【ホテル探訪】天空に泊まる贅沢体験!!福岡天神の新ラグジュアリーホテル「ONE FUKUOKA HOTEL」

Hello everyone, this is Okada, an architect on vacation. 🌞 This time, I’m in Fukuoka, the gateway to Kyushu. Fukuoka is a city rich in delicious cuisine , typified by Hakata ramen, motsunabe, and street food culture . Foodie fun is one of the main reasons to visit. Fukuoka Airport is just a few minutes by subway from the city center. The airport and the city are surprisingly close, making accessibility a major draw. Today, I’ll be visiting the Tenjin area, located in the heart of Fukuoka. It’s a place where new culture and urban energy intersect, truly making it the heart of Fukuoka. I’m looking forward to enjoying a special stay in this city. Before we begin our hotel tour, if you haven’t already, please subscribe and join us on this journey. Let ‘s get started! Beyond the bustle of the city, you’ll find the Tenjin area’s new landmark, “ONE FUKUOKA BLDG.” Opened in April 2025, “ONE FUKUOKA HOTEL,” located on the top floor of the building, features large windows in every room, offering stunning views overlooking the Tenjin area. Each room offers a different experience, from sunrise to night view. I can’t wait to discover what special experience awaits me here. Let ‘s go inside. Walking down a hallway with impressive latticework walls, I see the entrance to the hotel. Just before that is THE CAFE, a hotel-run establishment with comfortable terrace seating, a relaxing space where all sorts of people gather. Going further inside, I find myself at the elevator hall leading to the hotel floors. While simple, the combination of warm wood grain and gold creates a sophisticated atmosphere, heightening anticipation for my stay. Now, let’s head to the 19th floor, where reception is located. Exiting the elevator and walking down the hallway, I arrive at the reception area. At the front of the hallway is a spacious space centered around a fireplace , welcoming guests with various purposes . Lounge chairs are lined up around the fireplace, and the softly framed timber ceiling adds an extra warmth to the space. The interior design was handled by Hiroshi Nakamura of NAP Architects. As the name “Tenjin” (Tenjin) comes from Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, the design evokes the image of people gathering and interacting, and is intended to be a “creative intersection.” The space aims to be a high-quality lifestyle hotel. Next to the fireplace is the reception and bar counter. The pendant lighting, studded with round glass , is also striking. Further inside is “THE KITCHEN,” a restaurant that gives the feeling of dining in a kitchen. I’m looking forward to having dinner there tonight. Another special spot unique to this hotel is the rooftop cafe and bar, “The Roof.” Feel the sky and breeze while watching the sunset over Hakata Bay and the night view. The large water basin next to the seating is modeled after the “water mirror” in which Tenjin, Sugawara no Michizane, is said to have reflected his image. The interplay of water and light promises to create a luxurious experience. Next, let’s head to the guest room area. Passing through the door next to the lounge, you’ll find a private zone only accessible to guests. The first thing that greets you is the atrium space with its grand staircase, the symbol of ONE FUKUOKA HOTEL . The works on display in this atrium are by contemporary artist Noritaka Tatehana. Tatehana is known as an artist who embodies modernity while carrying the traditional Japanese culture on his shoulders . To embody the theme of “Tenjin-sama,” the keyword for this hotel design, he created a piece specifically for this location, with themes of nature worship and prayer. Around 80 pieces by Tatehana are scattered throughout the hotel, including the atrium, welcoming visitors. Then, descending to the lower floors, you’ll find the open -ceiling “GARDEN” space, enveloped in sunlight filtering through the trees and a gentle breeze. “TERRACE.” This green space offers a sense of tranquility in the city. It’s a special moment, evoking feelings of worship as one looks up at the sky, just like the devotion to Tenjin-sama . Next to the atrium is another special space: the “LIBRARY LOUNGE,” offering a wide variety of books, including Fukuoka-related books, to enhance the enjoyment of your trip . Here, you can help yourself to self-service coffee, tea, ice cream, and light snacks. In the evenings, they even offer alcoholic beverages like wine and champagne. A truly luxurious experience. Now, let’s head to our guest rooms. Walking down the corridor facing the