Today I’m at Tokushima Station. Tokushima is in the Shikoku region of Japan. It’s often called “Japan’s hidden gem” and is loved by visitors from overseas. It’s about an hour and a half to the nearest station, costing 1,240 yen. I’ve arrived! From here, it’s a 30-minute walk to the hotel. But today is extremely hot. So I’m taking a taxi. It’s about five minutes by taxi to the hotel. Ah, I can see the hotel. The mountains and the hotel… And the sea. A white cat has come to greet me. One after another, more cats appear. Hello there. It seems they can come and go as they please. Oh, a cat here in a place like this. Nice to meet you from today. 🐱 This is Kyu-chan, the hotel’s resident cat. Looks like he’s going to show me around. In 2018, a kitten wandered into the hotel.
They named her “Maru-chan” and gave his a home here. Later, they began caring for cats abandoned in front of the hotel, as well as those rescued from a nearby fishing port— Now there are nearly 50 cats, many of whom have been saved by this hotel.
