🇯🇵【真夏の避暑地!勝浦Vlog】地元グルメと絶景ビーチ、城下町散策|千葉 関東 旅行
I have come to Chiba Katsuura Station on the Sotobo Line. “Katsuura Big Hina Festival” is held every year from late February to March 3rd.
During the period, the city is colored with Hina dolls, including the staircase dolls of Tomisaki Shrine, as well as shrines, temples, shops and post offices in the city. The Hina dolls are also displayed at the station building. I’m heading to the morning market. About 10 minutes on foot from the station. The Katsuura Morning Market is held in different locations in the first and second halves of the month. In the first half of the month, it is held at the Shimohonmachi Morning Market Street at the foot of Tomisaki Shrine, where dolls are displayed on the stairs for the Hina Festival. There is a sign for the morning market rest area ahead, but this morning market is not in that direction. Proceed to the right at this intersection. If you turn right and go straight, you will see Keiyo Bank. After passing Keiyo Bank, you will see Tomisaki Shrine in front of you. This is the Morning Market Street. Since I arrived around 9 o’clock, some of the exhibitors have already left. I remember eating Tantanmen about 10 years ago and it was delicious. The street ends ahead, so I’ll turn back. I wanted to buy dried fish if I was going home today. The Ika Menchi (squid cake) shop on the left had a long line. I couldn’t forget the taste of the pickled plums I bought at the morning market 10 years ago, so that was my purpose this time. I couldn’t hear “sour”, so the explanation of “salty” (salt content) continued… (laughs) So I bought a one-year-old one. It was delicious. I have come to Tomisaki Shrine. I’m going to climb to the top! There are 60 steps here. When the season comes, Hina dolls will be lined up tightly. I can see the sea! By the way, Tomisaki Shrine was introduced as one of the 15 best power spots on “Matsuko’s Unknown World”. I have come to the main hall. The deity enshrined at Tomisaki Shrine is Amenoto no Mikoto.
Amenoto no Mikoto moved to the Boso Peninsula from Shikoku and is the god of development who brought technology and culture (from WikiPedia). Hardly anyone climbs up here. There was another staircase and a small shrine. There seems to be an observation deck at the end of this staircase. It was hot and hard, but the result of training by climbing Mt. Takao on a regular basis! There was a bench, so I took a break in the breeze. You can see the Marine Park in front. You can see the Marine Park in front. You can see the Marine Park in front. After getting off, I will head to Hachiman Misaki. There are signs for Route 246 (Katsuura Port Line) and Shinyashiki Street.
Traces of magnificent houses that prospered in the fishing industry. The Honkawara roof is magnificent. A tiled wall with tiles embedded in it. It is the first time I see this style of wall. Anyway, it’s so hot that I’m walking around looking for shade.
Or rather, no one is walking lol I have come to the Hachiman Misaki Observatory. The wind is especially strong at the tip of the cape. At this point, the wind is so strong that it feels like it will blow you away. This is the site of Katsuura Castle. One last push from here. From the observation deck, you can see Katsuura Bay and the open sea (Pacific Ocean). You can see Katsuura Lighthouse. The statue of Oman no Kata, a concubine of Ieyasu Tokugawa. Grandmother of Mito Mitsukuni (Komon-sama). Oops, I might have collided with a bicycle. I’m back at Katsuura Fishing Port. Lunch. I walked around and found “New Fukuya” along the main road.
I was a little worried because there were many items on the menu, but it was a great success because it was used by local people! Katsuura Tantanmen. Mild spiciness. Kinme set meal (1,350 yen)
It looks rich, but it’s not salty, so it was a great choice! The couple who shared the table with me usually live in Tokyo, but they bought a house in Katsuura and come here occasionally. They said they always come to this restaurant. I rushed in without any research, but it was a great success. I’m lucky! (laughs) Thank you for the meal! I came by bus to the coast of Ubara, where the Katsuura Underwater Observatory Tower is located. During low tide, there are rocky areas in front. It is a perfect place for tide pools observation. To get to the Marine Park, buy a ticket at the sales area far ahead and go through the tunnel on the right. Dead end here. Chiba Prefectural Marine Science Museum. Enjoy the marine life exhibit. General admission 200 yen. I don’t hate it. This pun (laughs) I will take a local bus to Okitsu Beach, where I will be staying. Approximately once every hour. This is Moriya Beach. There are many parking lots, so it is crowded with beachgoers. Looking at it this way, the vacancy rate is quite high.
I wonder what will happen in 10 years. The eastern end of Okitsu Beach. There is a fishing port. The “aozora cafe” where I wanted to go for authentic spice curry but couldn’t. Get off in front of Okitsu Post Office. I’m going back to the hotel. 6 o’clock the next morning. Morning walk. The Sotobo Line passes through the temple’s approach. I heard that it exists in Nara, but I can see it here. According to records, it started in 1264 (Bun-ei 1).
Nichiren sect head temple Koeizan Myokakuji Temple Niomon (Sanmon) Gate built in 1839 (Tenpo 10). The main hall was built in 1817 (Bunka 14). To the coast in 5 minutes on foot. I watched the sunrise. After eating breakfast, I took the train from Kazusa-Okitsu to Katsuura, and then took a bus to Otaki. The Katsuura direction is on the opposite side of the overpass. Actually, the day before, I jumped on the train from the platform in front of the ticket gate in a hurry and ended up going towards Kamogawa lol A semi-automatic door that doesn’t open unless you press it to improve heating and cooling efficiency. About 50 minutes by bus from Katsuura Station to Otaki Station (600 yen). Otaki is a castle town famous for Honda Tadakatsu, played by Yuki Yamada in the Taiga drama “What to do, Ieyasu”. Isumi Line Otaki Station. Currently suspended due to a derailment accident in October 2024. I rented an electric-assist bicycle at the tourist information center. 500 yen for a day is a good deal. Otaki Prefectural High School is on the castle grounds. I’ll go through the school to climb the small hill where the castle is. The electric assist is helpful on the uphill slope. Otaki Castle. The interior has been closed since 2021 for facility renovations.
It seems there are no plans to reopen even after 4 years, perhaps due to budget issues. With the railway and the castle, the tourism situation in Otaki is unfortunate. The exhibition facility called Kenshukan is open to the public for free. Ah, it’s cool~ Time for a short break. The deer antler-shaped helmet is said to have been used by Honda Tadakatsu. A large well to ensure a water supply during wartime.
It’s on the grounds of Otaki High School. The statue of Honda Tadakatsu on the railing of the Isumi River in the castle town. It’s surprisingly small. The magnificent Isumi Shrine. There’s no one here. It was late and the surrounding shops were closed, so
I went to “Tonkatsu-tei Ariie”. The coating was super crispy, another great choice!
The prices are reasonable as it’s a place frequented by locals. I went for a swim after 5 PM when there were fewer beachgoers.
It was cold at first but felt great~. The sea is beautiful too. My first domestic trip in a while. And now I’m back in scorching hot Tokyo. I highly recommend Okitsu Beach!! Thank you for watching!
