【東京散歩】行ったことある方も、改めて訪れてみて欲しい場所|東京駅・皇居・丸の内 Walking Tour of Tokyo, Japan

Early on a weekend morning, the area around Tokyo Station has a calm atmosphere, with a classical and elegant streetscape. A beautiful, tree-lined street stretching approximately 1.2 km toward Yurakucho . It seems you can order Starbucks products via mobile. I’ll try it later. It’s surprisingly quiet and spacious, unlike anything in the city center. Many “Imperial Palace Runners” arrived early in the morning. A long line stretched toward the Imperial Palace. I later learned that this line was for a guided tour of the Imperial Palace. I mistakenly thought it was waiting for the Imperial Palace to open, and ended up waiting for about 20 minutes. The guided tour has a capacity of 300 people. If you’re interested in a tour, I recommend arriving early. Since I wanted to explore freely, I headed to Otemon Gate, a five-minute walk away. Entry is available from 9:00 AM without reservations. I was surprised by how few Japanese people there were. It felt like I was the only Japanese person among a crowd of foreign tourists. Otemon Gate: I was awed by its imposing structure and sheer size. Built in 1607, this historic structure is a historic landmark where many shoguns have passed through. – Doshin Bansho – One of the original guard posts of Edo Castle . – Hyakunin Bansho – A guard post where 100 musketeers took turns on duty. Surrounded by nature, this unmanned rest area with a toilet is perfect for a break during your stroll. We head to the remains of Edo Castle. – Shiomizaka – Named after the ocean view from the middle of the slope when Edo Castle was first built. – Tenshudai (Edo Castle Ruins) – Edo Castle was destroyed in the Meireki Fire of 1657. This area once housed the magnificent cityscape of Edo . – Fujimi Tamon – A tenement-style defensive facility built atop the castle’s stone walls. Mount Fuji could once be viewed from here, and it was also used as a sniper platform. Modern buildings and Japanese gardens blend together. It’s quiet and brimming with nature, making it hard to believe it’s in the city center. I didn’t realize this charm when I visited here on a school trip years ago. Revisiting it after all this time, I discovered and enjoyed it in a new way. – Marunouchi Building – A super high-rise complex with 37 floors above ground and 4 floors below ground, housing a variety of shops, from luxury brands to casual general stores. The observation deck on the 35th floor offers a panoramic view of the Imperial Palace from the large windows. The open rest area on the 5th floor was relaxing and refreshing. – KITTE – KITTE Garden, a rooftop garden on a large commercial facility operated by Japan Post, is a spectacular spot with a panoramic view of Tokyo Station.
