美しすぎる港町・函館|夜景・大沼公園・五稜郭・海鮮グルメを巡る旅
This time, I’m traveling to Hakodate for 3 nights and 4 days. I’m departing from Chubu Centrair International Airport (Centrair). Since I arrived early, I headed to the Sky Deck. Leaving for Hakodate! I could see the sunset above the clouds. Japan’s largest cruise ship, the Asuka II, was docked near the hotel. I wonder if I’ll be able to board it someday… Since my flight was delayed, I ate at a restaurant near the hotel. I started with a beer to thank myself for the day’s hard work . The appetizers were delicious! I love salted squid! The crab and salmon roe combination was also excellent. I toasted with some sake! The small omakase seafood bowl came with miso soup . The seafood was fresh and delicious! ☺ The hotel I stayed at this time was the Tokyu Stay Hakodate Asaichi Akari-no-Yu. There’s an ice cream specialty store on the first floor. The elevator requires a key card to select your floor. On the top floor, there’s a large hot spring bath with an open-air bath, Akari-no-Yu. My room was a standard twin room, fully equipped with a BALMUDA electric kettle, microwave, air purifier, washer/dryer, shoe dryer, Sony large-screen TV, and complimentary drinks in the 17th-floor lounge. A nice view of the port! Hakodateyama Hotel, which can be seen from the room, is conveniently located near the station. We rent a car and head to Onuma Quasi-National Park. Even in Gifu’s hot and humid September, Hakodate is cool and comfortable. The pleasure boat has gone beyond. We take the island hopping route (about an hour) . The view of Onuma continues beyond Koraku Bridge . We cross the bridge and our journey into Onuma deepens. The majestic view of Onuma Park seen through the trees. The refreshing greenery makes you want to take a deep breath. We couldn’t cross, but the Nishi-Oshima Bridge is picturesque. After the surface of Onuma, enveloped in deep green , we decide to take a pleasure boat. My wife points to a small blooming water lily. I’m soothed by the leisurely floating swan boat. The sight of the pleasure boat gliding across the water’s surface is soothing . The quietly blooming water lilies appear again. We head for the next bridge and leisurely make our way along the lakeside. The next bridge comes into view . We take in the view from Ukishima Bridge . We take a moment to gaze at the bridge spanning Lake Tsuma. We cross Hinode Bridge and continue our stroll. The view of Onuma Park is picturesque no matter where you look. We can almost see it through the gaps in the clouds! A lake terrace floating on the waters of Lake Onuma atop Mount Komagatake . Lunch at a stylish restaurant near Kogetsu Bridge on the shores of Lake Onuma . The nostalgic open-reel deck, a TRIODE vacuum tube amp, created a wonderful atmosphere. Lake Onuma could be seen from the window. The appetizer’s beautiful dressing was amazing! The meat was so tender! Every bite was satisfying. The sauce was so delicious you’ll want to eat every last drop. This is a famous restaurant! Apparently, you can enjoy a 40-minute lunch and teatime lake cruise. A guide we met by chance showed us some great spots to see Mount Komagatake. We were about halfway through the island tour, and I was busy taking photos. Oh, that mushroom! The vibrant green of the water was captivating. The trees were reflected like a mirror. Mount Komagatake seen from across the bridge. A memorable view . The lights scattered on the lake’s surface sparkled. ✨ We circled the island tour course at Onuma Park and returned to the starting point. Mount Komagatake can also be seen from here! We set sail on a pleasure boat cruise, feeling the breeze of Onuma Park ! The view from the sightseeing boat is completely different. The majestic Mount Komagatake looms over us from the boat. The clouds are a bit disappointing, though . The boat glides under the bridge, gliding across the lake. We gazed upon the bridge we’d just walked across from the water, waving at each other! The 30-minute tour included Onuma Dango, a specialty of Onuma. We bought some “Anto Soy Sauce” ( sweet bean paste and soy sauce). Once we started eating, we couldn’t stop! We arrived at Mt. Hakodate . This time, instead of taking the ropeway, we took a taxi . We arrived at Mt. Hakodate around 4 PM to see the night view. Normally, we take the ropeway up, but it tends to get crowded in the evening. We could see Goryokaku Tower. That’s the green island . We could also see Mount Komagatake, which we’d seen from Onuma Quasi-National Park! The plane landing at Hakodate Airport. The wait for the night view felt incredibly long. It was windy and cold that day! A million-dollar night view. The night view of Mt. Hakodate is crowded, so it’s best to get there early . On our way back, we took the ropeway down. It was simply amazing! The night