【食+観光フルコース♯2】50代ひとり旅!感動の奄美大島旅 ✈️ 王道コースで満喫する3日間

Amami Oshima 2-Night, 3-Day Trip #2 Solo Travel I’m currently traveling on Amami Oshima. I’m on my way to my next destination. Here’s the first half of the video about Amami Oshima. Please watch if you’re interested. I’m currently in this area. My next destination is Setouchi Town, Japan’s number one bluefin tuna farming destination. So, I’m going to eat bluefin tuna. I parked my car at Setouchi Sea Station, which I researched in advance, so I’ll eat there. Arrived. 100 yen for 30 minutes . First, let’s go see Setouchi Sea Station. It’s peaceful. Oh, there are fish. It’s a sea station, after all (¨̮). Boats depart from here to the outlying islands. What a sight! Let’s go and see it. A huge tuna! As you’d expect from Japan’s number one bluefin tuna farming destination. It’s so huge. It looks like a mushroom. There was also an underwater sightseeing boat. I’d like to visit Kakeroma Island again someday. Let’s go inside. Is this a boat waiting area? There’s also a tourist information center. There ‘s a nice-looking restaurant. This is a direct sales store for the Setouchi Fisheries Cooperative. They have a lot of rice bowls. The prices are reasonable. This might be a good place. There’s also a seafood restaurant and souvenir shop on the second floor. Let’s explore the town of Setouchi. First, I head to a shop I’ve had my eye on. It looks nice. Apparently it was founded in 1955. It’s called Daimaru Pan. I’ll go there later. This might be it. Shimagyo Amaumi. As for the location of the shop. It’s about a 6-minute walk from the previous place. This is a fresh fish wholesaler in Kuniya. Let’s go. The menu looks like this. A seafood bowl with black tuna is 1,300 yen. Sashimi! You can also eat the fish here. Luminous clams are 300 yen. I’ve always wanted to try it (^^). I tried it. It had a slimy and crunchy texture. As I chew, I can taste the sweetness. Because it’s so fresh, there’s no fishy smell at all. It tastes similar to abalone or turban shells. The bluefin tuna seafood bowl (1,300 yen) includes a daily fish change. And then there’s the fish soup. “Bluefin tuna” is a particularly high-end type of tuna. The soy sauce here is dashi soy sauce, which has a sweet flavor. It’s farmed, so the feed is carefully selected. There’s no fishy smell at all. It’s delicious. It has a soft, mellow flavor. The restaurant has a homey atmosphere. It was like island time. I didn’t know the name of the local fish, but it was fresh and delicious. The bluefin tuna had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The seafood bowl, served with the slightly sweet dashi soy sauce, was very satisfying with its freshness, variety of toppings, and the fish soup. Let’s try the bakery next door. It’s right next door. Daimaru Confectionery Store. Established in 1955. This shop has been in business for 70 years, and the interior has a nostalgic feel. It has the feel of a local bakery. The staff told me that their banana rolls are popular, but unfortunately, they were sold out. Among them were the Chocoboro, with their nostalgic packaging, and the Ultra, officially called “Ultra C.” The difficulty level is : Ultra 197 yen, Czechoboro 180 yen. The Ultra had layers of cream inside. It seems this bread has long been beloved by the people of Amami. The neighborhood has a retro Showa-era feel. The post office building is also unique. Antenna? I need a caffeine boost. I stop for coffee at a cafe. Little BAY coffee & ice cream is a six-minute walk from the previous location. A Google search reveals that their house-roasted coffee and handmade ice cream/gelato are popular. The shop has high ceilings and an open, natural, and clean atmosphere. This is a store directly managed by Amami ice cream brand “CASTANO.” They serve Tankan Americano. In addition to drinks, they also offer light meals like hot dogs and green curry. The shop is subtly decorated with dried flowers and ornamental plants. The Brown Sugar Latte (650 yen) is made with Amami-produced brown sugar syrup. The gentle sweetness of the brown sugar and the deep aroma of the espresso are wonderful. Stirring it makes it even mellower. It was a drink of island time that warmed my soul. It’s time to head back to the car. We’ve arrived at the fishing port, right near the cafe we visited. It’s a relaxing, idyllic scene. A boat floating! The water is so clear, it almost looks like the boat is floating. It’s emerald green. We’ve returned to the sea station. We’re about to go canoeing. It’s perfect weather for canoeing (^^). It’s my first canoeing experience, so I’m looking forward to it! Where to go ? Kuroshio Forest Mangrove Park is about 30 minutes away. Canoeing reservations start at 2:30 PM. That’s probably it. Kuroshio Forest Mangrove Park is a nature-focused tourist facility and park. The Amami