Today I’m in front of Kanazawa Station in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Today, I plan to run from here to Higashi Chaya District, then around Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Garden before returning to Kanazawa Station. I’m ready to get started. Today’s course starts from Kanazawa Station, goes around Higashi Chaya District, then visits Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Garden, passes through Omicho Market, and returns to Kanazawa Station for a total of 7km. It’s 6:30 AM now. The morning sun is refreshing. The quaint merchant houses create a typical Kanazawa landscape. Higashi Chaya District. A building preservation district measuring approximately 130 meters north to south and 180 meters east to west. Many townhouses remain, built from the time Chayamachi opened in the Edo period to the early Meiji period. It’s early in the morning, so they’re closed, but there are cafes and general stores lining the street. Shiratori Road. A walking path that runs from under the Ishikawa Gate of Kanazawa Castle toward the Otebori moat. Apparently, during the Edo period, this was the Shiratori moat, the outer moat of Kanazawa Castle. We climb the steep slope leading to Kenrokuen and Kanazawa Castle. Kenrokuen. A garden built by the Kaga domain on the periphery of Kanazawa Castle during the Edo period. It’s one of Japan’s three most famous gardens, along with Korakuen in Okayama City and Kairakuen in Mito City. It boasts the oldest fountain still standing in Japan. I turn back to head towards Kanazawa Castle. Ishikawa Gate. A castle gate connecting Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen. It was once called Karatemon and apparently served as a rear gate. Kanazawa Castle Ruins. This was the castle residence of the Maeda clan, lords of the Kaga domain during the Edo period. After the Meiji Restoration, military facilities were located here, but from 1949 to 1995 after World War II, Kanazawa University was located here. It is now maintained as Kanazawa Castle Park. Head down the slope toward the city. On the left is not a river, but the outer moat of Kanazawa Castle. Omicho Market. A market located in the center of Kanazawa City. It is lined with over 180 stores, including seafood retailers and restaurants. Apparently, it was the dining hall of the Kaga domain during the Edo period. It opens from 7:30. (It’s 7am now. What a shame.) Let’s do our best in disaster recovery. Ishikawa. Arrived at Kanazawa Station. Please like and subscribe to the channel.
