Kyoto to Nara Day Trip + Fushimi Inari Shrine | Ultimate 1-Day Japan Itinerary I Ep #5 I Vlog #150
Good morning from Kyoto. It’s 5:00 a.m. now and I’m watching this beautiful sunrise from my hotel window where I checked in yesterday. Earlier two nights I stayed at the northwest side of Kyoto station and now I have moved to the southeast side of Kyoto station which is more vibrant and lively compared to the north side of station. The name of the hotel is Hotel Kihan Kyoto Iki Minami and it’s a four-star property very close to Kyoto station. From here you can literally see the trains moving. So today we are heading out on an unforgettable day trip of two of Japan’s most visited spots which are located not very far from the cyto city. Nara and Pushimi Inari Taisha. Get ready for deer temples hidden gems and that iconic tunnel of red to gates. From Kyoto station we are catching Kintetsu line. It’s about 45 to 50 minutes ride to N station. Welcome to N station. It’s a major transport hub in the city of Nara. The station building includes a shopping complex and has some excellent dining options. There is also a tourist information center inside the station from where you can get all the necessary information about this famous tourist destination. The Nara Park is just 15 minutes walk from the station. And as soon as you come out of the station, it’s easy to find your way to the park as directions are given everywhere. The park is home to hundreds of friendly and sometimes feisty deer. You can see the deer roaming freely inside and outside the park. Even the traffic has to halt and give way to them to cross the roads. It is such a great experience to be here among these gentle and beautiful creatures. The deer in this park are protected as national treasures and considered sacred. Don’t forget to pick up some deer crackers called shika senbi from the local vendors. These are special deer crackers made from the rice brand and wheat flour. These crackers are the only food that visitors are allowed to give to the deer. A famous attraction is that many deer have learned to bow for a cracker, a behavior they will repeat if you bow to them first. It’s fun and engaging activity which you must indulge in while visiting this park. Just a short walk inside the park is Toadi Temple, another famous landmark of Nara and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Now it’s time for a quick coffee break. And not just anywhere. This Starbucks cafe is an ideal place offering great views of the park. It’s a perfect spot to relax before exploring more of N. The interiors of this cafe blend seamlessly in the Japanese architecture. Most visitors only see the deer park, but there is more to Nara. Just next to Toddi Temple is Isuen Garden, a stunning traditional garden with pawns, tea houses, and mountain views. After this, you can head to Kasuga Taiisha Shrine, famous for its thousand of stones and bronze lanterns. A quite spiritual retreat under the forest canopy. If you are fond of shopping, then remember to stop by at Higashi Shopping Street. joining the Kintetsu line of Nar station. It’s around 400 p.m. now and we are heading back to Kyoto, but not without one final stop, Fushimi Inari Tashisha, which is one of Japan’s most iconic sites. The shrine is famous for its 10,000 verbilion tory gates, creating a mystical path up to Mount Inari. To reach here, we have stopped at Inari Station, which is on the route to Kyoto. This train journey takes about 50 minutes if you catch a direct train of Nara line. You’ll find the entrance of this iconic site as soon as you come out of Inari Station. Passing through the towering Roman gate, we step into the heart of the shrine where we are greeted by an enchanting atmosphere. The gentle whispers of people visiting here admiring the beauty of the shrine mixed with the glow of the lantern will transport you to a different world. You will see the fox statues called kitsune guard the pathways of the shrine. They are the messengers of the deity Inari the Shinto god of prosperity and success. A few steps ahead lies the famous Sanborn Tori, meaning a thousand Tory gates. These bright Vermillion gates stretch endlessly up the mountain, forming glowing tunnels of colors. Each gate has been donated by individuals or businessmen seeking blessings for prosperity and good fortune. As you walk beneath the gates after 5:00 p.m., the atmosphere becomes serene and intimate. The light filters through the narrow spaces between the Tori, casting deep orange and shadowy pattern along the path. It’s like stepping into a living painting. Occasionally, the silence is broken by soft creek of the wood waking us up from this dream walk. As the sun goes down, the glowing lanterns and returning footsteps will remind you that it’s time to end this tour and head back to Kyoto. Under the shining lights, the shrine glows brightly. The serene experience of visiting this place will leave a spiritual memory with you. And that’s a wrap- up on an epic day journey from Kyoto to Nara and Fushimiarisha. What a truly special video, Adi!
It’s awesome seeing a fellow Delhi native showcasing the world like this. Having friends and family scattered globally means I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Japan quite a few times and I completely agree, it’s unbelievably beautiful. Everything about this vlog especially the smooth transition between locations is simply perfect. Keep up the phenomenal work!!