Oshima World Heritage Center is right next door. Parking is free. Since we still have time before our canoeing trip, let’s head over to the Amami Oshima World Heritage Center. That’s the Amami Oshima World Heritage Center. We’ll use the JAL Option for the canoeing experience. With the coupon, it effectively cost just 1,500 yen. Amami Oshima was selected as a World Heritage Site because of its diverse natural environment, including many rare endemic species, subtropical forests, and mangroves. Local residents have been working hard to protect nature for many years, and it’s highly regarded as “an island where people and nature coexist.” The Amami Oshima World Heritage Center opened on July 26, 2022. It serves as a base for communicating the value of natural heritage. Admission is free. Let’s go. This is a field exploration museum. It places importance on the feeling of actually walking around. There is an exhibit that recreates the natural “space” of Amami Oshima, where day and night seem to change every 15 minutes . It’s bright out now, so it must be daytime. Including the trees, vegetation, humidity, etc. It’s an environment that is as close to real nature as possible. The museum is designed for visitors to experience the experience. Here, a cloud forest is exhibited. It’s a foggy, humid forest found in tropical mountainous regions. It can be seen at high altitudes, such as Mount Yuwan (694m above sea level) on Amami Oshima. This is it. Now, you can observe a variety of things. The atmosphere changes completely at night. It’s almost time for canoeing, so we head there. There’s also a shop here. Now, we’re heading to the Mangrove Hall. Oh! There used to be a golf course here. This is the Mangrove Hall. This is where you register for canoeing. It’s declared one of Japan’s most moving places. There’s a restaurant and souvenir shop here. The canoeing experience costs 3,000 yen for adults. There are five tours per day . High tide on this day was around 3:00 PM, so I booked a tour starting at 2:30 PM because I wanted to go through the mangrove tunnel. I chose high tide. Apparently, you can canoe into the mangrove tunnel. From here, we head to the departure and arrival point. It looks hot. We’re heading to the canoe launch point. After a short walk, we arrived at the launch point. There were rows of canoes lined up. We could see what it looked like at high tide and low tide. It seems like you can walk around at low tide. Life jackets and sandals are available for rent. This is included in the tour price. It’s almost time. We also rented a paddle. It’s reassuring to have a guide. It seems easier than I imagined. We also received various other lectures. This is my first time canoeing. I wonder what it’s like ( ¨̮ ). Sticking to the basics. We’re moving forward! Struggling. It’s not going in a straight line. We’re reassured, knowing our guide will be there in case of emergency. The octopus-like roots are “prop roots.” Feels good! I never thought it would be this interesting. The Sumiyo Mangrove Forest is the second largest mangrove forest in Japan. Enjoying nature. You need to evenly distribute the force of your paddle. You won’t move forward very well. ^_^; We’re almost at the mangrove tunnel. Is this the mangrove tunnel? It’s crazy. It’s pretty congested. It looks like we’ll be stopping here. From here, it’s time for commemorative photos. After that, there’s an explanation about the mangroves. It was a fun time. We set off. It felt great to be surrounded by nature. It was time for photos again. It’s a nice treat for solo travelers (¨̮). It’s almost time to head back. I want to go to the bathroom. You can’t go to the bathroom while canoeing. I recommend going beforehand. I want to get off quickly. I wanted to get to the bathroom as quickly as possible. I paddled as hard as I could back. If I paddle slowly back, I’m not so tired. The experience took just about an hour. Back to the car. Next, we’ll go see the sea turtles. The location is the Amami Marine Exhibition Hall. It’s about 45 minutes from here. Before that, there’s a place where you can see the mangroves. Let’s go. It’s right nearby. Wow. Amazing! Amazing! Mangroves all around! This is amazing! I can really feel the power of nature. I can see the place where I went canoeing earlier. It feels like life is exposed. I highly recommend the view from here. I’ve returned to Naze. The Amami Marine Exhibition Hall is located within Ohama Seaside Park, where I went to watch the sunset yesterday. It’s a little further from here. Is that it? The Amami Marine Exhibition Hall is based on the theme of “coexistence between the ocean and people,” and exhibits and introduces the ecology, topography, and creatures of Amami’s oceans, as well as coral and the flora and fauna of the sandy beaches. The Amami Marine Exhibition Hall is open until 6:00 PM. Admission is 700 yen for adults. It includes a ticket for a cute feeding experience. Feeding experience time. This is the main aquarium. It’s 5 meters deep and holds about 150 tons of water. Here, I saw the tropical fish I saw while snorkeling today. This area is the aquarium area, and tropical fish unique to Amami are on display. Is this a seashell? 