This winter, we’re heading to Tokyo. So that you can reminisce about your past trips to Tokyo, we’re sharing a video from our December 2024 trip. Please note that the footage is from a year ago, so the information may be outdated. It was before we started filming for the vlog, so there isn’t much footage for a four-night, five-day trip, and the angle of view may be a little odd. 🙇‍♀️ Our first meal after arriving in Tokyo from Fukuoka was at Shinjuku Acacia at Haneda Airport. The cabbage rolls were delicious! We left our luggage at a hotel in the Hamamatsucho/Daimon area and headed to Roppongi on the Toei Oedo Line. Our first destination was Roppongi Hills. It’s cold and windy in Tokyo! We entered an exhibition we’d reserved in advance. The exhibition is titled “SPITZ, NOW!” and is the first large-scale exhibition of the career of Spitz, a four-piece rock band consisting of Masamune Kusano, Tetsuya Miwa, Akihiro Tamura, and Tatsuo Sakiyama. Spitz released a string of hits in the 1990s, including “Sora mo Toberu Hazu,” “Robinson,” “Cherry,” and “Kaede,” and since 2000, including “Stargazer,” “Haru No Uta,” “Mahou No Kotoba,” “Yasashii Ano Ko,” and “Utsukushii Hire,” and is still active today. It was a great exhibition. (It’s still as cold outside.) I’m checking the operation of my newly purchased camera. We took the Oedo Line again, transferred to the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line at Nakano-sakaue Station, and arrived at Shin-Koenji. This is the rent for a single-person apartment in Tokyo. (This area seems surprisingly cheap.) Located along Shin-Koenji Street, halfway between Shin-Koenji Station and Koenji Station, is MELTIM TOKYO. This cafe serves French pastries called Beignet. The inside of the cafe was full, so I sat on the terrace. (Since I’d walked quite a bit, it wasn’t that cold.) This is the Beignet. It’s covered in a generous amount of white powdered sugar! Beignet apparently means “fried dough” in French. It was delicious, with a light, crispy texture like a donut. It’s the holiday season. Perhaps because of this, the log-like chairs, which are supposed to be up all year round, look just like a Buche de Noel. I’m sure those who enjoy Malasada and other pastries will also enjoy the Beignet. Afterward, we stopped off in Nakameguro, shopping at “OUTDOOR PRODUCTS Usual Things,” and had dinner at the Western restaurant “Menude.” That wraps up our first day. My husband and I each had lunch plans elsewhere that day. Before we split up, we stopped in Ueno. We stopped for a light snack at a coffee shop, so we wouldn’t be full by lunchtime. This cafe is directly managed by “Usagiya,” a famous dorayaki shop. We ordered hot Sayama tea and a large “anmitsu” (sweet red bean paste). My wife and I share clothes when we travel to keep our luggage compact. My wife, who is standing in front of me right now, is wearing my sweater. Usagiya is a real gem. The red bean paste is delicious! My wife had lunch with a client in Shinjuku. I had lunch with a former colleague in Shinbashi. I met up with my wife in Shinjuku. We took the Keio Line local train to Shimotakaido Station. We transferred to the Tokyu Setagaya Line . It was slower than a bicycle—well, a leisurely ride would be better. We took a 15-minute streetcar ride to Shoinjinja-mae Station. We stopped at a cafe in a quiet shopping district. The owner was Mr. Ishii, a member of the comedy duo “CITY.” I was able to chat briefly with him. The camera placement seems a bit off. The coffee looks distorted in the close-up shot. We returned to the city center. We had dinner at a chain restaurant with locations mainly in Tokyo. My wife likes thin beef tongue and strong seasonings, so she used to eat at NEGISHI frequently when she lived in Tokyo. Even though we’re both in Japan, it gets dark earlier in Tokyo than in Fukuoka! I saw a LAVOT who grew up in the capital. A giant Mario sculpture was on display at Marunouchi Building for the holiday season. I was lucky to just happen to be passing by. It was time to head to Maihama, where we’d be staying for the night. Around 8 PM on a weekday, the Musashino Line from Tokyo Station was less crowded than the Keiyo Line. Since we were staying in Maihama, you can probably guess where we were heading the next day. HOTEL DREAM GATE Maihama, directly connected to Maihama Station, has a main building and an ANNEX. We stayed in the ANNEX. Since it’s not a Disney-affiliated hotel, there were no Disney decorations or signs inside. Instead, it’s closer to the station and cheaper than the official hotels, which is a plus. We stayed in a twin room called “Casual 2.” It was spacious enough for two people. The room was surprisingly quiet, making it hard to believe it was located under a train track. Two bottles of mineral water were provided. The bathroom and sink were clean. The toilet, bath, and sink were all separate. It was a simple hotel. We left our luggage in a guest locker and set off early in the morning. We took the Disney Resort Line from Resort Gateway Station to DisneySea. This was my wife and I’d visited Tokyo Disney Resort three times, but our previous two visits were to Disneyland. This was my first visit to DisneySea. It was this crowded before the park opened at 7 a.m. on a Tuesday in the second week of December. It wasn’t cold at all. And best of all, it was sunny. After waiting for about two hours, we finally entered! I was blown away by the view of DisneySea, which For The First Time In Forever. This summer, a new themed port, “Fantasy Springs,” opened at DisneySea. Our first