Walking Through Nishi-Maizuru: From Naval Port History to Castle Town Streets

I set out on a journey to Kansai to visit my family home in Kobe. Along the way, I planned to stop by several towns as I traveled west, and on the return trip, I intend to visit other places that catch my interest before heading back to the Tokyo area.

From Higashi-Maizuru Station, I traveled to the neighboring Nishi-Maizuru Station. It seems that both stations along the Maizuru Line have a similar number of passengers. The area around Higashi-Maizuru developed as a naval port, while the surroundings of Nishi-Maizuru grew as a castle town—each with its own distinct history.

Just a short walk from Nishi-Maizuru Station, there’s an impressive shopping arcade stretching over 500 meters. I spent some time walking around that area. Since it was a Monday, there were very few people out, but the arcade still carried a sense of its former liveliness and charm.