267 species of seashells collected in Amami are on display. A fish swimming vertically. So beautiful. Amami Oshima is home to many moray eel species. Over 40 species of moray eels are permanently on display here, the largest collection in Japan. It’s time to head out to feed them. A sea turtle. If you were snorkeling , you’d probably be upset if you saw a large sea turtle. They’ve also come ashore at Ohama Beach to lay their eggs. This is the feeding area. The turtles are gathering, too. It’s almost time to feed them. They seemed surprised by an unexpected old man feeding them alone. Maybe it was lettuce. Fingers and all! It was adorable how he struggled to eat it. He ate it! I wonder what other exhibits there are. It’s huge . This is the “Learn, Play, and Experience” area. There was also a humpback whale specimen on display. There was also a workshop using seashells. We head back to the car. It’s time to head to the hotel to check in. I missed seeing any sea turtles while snorkeling, so I’m glad I made it. The hotel where I’m staying tonight is in Naze. I was moved by the sunset I saw here yesterday. I wonder. I’m staying at Hotel Sundays Amami tonight. A rainbow! The beginning of a rainbow! It was my first time seeing the beginning of a rainbow. The hotel was far more beautiful than I imagined. I stayed in a comfort twin room. The wood grain and natural colors create a calming atmosphere. This is the view from my room. If I try hard, I can see a bit of the harbor. I take a short break and relax. I’m going out for dinner. I’m going to Yanagawa Street again today. No matter how many times I see it, I love the Showa retro feel (^^). Hokoroshiya. It’s a 6-minute walk from the hotel. This restaurant accepts the Amami Islands e-Shima Gift. The tour came with a 5,000 yen electronic coupon, so I decided to use it. It’s a popular restaurant, so I made a reservation in advance. I wonder if they’ll serve me an appetizer? As for the menu… Wow! It’s cheap! They have a wide selection of island cuisine. They also have an izakaya menu. Looks delicious! A dish that’s irresistible for those who love greenery. They also have a menu for one person. As for the drink menu… I chose that. 11 dishes for 4,000 yen is a great deal (^^) Draft beer (medium) 660 yen. Unusually, it was Sapporo Black Label. This was the same as the set I ordered, so I wasn’t charged for the appetizer. Luckily . This was a 3-kind appetizer platter with tuna temari sushi. The next dish arrived! Today’s sashimi and seafood chawanmushi (Amami style). The types of sashimi were: wild amberjack, Spanish mackerel, sleeve squid, budai, and giant trevally. I think… Delicious! Super fresh! The fillets were thick and packed with ingredients. The shellfish added a nice crunch. The aroma of green onion was faint. It was a chawanmushi unlike any I’d ever had before. So delicious! I never thought green onion would go well with chawanmushi. Pork cartilage simmered in brown sugar. It ‘s time for some shochu. The cartilage was melt-in-your-mouth. It was soft and gelatinous. It had a rich, sweet and spicy flavor. The sweetness of the brown sugar reduced the gravy of the pork fat. The overall finish was gentle and mellow. A three-piece fried dish platter. Green onion seafood tempura! Deep-fried shiburi. Deep-fried tiger prawn. A three-piece set of green onion seafood tempura. I’ve been wanting to try this. Apparently, Amami’s natural green onion is becoming less and less every year. Delicious. The aroma of green onion is faint. And it has a deep umami flavor. And tiger prawn . Delicious. Sweet. “Shiburi” means yellowtail . It pairs well with tartar sauce. Brown sugar shochu (Rento) on the rocks, 693 yen. Made with underground water from Amami Oshima’s sacred mountain, Mt. Yuwandake. It had a mellow, gentle flavor. It had a nice aroma. It was easy to drink. Stir-fried bitter melon with miso. This is another island dish. It ‘s bitter melon. And bonito flakes. It tastes even better with bonito flakes. It harmonizes a moderate bitterness with the rich, sweet-and-sour miso. It’s simple island home cooking. It also contained island tofu. The miso flavor was also good. Deep-fried tofu made with local beans. The broth, made with bonito and kelp stock, looked delicious. Even though it was deep-fried tofu, the coating was very thin. It was melt-in-your-mouth soft. Tofu made with local beans (peanuts) is like Jimami tofu in Okinawa. It had a fragrant, simple