view from the ropeway was beautiful, and we waited about 30 minutes. We went to “Hakodate Shio Ramen Shinano,” recommended by the hotel staff. After visiting Mt. Hakodate, we waited about an hour here . Of course, beer is the perfect match! The soy sauce dispenser is shaped like an owl! The soup is crystal clear. The savory flavor slowly spreads, and I was blown away! It was light yet rich, and I couldn’t stop eating! ☺ It’s rare to find such melt-in-your-mouth pork! The sauce was delicious, brimming with juicy meat! With both our stomachs and hearts satisfied, it was the perfect way to end the day. We had breakfast at “Uni Murakami,” located right next to the hotel. So luxurious… the additive-free raw sea urchin bowl was exquisite! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal… a breakfast of all things raw sea urchin. Unfortunately, it was cloudy today, with rain forecast for the afternoon. Our next destination was the slopes of Hakodate and the Red Brick Warehouse. We travel by streetcar. We look out the window at the Hakodate cityscape. We press the stop button like on a bus. The moment we pass another streetcar coming in the opposite direction, the car stops on the tracks. This is the streetcar! Arriving at Suehirocho Station, we’re grateful to be able to use our transportation IC card! Mount Hakodate is visible directly ahead . The view of the city and ocean unfolds at the end of the slope. A beautiful view of Hachimanzaka from a high vantage point. The narrow, unnamed slope toward the Motomachi church complex is also a typical Hakodate scene. We see the historic Hakodate Orthodox Church. The Catholic Motomachi Church is visible . The bus stop , located on the church grounds overlooking the city and ocean , seems like it would be difficult to relocate it… A light rain and a quiet moment at the Red Brick Warehouse . Inside the Red Brick Warehouse, a bustling space lined with shops. It’s raining, so we’ll have lunch a little early. Inside the historic Hakodate Beer Hall, you can enjoy local beer delivered directly from the factory. The piping hot Genghis Khan is delicious with Hakodate beer ! The refreshing sausages go well with beer. It started to rain quite heavily, so we headed to Goryokaku Tower. The view of Goryokaku enveloped in the gentle rain is centered in the Hakodate Magistrate’s Office Tower, which was restored and opened to the public in 2010. In the center is a model of Goryokaku inside the tower. The bronze statue of Hijikata Toshizo. The view of the Tsugaru Strait side seen from Goryokaku Tower. Mt. Hakodate is also amazing. The clouds have descended on the first floor. Yesterday’s fatigue and the rain mean that’s all for today… I’ll relax at the hotel… In the rain, we had dinner at a restaurant near the hotel. There was an autograph of my beloved boxer, Naoya Inoue. I happened to get in this time, but it would probably be better to make a reservation . It looks like Go-chan’s haori coat from the morning drama “Anpan”… Thank you for your hard work today! First, we had crab. We savored fresh squid, filleted by a craftsman. Since it was cool from the rain, we warmed up some sake and had half of the filleted squid made into tempura. Crab fried rice with plenty of crab meat. I bite into a steamed hairy crab. Even though I was staying near the morning market, this was my first visit! I strolled around the market. The tanks were filled with crabs! I just strolled around, but I should have eaten something! Squids were swimming on boats! The morning market was incredibly lively. The Hakodate Morning Market Square was quite lively . The food court at the Hakodate Morning Market Square. The view from my hotel room! Mount Hakodate feels so close yet so far away . The Hakodate City Seikan Ferry Memorial Museum: The Mashu Maru is moored, preserved, and open to the public at the former Hakodate No. 2 Quay. The squid monument at Squid Square . The HAKODATE monument, donated and installed to the city in September 2025. Mount Hakodate, bathed in sunlight, is a sight that stops you in your tracks. Finally, it’s time to head home after a fun trip. Mount Fuji quietly appears, piercing the clouds. I’m back at Centrair! I’m back. Hakodate was so much fun… On our way to Hakodate! An elegant ship in the harbor. The magnificent view from Hotel Komagatake, where we stayed for three nights. The sea of lights, the tram running through the night streets of Hakodate. The hilly roads and cityscape . The historic warehouses. A panoramic view of the star-shaped Goryokaku Fort . The vibrant morning market. The colorful scenery of the trip, even on a rainy afternoon. The bustling morning market. The spectacular view from the sky. Plenty of delicious memories. Please also check out this video . Subscribe to our channel and wait for our next trip!
