This morning, we decided to go on a trip to Karuizawa at short notice. Just like with Yamepi, this trip also involved a sudden trip to Karuizawa. It all started with a LINE message from my sister that morning. There was a vacancy at the hotel where we usually stay, so we decided to go on a trip to Karuizawa at short notice. I met up with my sister after work and headed to Karuizawa. I like to plan my trips carefully, but for now, I’m going to enjoy Karuizawa without any plans. I’ve been feeling unwell both physically and mentally for the past few months, and haven’t been able to go on my favorite trips, but I’m finally feeling well enough to be able to go on a trip. While I was talking with my sister, it seemed like we’d arrive in Karuizawa in no time. By the time we arrived, it was already pitch black. The days were getting shorter. We arrived safely in Karuizawa . It was getting late, so we took a taxi to the hotel. Our hotel is located on Church Street. One of my favorite things about this hotel is its great location on Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza Street. I plan to get up early tomorrow and enjoy a stroll. The entrance is also very stylish. After checking in, I headed to my room. This is the room I’ll be staying in. A quick tour of the hotel room. I stayed in a simple twin room. The bathroom was clean, too. I felt like I’d have a relaxing time. After a short rest at the hotel, it was time to head out for dinner. After about a five-minute walk, my destination came into sight. One of my Tsuruntontan, a staple on our Karuizawa trips. favorite things about the Karuizawa location is that you can enter without having to wait in line. Since I was there, I selected the “Kurumi Tare Tantan Udon,” a dish exclusive to the Karuizawa location. The delicious-looking udon arrived on the table. I’m always surprised by the size of the bowl. I hadn’t eaten much today, so I was hungry. This was exactly what I was looking for! I enjoyed a leisurely dinner. Feeling completely satisfied, I returned to the hotel. After filling up, I relaxed at the hotel. After my bath, I read until I got sleepy. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. Since I arrived early, I got up early and had breakfast. It’s very cold in Karuizawa this time of year. I walked down the almost deserted Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza Street to my destination. The air was clear and it was a very pleasant morning. I had breakfast at SAWAMURA, which opens at 7:00. It was early, but there were many people there. It was a little chilly, but I headed for a terrace seat. I finally had my SAWAMURA breakfast. The view from the terrace was amazing. I had a wonderful time from the morning. I ordered thick-cut toast and a sausage, bacon, and egg plate. My sister chose French toast. It looked great from every angle. The two fried eggs were interesting. Needless to say, the bread was delicious, too. I shared one of the fried eggs with my sister. It was a wonderful start to the day. It’s starting to warm up a little, so we’ll go for a walk. I made a detour to Asanoya to buy some bread as a souvenir for myself. I chose two loaves that I’d previously tried and found delicious. I’ve successfully added another thing to look forward to tomorrow morning. I returned to the hotel and lounged around until the last minute before checkout. It was almost time to check out. The morning light was beautiful. After checking out, I strolled around Old Karuizawa. I went to a general store on Church Street, the same street as the hotel. I found a candle that smelled of coffee. There were so many cute items, it was fun just looking around. I regretted not buying a cute baked goods keychain last time. This time, I bought this. I was tempted to buy a dish at the last minute. I wish I had… I bought a pretzel keychain. It was still shopping time. Next, I went to Donguri Republic. I was greeted by a cute Totoro. There were lots of Ghibli x Rollbahn items. This Totoro Rollbahn was especially cute. While walking, I found some cute chopstick rests. I was excited to see so many chopstick rests. I’m thinking of buying a few as a memento of my trip. Which ones should I get? I chose these two chopstick rests, which I don’t have. I’m happy to have these cute chopstick rests join my family. The cute interior is decorated for Halloween. Yamepi and Snoopy are together. Next, we head to my favorite general store. The road leading to the store is very atmospheric and lovely. I always stop by my favorite general store when I come to Karuizawa. I bought some masking tape that I fell in love with at first sight. I wasn’t sure what to have for lunch, so I decided to eat at Kawakami-an. It was lunchtime, so there was quite a line, but since I was in Karuizawa, I really wanted to eat soba noodles. I just bought a pretzel keychain. I immediately attached it to my bag, and it’s so cute!!! I’ve already decided what to order. After waiting in line for just under an hour, we finally got inside. We ordered tempura soba noodles. .After all, when you’re in Karuizawa, Kawakami-an’s soba noodles are a must. Tempura soba noodles with Yamepi. Beautiful tempura. The crispy tempura paired perfectly with the coarse salt. I hesitated, but I’m glad I waited in line. It was a fantastic lunch. I visited SAWAMURA again and bought some takeout bread. Everything looked delicious. My sister recommended the “Chocolat Dainagon.” I’m looking forward to trying that, too. After exploring Kyu-Karuizawa, I headed back to the hotel where I’d left my luggage. I had them call a taxi and headed to my next destination. This hotel is always so nice and the staff are always so kind. I took a taxi to Karuizawa Commongrounds in Nakakaruizawa. First, I went to SHOZO KARUIZAWA OVEN, which opened in July of