ride was “Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival.” Rapunzel sings. It’s dazzling! I first visited Tokyo Disneyland just before I turned 30, so I’m still not an expert on Disney films. However, my visit to the park has broadened my knowledge, and even at this age, I’m gradually learning more about Disney through watching Disney+ at home and learning about characters at the Disney Store in town . (I don’t know the male character’s name, though.) There are hoof prints. This is a very stylish touch. There’s the Genie! I’ve seen the movie Aladdin! We got our photo taken with the Genie and even exchanged high-fives. In honor of the Genie, we had lunch at the Casbah Food Court in Arabian Coast. Although it was an early lunch, DisneySea itself was relatively empty that day. The popcorn at Disney Resort is delicious, so we ate endless amounts. After that, we took our time to explore the park. We experienced popular attractions like the Tower of Terror and Soarin’. My wife was moved to tears by “Peter Pan’s Neverland Adventure,” while I was exhausted from motion sickness. It was my first time at DisneySea, and I thoroughly enjoyed my full day stay. On the way back, the Disney Resort Line was decorated for Christmas! Anticipating a tiring stay at DisneySea, we booked a hotel for the night in Shinkiba, two stops from Maihama. This hotel was also spacious and convenient. This is the “Deluxe Twin / Bench Type” room. As the name suggests, it features a convenient bay window. Since we have a lot to do tomorrow, let’s chill out and get some sleep. Upon arriving in Ginza, we immediately dropped off our luggage at our hotel and walked around the city. For lunch, we visited Ginza Swiss, our second visit. This was our first visit since the restaurant relocated in 2022. The potage soup that comes with the meal is delicious. Having previously been fully booked, we reserved a table this time, paying a 500 yen table charge. Katsu curry originated at Ginza Swiss, so it’s a must-try. (Having said that, I think I had katsu curry last time too.) Both the crab cream croquette and the katsu curry were delicious. We achieved our goal of “eating elegant Western food in Ginza.” From Ginza, we took the subway and bus to an area north of Sensoji Temple. This jewelry shop is located in an apartment room. (The Asakusa store is currently closed, and it seems they now have a store in Yoyogi.) Although it’s located in a residential area far from the station, customers kept coming in. Anyway, we were able to buy the items my wife was looking for. Since the weather was nice, we decided to walk back to Asakusa Station. Crossing Kototoi-dori Street and returning to Sensoji Temple, we found ourselves in the heart of Asakusa, a popular tourist destination. There were a few students on school trips. I’m jealous that they’re going to Tokyo on a high school trip. My wife just looked at Tokyo Skytree and said, “It’s so close, yet so far away.” That’s a meaningful comment. In my twenties, I used to look up at “Sunshine 60” in Ikebukuro. However, Sunshine 60 is 239 meters tall, while Tokyo Skytree is 634 meters. It’s intimidating to think that Tokyo Skytree is 2.5 times taller than Sunshine 60. We picked up a LOVELETTERZ (Japanese comedians) booklet at Parco in Ikebukuro, did some shopping, enjoyed a relaxing cake at HARBS, and then had some Chinese noodles afterwards, completing our goal. Our guest room is just beyond the rooftop Japanese garden. This is the Executive Twin at Agora Tokyo Ginza. Perhaps it’s a hallmark of Agora hotels, but it somehow feels like a resort hotel overseas. The hotel was clean and comfortable, with a tranquil, casual atmosphere that belied its location in Higashi Ginza. Our five-day, four-night trip quickly came to an end. Our fifth day began in Shibuya, a city that has undergone a remarkable transformation since our memories. When we lived in Tokyo, there was no Shibuya Stream or Shibuya Scramble Square, and Miyashita Park was still in its pre-renovation period. Before lunch, we headed to the hotel’s cafe in Miyashita Park. This cafe, open to hotel guests, has a cosmopolitan atmosphere. I’d love to linger, but we’re running out of time, so we have to move on to the next spot. For lunch, we went to Barbacoa, a restaurant my wife used to frequent. While I’ve had churrasco before, this was my first time at Barbacoa. Staff came to our table one after another with meats and cheeses. Red indicates full, green indicates still available. Grilled pineapple arrived, a dish rarely included in lunches at other churrasco locations! The grilling enhances its sweetness. Delicious. I ate too much. I’m full. I came to Shibuya Parco to buy souvenirs. It’s packed with Nintendo game merchandise, so even non-Japanese tourists will be excited. Try your luck at the chance to win a random keychain designed after a game console controller. (We bought two copies of Vol. 2.) The first one was a Super Famicom button! The other one was a Nintendo 64 button! We were happy to get both the things we wanted. “Nintendo FUKUOKA” will also open in Fukuoka in November of this year (2025), but it may not be as large as the Tokyo version. We walked from Shibuya to Harajuku and Omotesando, did some shopping, and our winter 2024 trip to Tokyo came to a close. Just as Ciattre Tokyo will be closing in November 2025, the city will likely look different the next time we visit. We’re looking forward to our next trip to Tokyo, including seeing that transformation. Thank you for watching until the end. Please subscribe to our channel.
