The Jomo region is an ancient name for what is now Gunma Prefecture. Mount Akagi, Mount Haruna, and Mount Myogi are collectively known as the Jomo Sanzan (Three Mountains of Jomo). All three mountains are renowned peaks representing Gunma Prefecture. They are also famous for their abundant attractions and scenic beauty as prime autumn foliage spots. This time, we introduce the stunning autumn foliage views of the Jomo sanzan! Gunma Prefecture’s Famous Peaks:
The Jomo Three Mountains (Mount Akagi, Mount Haruna, Mount Myogi)
Autumn Leaves Scenery Mt. Akagi ( Early to late October ) Mt. Akagi is a volcano located roughly in the center of Gunma Prefecture. It’s one of the “100 Great Mountains of Japan”. The summit of the mountain has several peaks, and Lakes and marshes such as Ono, Kono and Kakumanfuchi are scattered here. Lake Kono Kono is a small volcanic lake located at the top of Mt Akagi. There is a walking trail by the lake where you can walk around the lake I recommend it as a base for climbing Mt. Akagi. Kakumanbuchi Kakumanbuchi is a high marshland located at the top of Mt Akagi. There is a walking trail that can take you around the swamp and marshland. You can enjoy a casual stroll while looking at the surrounding mountains Mt. Kojizo Mt. Komagatake Torii Pass Torii Pass offers a panoramic view of Ono and Kakumanbuchi. It’s a convenient base for walking around Kakumanbuchi. Lake Ono Ono is the largest caldera lake at the top of Mt Akagi. Mt. Kurobi ( The highest peak of Mt. Akagi) You can also enjoy fishing for smelt from a boat in the autumn. Mt. Haruna and Lake Haruna ( Late October – Early November ) Lake Haruna Mt. Haruna is a 1,390-meter-high mountain located in the center of Gunma Prefecture. Lake Haruna is a caldera lake located at the top of Mt. Haruna. Mt. Haruna-Fuji can be seen from many places around the lake. Silver grass and maple trees can also be seen along the lake. There are also many cruise ships and boats in operation. A ropeway takes you to the summit of Haruna-Fuji Along with Mt. Akagi and Mt. Myogi, Mt. Haruna is one of the “Three Mountains of Jomo”. and “Three Mountains of Jomo” are famous for their autumn leaves. Mt. Myogi ( Late October – Mid November ) Mt. Myogi is an impressive mountain with an unusual mountain shape and rough rocky surface. It is counted among “Japan’s Three Great Gorge Views” and “Japan’s Three Great Natural Wonders”. It has been selected as one of the “100 best autumn leaves in Japan”. Mt. Kondo Mt. Hakuun (White Cloud Mountain) Mt. Myogi is a collective name for several peaks including Mt. Kondo, Mt. Hakuun and Mt. Kinkei. The highest peak is Soma-dake (1,104m) on Hakuun Mountain The roadway winds its way through the main peaks. Mt. Kondo Stone Gate Tour Hiking Course The First Stone Gate Climbing to the summit of Mt. Myogi is very dangerous and is for advanced climbers, but There is a well maintained “intermediate path” that walks along the middle of Mt. Myogi. In particular, the “Stone Gate Tour” is an enjoyable hiking course even for beginners! The Second Stone Gate The second stone gate goes through a chain, which is a bit more challenging. Relatively short distances and detours that don’t go through the chain link The Fourth Stone Gate The Cannon Rock The Fifth Stone Gate The fourth stone gate offers a view of the Cannon Rock and the fifth stone gate. The third stone gate is too small to pass through. Higurashi no Kei From the fourth stone gate, you can see the magnificent view called “Higurashi no Kei”. Panoramic view from the Mt.Myogi Nakanodake Parking Lot The Nakanodake Parking Lot is located at the southernmost parking lot of Mt Myogi. This parking lot is a convenient base for climbing Mt Myogi, such as the “Stone Gate Tour”. The view of Mt. Myogi from here is amazing. It is also one of the best places to view Mt Myogi. This is the morning view of Mount Kinkei seen from the Nakanodake parking lot. Mt. Kinkei is one of the three main peaks of Mt. Myogi. Due to the danger of falling rocks, climbing is currently prohibited. Mt. Myogi is exquisite in the combination of the rugged mountain scenery, oddly-shaped rocks and autumn leaves. 「上毛（じょうもう）」地域は、現在の群馬県を指す古代の旧称で、赤城山・榛名山・妙義山の三つの山を総称して「上毛三山」と呼びます。この三つの山は、いずれも群馬県を代表する名峰であり、また見所豊富で、風光明媚な紅葉名所としても有名です。
今回の動画では、上毛三山の紅葉絶景をご紹介します！

