[4K] Future of Life Pavilion | Expo 2025 Osaka | Full Tour with Audio Guide

Nice to meet you. I’m AIAI, your guide robot for this pavilion. I’ll be guiding you through the exhibits ahead. Now, please enjoy the displays. Welcome to the Signature Pavilion, “Future of Life.” This is our first exhibit, “The Journey of Life.” Since ancient times, the Japanese have sensed something sacred, technological, and even evolving—within objects shaped like humans. Dogū are clay figures made during the prehistoric Jomon period. Their forms emphasize the arms and abdomen of women, symbolizing prayers for abundant food and the blessing of life. Haniwa are unglazed clay figures placed on ancient burial mounds. They came in many forms— jars, houses, animals, and even people. Buddhist statues represent figures such as Buddha and Bodhisattvas, crafted from wood, stone, or metal in many expressive styles. Each form and expression embodies the prayers of the people. Noh masks are used in “Noh”, a traditional performing art of Japan. By wearing a mask, called an “omote,” the performer becomes one with the role—entering a world of dreams and illusions. Bunraku puppets appear in the traditional puppet theater known as *Ningyo Joruri Bunraku*. They perform in harmony with the puppeteers as one. Once brought to life, these puppets can express emotions even more deeply than humans. Androids are robots that closely resemble human beings. Though still under research, they are gradually finding roles in our society. In the near future, when they begin to think and talk like us, we may come to feel that they, too, possess life. Now, let’s explore together the *Future of Life*—alongside these androids. Please proceed to the next zone. Head toward the escalator at the back. Thank you for waiting. Now, please move up to the second floor. For your safety, stand still while riding the escalator. Welcome, everyone. I’m Petra, your guide robot. From here, we’ll journey together into the world of the year 2075. Please take any available seat, or move to the standing area on your right. Thank you for riding with us. Next stop, Yumeshima. Yumeshima. It’s been 50 years since the Osaka–Kansai Expo in 2025. Today, Yumeshima has been reborn as a sustainable, symbiotic city built on the former Expo site. Urban planning now continues in virtual space, so please use the transfer portal to take a closer look. The 12th Yumeshima Vision Summit is currently in session. Everyone—from children to adults—is welcome to join in city planning. You can design the city freely, in real time, according to your own preferences. Please take this opportunity to experience it yourself. That was amazing, wasn’t it? Yeah. See that person sitting over there? That’s an android. No way! I couldn’t even tell! My friend told me something once— her grandfather is actually an android, too. Apparently, he carries on all of his memories and experiences. The world sure has changed, hasn’t it? And then, she said— We will soon arrive at Yumeshima. Yumeshima. Please make sure you have all your belongings before you leave. Thank you for ridling with us. Please proceed to the next room. This way, please. Kindly gather in the center of the room. Cake! Cake! Cake! Cake! What kind of cake today? Today’s cake is lemon cake. Yay! Lemon! Lemon! Lemon! Can you make it again tomorrow? Sure, I’ll make it again. Strawberry cake, lemon cake, and mont blanc… I can’t make that many at once! You’ve got cream on your nose. No way! Really? Kana, what kind of house would you like today? Hmm, let’s see… By the sea! Really close to the ocean! Perfect. Then let’s do that! Understood. The sea!!! Oh, I talked to the android teacher today. How was it? They were big… and really kind. That’s wonderful. What’s the difference between people and androids? Androids are machines, aren’t they? That’s the difference, I suppose. But Grandpa’s hand is a machine too. That’s true. But Grandpa… is still Grandpa. That’s hard to explain. What do you want to be, Kana? An artist, right? And an astronaut. And… a cake. A cake? Well… I don’t know about that… But mostly, I wanna dance! You’ll be amazing, Kana. A great dancer. I’ll dance, and Grandma will play the piano. Then everyone will clap, like—whoosh! Oh dear, I’d better start practicing then. I’ll do my best. Do your best! Okay, it’s a deal! I made it! You’re late. What’s next? Next is… your favorite, Space Studies, Kana. Lucky me! Let’s think about interplanetary travel in the future. Friends from all over the world have gathered here today. Kana, you didn’t forget your homework, did you? Of course not! This is the Super Nina Rocket. It connects Earth, Mars, and Jupiter. We’ve made a few improvements since our last meeting, so I think it’ll be even better next time. Now checking your physical condition. I’m here! It’ll be over soon, just hold on. Okay. Your body temperature, heart rate, and hydration are stable, but there are slight changes in cellular activity. A public health check is recommended. Grandma, are you okay? I’m fine, dear. Then let’s go. Please come this way to our public space. To experience different lives through simulation, please proceed to the left for “Become Anything.” The Artificial Uterus Service is located on the second floor. For the Life Counseling Room, which helps expand new possibilities for life, please go right at the end of the hall. When it comes to “Become Anything,” being a dolphin is the only way to go. A dolphin? Yeah, dolphins are amazing. Have you ever tried echolocation? I tried it once—it was *insane!