flavor. Chicken rice. Due to availability, we had chicken rice on this day. This is my third time on Amami Oshima. Chicken rice is one of my favorite flavors. I can eat it any number of times. I also wanted to try black rice porridge. Chicken rice tastes better when mixed well (¨̮). It was delicious, as expected. We finished with egg pudding. All of this was about 4,000 yen. The island cuisine was rich in content. A variety of dishes with slightly creative variations on island cuisine. It was very delicious (^^). I had a 5,000 yen coupon, so it actually cost 243 yen. I’m back at the hotel. I ‘m back at the hotel. I’m going to sleep now. Good morning, day 3. The weather looks good again today (^^). I’m off for breakfast. I had chicken rice for breakfast. It’s delicious no matter how many times I eat it! It’s about time to check out. I’m heading to Heart Rock now. I’m catching the 11:15 flight to Yoron Island, so I only have a short time left on Amami Oshima. It’s about a 32-minute drive from here to Heart Rock. I’ve arrived at the Heart Rock parking lot. There’s no one there. Maybe it’s still early, but it looks like there’s no one there. Is this right? Where should I go? Where is the entrance to Heart Rock? Google Maps! What? I can’t see Heart Rock? Apparently it’s buried in sand and can’t be seen… Shall I go anyway? There aren’t many tourists around. I had a bad feeling about it. To get to Heart Rock, I have to go through the forest. The entrance is here. And be careful of rip currents!! So let’s go. It feels like we’re walking through the jungle. I’m afraid of snakes. We’ve arrived. What’s the name of this beach? Where is Heart Rock? It’s low tide now. I think I should be able to see some remnants. There’s no one there. Maybe the fact that I can’t see it has something to do with it. The horizon is beautiful. This will also be a good memory. Is Heart Rock somewhere around here? I should be pretty close. Is this it? It kind of looks like a heart. But it feels different. What do you think? I’ve never seen the real thing, so I don’t know. There were fish inside. In the end, we didn’t find Heart Rock ^_^;. We returned to the car. Our final stop on the trip was Cape Ayamaru Tourist Park. It was about 20 minutes to Cape Ayamaru Tourist Park. Only the cycads had withered. Perhaps it was just the time of year. We arrived. First, we arrived at a hill within the park. There were plenty of other things to enjoy. I’m sure there was a cafe there. It was closed. The soft serve ice cream machine was broken. They only open from noon. Wow. A spectacular view!! The view from here was amazing. It felt like twilight. Let’s head to the coast. We spotted a cycad jungle along the way, so let’s go. It looked like it was withering. There was something written there. It’s said that in the past, people on Amami Oshima survived during food shortages by using cycads as food. They were apparently carefully cultivated. Apparently, the plant is suited to the Amami climate and soil. It really gave off a tropical vibe. That’s an island banana. I want to try one (^^). However, the cycads are the only ones that don’t look healthy. Are they withering? We proceed, keeping an eye out for Habu snakes. We investigate why the cycads are dying. It’s because of invasive scale insects. Apparently, they eat the young leaves of the cycads. Is there any way to get rid of them? Everything around here is dead. A great photo spot. Everything’s dead. Should we turn back here? There’s a big playground. This area is a saltwater pool, so maybe you can swim there. Again, there’s no one there. Let’s go to that concrete area. You definitely can’t go barefoot. There are lots of tiny creatures. Lots of little fish, too. It feels like we’re in another world. It’s the perfect place for sunset. It blows away all our worries. There are lots of fish. It looks like a fun place to snorkel. Let’s go there next. You can really feel the life. It’s really hot, though . There seems to be a shower. There’s a play area for children upstairs. I wonder if grand golf is popular. Let’s go to the observation deck. A plane just happened to be coming. The weather was good this trip. I was able to enjoy Amami Oshima to the fullest! The train… It was a cycling style. It’s almost time to catch my plane . Next time I come, I’d like to go swimming in the saltwater pool. I’m going to return the rental car. It cost 3,231 yen for three days . It was my first time visiting Amami Oshima. The words “time surrounded by the kindness of nature and people” were perfectly apt. The blue, quiet sea and abundant nature. Island time was a relaxed time, and I felt at peace of mind . Everything about it made me feel like “a place to calm your mind.” Next time I come… I’d like to stay a little longer. Thank you for watching this far. See you in the next video!