this year. They not only sell baked goods, but also cream puffs. Since the Tokyo store has closed, I naturally bought some to take home. I bought the seasonal chestnut scones and financiers. I was so happy to be able to buy SHOZO scones and financiers after such a long time. I also went to SHOZO COFFEE, also located in Karuizawa Commongrounds. This is a staple cafe on my Karuizawa trips. Unfortunately, they didn’t have my favorite Puy d’Amour. I was relieved to find a seat available. I ordered a scone and a rare cheesecake. The sparkling sunlight filtering through the trees was soothing. The rare cheesecake had cute pistachios on the edge. The sunlight filtering through the trees reflected on the table was beautiful, and I stared at it for a while. The expansive greenery filling the window was also soothing. I’ll stick the shop card in my travel notebook. Our Karuizawa trip was decided at short notice, but I’m so glad I decided to go. I’m also grateful to my sister for inviting me. We each opened the books we’d brought with us and enjoyed some reading time. We were able to forget about everything in Tokyo and spend some peaceful time together. I bought a book as a souvenir at the Karuizawa Bookstore located next door. Lately, I’ve been into buying books at bookstores when I travel. I’m happy to have found such a wonderful book this time as well. I’d always wanted to visit Karuizawa Iburu. The staff offered us tastings and samples, so we were able to try a variety of items. I bought olive oil, and my sister bought dashi stock. Leaving Karuizawa Commongrounds, we walked about 10 minutes to our next destination. Our destination was in sight. We went to “TSURUYA,” a local supermarket popular for its original products. Once again, my sister and I stocked up on a lot of stuff. After a short 20-minute walk, we headed for Nakakaruizawa Station. Before we knew it, the sun was setting. We arrived safely at Nakakaruizawa Station. Trains run infrequently, so it’s recommended to check the schedule in advance. We returned to Karuizawa Station. We went to the outlet mall right next to the station. We shopped there until our return Shinkansen train. Since I’m directionally challenged, my sister took me around the outlet mall. We had a fateful encounter at IITTALA, where we ended up making a purchase. The illuminations were so beautiful it almost felt like the holiday season. We got into the Christmas spirit early. Our fun trip to Karuizawa is drawing to a close. After seeing everything, we relaxed at Starbucks until our Shinkansen train. Glad there were seats available. It was a chilly night in Karuizawa, so I ordered a hot chamomile tea latte. This customization is caffeine-free and delicious, and I think it’ll become a staple. I’m so glad I bought the pretzel keychain. It’s about time to head to the station and board the Shinkansen. For dinner, we ordered takeout kamameshi from Oginoya. It looked delicious. It’s been a while since I’ve had rice, since we rarely get a chance to eat it on our trip to Karuizawa. It was a whirlwind, but it was a wonderful two-day trip packed with all our favorite things. Bonus: Introducing souvenirs from our Karuizawa trip. The table is so cute, I’m so happy. First, the financiers and scones we bought at SHOZO KARUIZAWA OVEN. I bought a chestnut scone, and exchanged one for each of the plain ones my sister bought. Next up is masking tape I bought at coriss, a general store in the former Karuizawa area. It’ s a French sweets masking tape from mt x isabelle Boinot. It’s so cute, it’ll be a great addition to my notebook and planner time. Next up is an Arabia Moomin mug I bought at the outlet. I was lucky to get the pattern I wanted at 30% off. The Musk Rat design has joined my growing collection of mugs. I love it so much I can’t wait to use it. Next up are chopstick rests I bought at Yuzen, a chopstick and chopstick rest shop. This time I chose turnip and takoyaki chopstick rests. It’s becoming a tradition for me to buy chopstick rests as mementos of my trips. The takoyaki one has a toothpick. Next up is a pretzel keychain I bought at yoito on Church Street. I posted about it last time I didn’t buy it, so I’m glad I was able to buy it this time. Next up is Karuizawa Iburu olive oil. It has a smoky flavor and can be used in a variety of dishes. I’d like to try making peperoncino using this olive oil. Next up is Megumi Hirai’s “I Can Hear Deliciousness,” which I bought at Karuizawa Bookstore. Like chopstick rests, I’m into buying books that match my mood when I travel. I’m happy to have found another wonderful book this time. Next up is bread from Asanoya. I selected the tomato and mozzarella cheese bread, which I had enjoyed last time, and the maple walnut bread, which I always buy. Finally, I bought bread from SAWAMURA. My sister recommended the Chocolat Dainagon. Apparently, the baguette dough is filled with dainagon and chocolate chips. It’s nice to have something to look forward to even after the trip is over. Next up is a purchase from TSURUYA, which I always look forward to. Whenever I go to TSURUYA, I always review my vlog to decide what to buy, so I’ll keep a record of it for myself this time as well. One of my recommendations is this fruit cheese sandwich. I bought it last time and became completely hooked. All flavors except the pineapple and plain were sold out, so I bought the pineapple this time. I also love the oyaki filled with ingredients and buy them every time. I especially love the Shichimi Nozawana oyaki, which has a slight spiciness. Next up is mushroom chowder, another item I buy every time. It’s delicious with lots of ingredients and is a great breakfast dish. It’s a seasoning for rice that I especially crave in the coming season. It’s even more delicious if you add some mushrooms.
