Philippines is south of Japan.
