古い町並み散歩#13|津和野城の城下町|山陰の小京都|島根県鹿足郡津和野町|令和の時代に残る懐かしき風景

Thank you for watching. This is manpuku from Occhii-ch. For this walk through the old townscape, I’ll be exploring the castle town of Tsuwano Town, Kanoashi District, Shimane Prefecture, known as “San’in’s Little Kyoto. ” The town center , the castle town of Tsuwano Castle, was developed as a castle town around Tsuwano Castle in the early Edo period and is now designated as a nationally designated traditional buildings preservation district. Tsuwano Town’s beautiful streetscape, as well as its handed-down traditional events, natural scenery, and the activities of its people, things, and events, have been registered as a Japan Heritage Site in the “Tsuwano Then and Now: Walking Through 100 Views.” Known as a Japan Heritage Town, the townscape offers a glimpse into the culture of the past, with buildings, historic sites, narrow alleys, and more, allowing visitors to experience the gradual passage of time. Today, I’ll be taking a stroll through Tsuwano Castle Town. The main town was once a merchant town. White-walled storehouses remain along the street, and stately mansions with lattice windows and Sekishu roof tiles line the streets. There are also many quaint, long-established businesses scattered around, including sake breweries and pharmacies. The Tsuwano Town Japan Heritage Center at the entrance to Honmachi Street displays the “100 Views of Tsuwano,” which served as the basis for the Japan Heritage designation. We recommend learning about the charms of Tsuwano Town, a Japan Heritage site, before enjoying a stroll around town. Honmachi Street ends here. The white walls of the former Tonomachi Street Domain School and the former residence of a chief retainer, both designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government, continue along the cobblestone street. The Gothic-style Tsuwano Catholic Church is particularly eye-catching. It is a symbol of the town, built in memory of the hidden Christians who were sent from Nagasaki and later martyred at Otome Pass. Yorokan Domain School was a domain school of the Tsuwano domain, founded in 1786 by the 8th lord of the Tsuwano domain, Kamei Norikata, in Shimonakajima Horiuchi (near the rear of present-day Tsuwano Elementary School). Renowned for producing many talented individuals, including Mori Ogai (a literary giant and military surgeon general), many of whom later became famous throughout the country, this domain school is a favorite destination for those who studied here. Our stroll through the castle town streets ends here, so we’ll visit Taikodani Inari Shrine. [Taikodani Inari Shrine First Torii] Beyond the roughly 1,000 torii gates that lead from the approach south of Tonomachi Street, the vibrant vermilion-lacquered Taikodani Inari Shrine appears. Built in 1773, this ancient shrine will celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2023. In addition to granting wishes, the shrine is also worshipped as a god of good fortune, protection from evil, and business prosperity, and is bustling with visitors over the first three days of the year, attracting approximately 250,000 people annually. [Taikodani Inari Shrine Second Torii Gate] [Taikodani Inari Shrine Third Torii Gate] We walk 300 meters through a tunnel of 1,000 torii gates. [Taikodani Inari Shrine Shinmon Gate ] [Taikodani Inari Shrine Motomiya (formerly Kumano Shrine)] Now, let’s pay our respects. [Taikodani Inari Shrine Main Hall] Today, we took a walk around Tsuwano Castle Town. What did you think? We’d be happy if you left a comment with your impressions. That’s all for today. Please come and see us again next time.
