Gifu Japan Hidden Gems | Mino 美濃 🇯🇵 Gujo Hachiman 郡上八幡 🚃 Japan travel VLOG
Hi guys! We are on a road trip to explore Gifu Japan in summer. We arrived in Mino town, 1.5hrs drive from Chubu airport. Loving the cosy atmosphere of this 150 years old house. It’s so hot this summer. Time for an iced matcha latte! What a pretty cup! Just across the cafe is a 70years old Japanese paper shop. Mrs is so excited with this shop as it sells Washi paper goods. Mino-Washi is one of the top 3 Washi producers in Japan. Loving how beautiful all the designs are. Kosaka Sake Shop Trees rising out makes the Mino townscape so charming. Yamada House Gallery Mino townscape is lined with houses with Udatsu. Different wealthy families have unique Udatsu designs. Udatsu refers to fireproof walls built on both ends of a roof. Udatsu are used to prevent fires from spreading. We are mesmerised by the different Udatsu designs. It felt like we had the whole Mino town to ourselves. Suehirodo Mino Monaka Ice Cream was founded since 1954.
Comes in flavours like Vanilla, Azuki, & Matcha. Must try famous Udatsu croquette. Yummy and only 130yen! Tonight’s hotel stay is at Fairfield by Marriott Gifu Mino. The hotel lobby is so inviting and feels so cosy. We can use this space freely to have our meals and drinks. Free coffee! Yay! 🤩 ☕ Free tea bags and even miso soup. There’s a Family Mart nearby so we bought back
more goodies and ate in hotel lobby. The room is comfortable and clean. The next Fairfield hotel we stayed had this same layout too. Loving the stay here and we had a restful night. Went for a walk along the Nagara River the next morning. Feeling the Japanese summer vibe! We can see Fairfield Marriott Hotel from Mino Bridge. Kawaminato Lighthouse. A wooden river lighthouse
dating back to Edo period and is still operational. Ogurayama Castle ruins Heading up to this observatory. Let’s go up and check out the views! Worth the climb and seeing this beautiful panoramic vista. Mino Bridge can be viewed from here. The other side is a bird’s eye view of Mino town. We really enjoyed our stay here! The station and the trains operated for 90 years (1911 to 1999). These Taisho period trains scream nostalgia!
So well preserved! The “National” brand brought back many memories. Feels like we just travelled back in time. Nagaragawa Railway Leaving Mino, driving up north towards Gujo Hachiman,
we stopped by a sunflower field. We were looking for a place to eat a Gifu specialty,
Ayu Sweetfish. 😳 We were wondering what’s moving 😳 We had no idea what we ordered from the menu & we ended up having loads of fish in different styles, sweet, salty, sour, spicy. “It’s moving!” This meal is quite an experience and we enjoyed it. Driving up to Gujo Hachiman next. One of the highlights of Gujo Hachiman! Gujo Hachiman is often called Japan’s “Water City”. Charming water town with Ghibli feels. The water is so clear here that there are Koi fish. Funny to see all of the Koi fish swimming against the current. You can buy fish food (100yen) to feed the Koi fish. Spirited Away feels! Source of Gujo’s water system since ancient times. As the sun sets, it’s like walking into a Ghibli world. Lovely atmosphere with people relaxing by the water. One of the best ramen we ever ate! 🍜⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hakata noodles, special pork bone broth,
Chicken with fragrant local Gujo Miso. The river scene transformed by nightfall ✨✨ So magical! The Gujo Odori Festival has a 400 years history. We were fortunate to be in Gujo Hachiman
at the right time for this summer dance festival. Held every summer in Gujo Gifu, the festival lasts for 32 nights. During the four days of Obon in mid-August (August 13-16),
dances continue all night. Gujo Odori is always performed live by a small group of singers and musicians sitting in a small float located in the center. We had a great time soaking in the atmosphere of Gujo Odori. This is only the first 2 days of our Gifu trip and we got to experience a unique part of Japan where old traditions are still kept alive. We hope to show more of our Gifu trip in the next few vlogs. Thank you for watching 😊
Hi guys! We are exploring the charming town of Mino which is lined with Udatsu and famous for their Washi. There’s the former Meitetsu Mino Station that has well preserved trains screaming nostalgia perfect for train otakus. Gujo Hachiman which is known as Japan’s “Water City” has such beautiful clean waterways with some Ghibli vibes. Sometimes called the Little Kyoto of Gifu. Thankful to have experienced the energy of the yearly Gujo Odori Festival at the right time. Both very unique towns in Japan where old traditions are kept alive!
The next vlog, we travel to one of the most beautiful villages in Japan!

Beautifully done!
So relaxing ❤❤ Beautiful VLOG
I love this town most, where my Japnese friend was born here.
Yo i'm not from Gujo but am from Gifu and am super picky but i want to mention that Gujo is my fav place in Gifu, proudly. The thing about festivals / religious ceremonies in Japan in general – you can watch them all, but to participate, a lot of them are exclusive to either men and maybe locals. But Gujo Odori don't care less about who you are – literally everyone joins the circle and comes together to have good times and good times only – regardless of your age, nationality, whatever. As long as you behave. So don't be shy and find your fav dancer in the crowd, then watch their move and jump in for fun.
Beautifully captured and edited!
Me and my wife live in Gifu and we visit Gujo Hachiman very often in different seasons.
You have really captured the essence and ambience well with this vlog.
Thank you for sharing your video.
