Nakazato Koujin When Gokurakuin Yokobo Hōin, the second son of Sōei (the tenth son of Date Uemune, the 14th head of the Date clan), was welcomed as chief priest of Yasaka Shrine,
his procession was guarded by vanguard and rear guard units, much like a daimyo’s retinue. At the festival, a historical tableau reenacting this procession is performed. Currently, the roles of “front guard and rear guard” are alternated annually between Okinobamamura (present-day Furukawa Inaba) and Nakazatomura (Furukawa Nakazato). This year, the rear guard will lead the procession. The procession features spearmen brandishing feathered spears, a group impersonating the abbot of Gokurakuin Temple’s Yokobo Hoin, and yakko performers portrayed by guest stars the “Taikaku Brothers” parading through the streets. Along the route, the spearmen also perform a spear-passing ritual. After the drum and conch shell signal, the handover of the feathered spear begins.

建立延暦二十三年（804年）の大崎市にある八坂神社に伝わる行事です。
伊達家14代植宗の第10子・宗栄の第2子極楽院横坊法印が、別当（神主）として迎えられるにあたり、周囲を大名行列のように「先陣・後陳」が警護にあたったと言われています。
稚児の殿様をお護りする行列であったことから，「大名行列」と称されるようになり、今では「おおさき古川秋まつり」でその姿の再現を見ることができます。
沖稲葉村（現在の古川稲葉）を「先陣」、中里村（古川中里）を「後陳」と定め、それぞれの役目を担っています。
お祭りとしての大名行列は、「先陣」「後陳」が、年毎に交代しながら務めます。
今年は、中里村（古川中里）の「後陳」です。
大名行列は、江戸時代後期・寛政2年（1790年）に創業した「橋平酒造店」の歴史ある建物を改装して誕生した商業施設、「食の蔵 醸室」前から、「古川宿」の中心であった七日町を通り、台町、（旧）駅前大通を練り歩きます。
竹駒神社の初午大祭の様な派手さが無いのは、多賀城よりも以前に名生館官衙が造営され、玉造郡の政治的、軍事的中心を担って来た古くからの「官」の街だから、少し上品なのかな？