■赤城山 ( 10月中旬〜11月上旬 )
赤城山（あかぎやま）は、群馬県のほぼ中央に位置する火山で「日本百名山」の一つに数えられます。山頂部はカルデラとなっており、黒檜山や駒ケ岳などいくつかのピークと大沼・小沼・覚満淵などの湖沼・湿原群が点在しています。例年の紅葉の見頃は10月中旬頃で、榛名山・妙義山とともに「上毛三山」の一つにも数えられます。

■榛名山 ( 10月下旬〜11月上旬 )
榛名山（はるなさん）は群馬県の中央部に位置する標高1,390ｍの山で、榛名湖（はるなこ）は榛名山の山頂部にあるカルデラ湖です。湖畔の随所から最高峰の榛名富士を展望でき、湖畔にはススキやモミジも見られます。榛名湖では遊覧船やボートの運航も盛んで、榛名富士にはロープウエイで山頂に登れます。

■妙義山 ( 10月下旬〜11月中旬 )
妙義山（みょうぎさん）は特異な山容と荒々しい岩肌が印象的な山で、「日本三大奇勝」に挙げられる群馬県随一の紅葉名所であり、「日本の紅葉百選」に選定されています。妙義山は金洞山・白雲山・金鶏山など複数の峰々の総称で、最高峰は白雲山にある相馬岳（標高1,104ｍ）です。妙義山の山頂への登山は非常に危険で上級者向けですが、妙義山の中腹を歩く「中間道」も整備されていて、特に「石門めぐり」は初心者でも楽しめる登山コースです。

■Mt. Akagi ( Mid-October to early November )
Mt. Akagi is a volcano located in the center of Gunma Prefecture and is one of the “100 greatest mountains in Japan”. The summit is a caldera, with several peaks such as Mt. Kurohi and Mt. Komagatake, and lakes and wetlands such as Onuma, Konuma, and Kakumanbuchi scattered throughout the mountain. Together with Mt. Haruna and Mt. Myogi, it is one of the “Jomo Sanzanzan” (Three Mountains of Jomo).

■Mt. Haruna ( Late October – Early November )
Mt. Haruna is a 1,390-meter-high mountain located in the central part of Gunma Prefecture, and Lake Haruna is a caldera lake at the summit of Mt. Haruna. Haruna Fuji, the highest peak on the mountain, can be viewed from many places along the lake, and silver grass and maple trees can also be seen along the lake. Sightseeing boats are actively operated on Lake Haruna, and a ropeway takes visitors up to the summit of Mt. Haruna.

■Mt. Myogi ( Late October to Mid November )
Mt. Myogi, with its unique mountain shape and rugged rock surface, has been selected as one of the “100 best autumn leaves viewing spots in Japan”. Mt. Myogi is the collective name for several peaks, including Mt. Kondo, Mt. Hakuun, and Mt.Kinkei. Although climbing to the summit of Mt. Myogi is extremely dangerous and reserved for advanced climbers, there is a well-maintained “intermediate trail” walking halfway up Mt. Myogi, especially the “Ishimon Meguri” (stone gate tour), a climbing course that can be enjoyed by beginners.
