【6泊7日宮城一周①】1泊2食9630円!源泉かけ流しの隠れ家ペンション【蔵王・白石旅】
Starting today, I’ll be driving around Miyagi Prefecture for 6 nights and 7 days. My accommodation for the first day will be Pension Hidamari in Zao Town. My starting point is Shichikashuku Town, which is on the border with Yamagata Prefecture. I head along National Route 113 and spot what looks like a roadside station, so I stop in. It’s called “Shun no Ichi Shichikashuku,” in Shichikashuku Town, Katta District, Miyagi Prefecture. While not a roadside station, it’s a complex that combines a farm shop and restaurant. From the back of the building, I can see Nametsu Otaki Falls . At about 10 meters high and 30 meters wide, its unique shape also known as “Nikai Taki,” makes it the name of the post town known as Nametsujuku. The area is home to seven post towns, including Nametsujuku, which is where the town got its name. Turning off National Route 113, I turn onto a narrow road. “What?! Isn’t this dangerous? No, this isn’t possible…” I back out and head back to National Route 113. Is this road okay? Why did they guide me down such a narrow road when there’s such a proper road? On the way, I enter Shiroishi City, and finally arrive in Zao Town! Zao Town, located at the foot of the Zao mountain range, is famous for its emerald green crater lake called Okama. We arrived at Pension Hidamari, Zao Town, Karita District, Miyagi Prefecture, our lodging for the day. The owner’s father is from Toyama, and we feel a mysterious connection to Miyagi, a place far from Toyama. The room is on the second floor, and there is a shared refrigerator and microwave in the hallway. The R4 twin room is small but neatly arranged, with a fan and hangers next to the entrance, a sink, and air conditioning. The TV is small , but there are no single rooms, so even one person can stay in a twin room . The toilet is small but clean, and it has a washlet! 間と一緒に おいしいお野菜とおいしいお酒を楽しみました。 English : The view is typical of a pension in the mountains. It seems they also do homemade smoked food . The bath is ready, so let’s go in. “Zao” and “Hirosegawa”. Today I flip over the ticket to enter “Zao” and get the bath all to myself. I was the only guest staying that day and was able to enter without any worries . Wow , what an atmosphere ! The natural hot spring water is directly from the source and the water is of a weak alkaline, iron, and gypsum-containing hydrogen sulfide spring. It is said to be effective for fatigue recovery, coldness, muscle pain, etc. It’s time for dinner. We were served in the dining room on the first floor, where the owner’s sense shines through in this space. The wood stove has a strong presence, and as you’d expect from a pension, the food was Western-style. We had ” Zao vegetable salad”, ” Yamagata mushroom ajillo”, and “potato and pumpkin gratin”. We had just one can of canned chuhai. It was my first time drinking it, and it was delicious! The lettuce and mizuna were all crisp and fresh. Zao is close to the Yamagata prefecture border, so it’s nice to use ingredients from Miyagi and Yamagata . The meat was thick and satisfying, and the flavors of the mushrooms and garlic went perfectly together! The fluffy texture of the potato and pumpkin and the bechamel sauce are delicious! “Homemade Bacon and Cabbage Soup” is a consommé-based soup, with the sweetness of the cabbage accented by the fragrant aroma of bacon. “Grilled Chicken with Basil Oil and Summer Vegetables with Lemon Sauce” is summer vegetable rice (Tsuyahime from Zao) with plenty of zucchini, eggplant, peppers, etc. The tender chicken and plump rice with the aroma of basil fill your nose. The rice has just the right amount of stickiness and a wonderful fragrance. The summer vegetables have a nice texture and are colorful. “Seasonal Fruit and Vanilla Ice Cream” is seasonal fruit, and the pear is the seasonal fruit. Everything from the appetizer to dessert was delicious. Thank you for the meal. The next morning, the view from the window was rainy but charming. I immediately went to breakfast. I sat in the same seat as yesterday. Breakfast had a homey feel. Cheese toast omelette and salad soup yogurt . A combination of cheese and mushrooms on crispy toast. I felt a little luxurious from the morning. The omelette was Spanish-style with potatoes and other ingredients, and was filling. The soup was a gentle consommé soup. I think the jam was pear? It was a very satisfying breakfast from the morning. Thank you for the meal. Thank you for your hospitality. It was a wonderful pension filled with the owner’s thoughts . Today, on the second day, I headed towards Shiroishi city via National Route 457. Shiroishi city is also known as the gateway to Zao and as the castle town of Shiroishi Castle. I did a little shopping at Yamazawa, a local supermarket. The reason I came to Shiroishi city today was to eat Shiroishi’s specialties. This is the place. The parking lot is spacious. “Shiroishi Umen” in Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture. “Yamabukitei” is a much more impressive store than I imagined. The interior is a very tasteful setting, renovated from a late Meiji-era merchant’s house. The origins of Shiraishi Onmen go back to the early Edo period. Suzuki Ajiemon made oil-free noodles for his father, who had a weak stomach. After eating them, his father’s health improved. The feudal lord at the time praised the kindness shown to his father, so the noodles were named “Onmen” (warm noodles) and produced as a specialty of Shiraishi. I thought they were called “Onmen” because they were warm noodles, but “Kokoro-warming noodles” sounds great. I ordered a simple “Kake Umen” ( hot udon). I waited for a while . The “Kake Umen” (850 yen) is a simple dish of warm udon noodles topped with kamaboko (fish paste) and mitsuba (Japanese parsley). The distinctive short noodles are soft and delicious, and the golden-colored soup has a clear taste . As the name suggests, Shiraishi Onmen has a gentle flavor. The udon was placed in front of the register. Thank you for the meal! After this, I headed towards Sendai and drove along National Route 4 .