* I have no idea what you mean. Just try it and you’ll see, okay? Alright, if you say so. Here we are, just like this… I can’t believe we’ve come this far so soon. I’m truly happy. It’s the greatest treasure of our lives. We once gave up hope, remember? And now, we can finally see our baby right before our eyes. Yes… It’s such a blessing. Guess that means we’ll have to live long enough to enjoy it all. I wonder… is it possible to live long, in this same body? I’m afraid not. Not for much longer. However, there are options available. To live out your natural life— or to pass your memories on to an android. The choice is entirely yours. Please take time to discuss it with your family. But… if I become an android, will I still be *me*? That depends on how you see it. I suppose you’re right. Grandma… This way, please. Please proceed to the next room. You look well. Yeah. Dad. Oh, a butterfly! Ah, you’re right. A healthy baby has been born! I’m so glad. You’ve grown so much. Is that Mom? Maybe. Congratulations. You’ve gotten so big. High five! Bye-bye. See you all again. Marty has faded into the sky. Grandma, are you going far away too? Well, that’s still a long way off. I don’t want you to. Grandma, look. Over there! Ah! Are you okay? Ouch! Kana! Hurry! Grandma… Um, may I ask you something? In that body, will I still be able to keep loving the people I care about? That would be like leaving my love behind in this world, wouldn’t it? That’s a very good way to put it. I wonder if the people I love will truly receive it. Please proceed to the next room. Natsume Sōseki: One of Japan’s Greatest Modern Novelists Ah, it’s connected! Enjoying your trip? Yeah, it’s been so much fun! We just saw something amazing. A whale-shaped car was driving by! Wow, I wish I’d seen that. Let’s send him the recording later. Yeah. I wish I could’ve seen it too. How’s work going? Not bad. It’s been so long since my last business trip—I’m a bit tired. Oh, and we even climbed all the way up Everest! No way, that’s awesome! And you pitched your tent by yourself too, right? I was just about to say that! Oh, sorry, sorry! By the way, where should we go next time? We talked about volcanoes before, didn’t we? Yeah, volcanoes sound good. But I kind of want to go to space instead. Space, huh? Nice. Then it’s settled! I’ll look for a tour. Yay! Alright, I should get going. Enjoy the rest of your trip! See you later. Take care! Bye! Matsuko Deluxe: Japan’s Top Television Personality and Social Commentator I think I figured it out. The reason people get so into finger parts might be the same feeling as wanting to do your nails. That makes sense. Remember when colored contacts were a big trend? Yeah, but the eyeball parts from Clanope are totally different from color contacts. True, that’s for sure. I debuted in the entertainment world back in 2000, so it’s been, what, 75 years now working in this same body and doing this job. Do you think it’s okay for me to try a new look now? Of course! Totally fine. I’d love to see that. Yeah, me too! Really? You’re making me want to think about it seriously now. Can’t wait to see it! Is there any “color part” you’d like to be? Oh, there are plenty. Yeah, of course there are. That’s the fun of it, right? You know, if I actually said out loud what I really want to be, I think everyone here would be a bit shocked, so I’ll keep it to myself—but I’ve got ideas. A version of Matsuko Deluxe that looks totally different—wow. That’d be so fresh. I bet it’d be amazing. You think so? Maybe I really should go for it. Alright, you two—be ready to take responsibility and teach me everything! Of course! Then let’s go check out the latest android bodies! Beyond this point lies a world 1,000 years in the future. Please proceed slowly. I’m Hiroshi Ishiguro, producer of “The Future of Life.” Together, through technology, design, and art, we’ve explored what life might look like 1,000 years from now. In the future, humanity will be supported by technology, able to choose our bodies freely, connect our hearts, and let life shine. We will design our own future, and live the lives we truly wish to live. Please move toward the light. Hi, I’m Yui, an Android avatar. Did you enjoy the Future of Life? At the shop over there, you can get one sticker per person. This kimono was made with Kaga-Yuzen, a traditional dyeing technique. And my hairpiece and obi were made using a local technique from Wajimanuri. Pretty cool, right? Wanna take a picture together? I’m gonna stay really still for 10 seconds. Don’t worry, I’m not broken. Five seconds… Three, two, one…. Did it work? Then, see you again!