courtyard, we can see a unique design feature of this hotel: the guest rooms have windows facing the corridor. Normally, guest rooms don’t have windows on the corridor to ensure privacy. The room we’re staying in this time is the “SIGNATURE SUITE,” one of eight room types, including the TENJIN CORNER SUITE and THE ONE FUKUOKA SUITE. The interior of the “KING” apartment is 36 sq m, with an additional 7 sq m terrace. Its unique layout separates the study space on the hallway side and the bedroom space at the back. While the hallway side is usually dark and difficult to reach, this window creates a comfortable space surrounded by light and greenery. “The guest room design is based on the concept of ‘Japanese modern,’ and Japanese elements are incorporated throughout. Particularly striking is the zigzag pattern on the headboard. This is a sacred motif reminiscent of the ‘shide’ paper streamers seen on sacred trees at shrines. There are also designs reminiscent of ‘Tenjin-sama’ hidden throughout the hotel, such as on the walls of the corridors . And beyond the full-height windows that give a sense of openness, there is a terrace space. From here, you can enjoy a view that is unique to this hotel. It is a luxurious time to relax while overlooking the Fukuoka cityscape. Next, let’s take a look at the washroom space next to the bedroom. This has a sloped, ribbed ceiling, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a veranda. The washbasin is done in muted colors, and is simple yet has a high-quality design. And next to the washbasin, There is a bathroom area. It is a compact space with a grey stone-like base, but it also has a bathtub, and it looks like you can spend some elegant time looking at the view from the window. Furthermore, at the very back is the toilet area. The study, bedroom, and washroom can all be separated by sliding doors, creating a sense of openness and security, which is another charm unique to this room. Finally, let’s take a look at the minibar corner next to the entrance. In the drawers, there are local snacks and drip coffee that are unique to Fukuoka. The drawer below is a refrigerator, and it is stocked with alcoholic drinks such as beer, as well as a variety of soft drinks. All of this is inclusive and can be enjoyed freely. So, since we have come all the way here, we decided to relax and enjoy it on the terrace space. It looks like we can also enjoy the night view at night. Next, we will introduce the area that the hotel kindly showed us around, We would like to introduce the “TENJIN CORNER TERRACE SUITE.” This special suite features a spacious 43㎡ terrace. Its greatest appeal is its open design , with a large window in the corner leading to the terrace . When you actually step out onto the terrace, you will be surprised at how spacious it is, something you would never expect in an urban hotel, and you can enjoy an experience that can only be had here. The bathroom and washroom are spacious, as expected of a suite. From the bathroom, you can relax while admiring the expansive view across the terrace. This hotel also boasts a large public bath and sauna, a feature I personally find extremely appealing . The changing room features bold, botanical-patterned wallpaper, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the space. Entering the large public bath, a large window also offers a refreshing view unique to high-rise floors. Bathing while gazing at the ever-changing sky is sure to soothe your travel fatigue. This is the sauna space. A compact, circular layout houses a high-temperature dry sauna. The cold bath and outdoor bathing area are also well-appointed, allowing you to enjoy a relaxing, soothing experience while gazing at the night view and ocean. After refreshing in the sauna, I recommend relaxing with wine and snacks in the LIBRARY LOUNGE until dinner time. In the evening, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset from “THE ROOF.” These are special moments that can only be experienced at this hotel. Since we’re here, we’ll have one more drink before dinner while watching the sunset. Then, for tonight’s dinner, we’ll dine at “THE KITCHEN,” an all-day dining restaurant where you can feel as if you’re dining in a kitchen. The seating surrounds the open kitchen, creating a lively atmosphere. The menu features small Japanese and Western dishes, cold appetizers, and dishes showcasing seasonal ingredients. We’ll enjoy natural wine with our dinner. Enjoying the food in this lively space while taking in the Fukuoka night view was a special experience unique to traveling. We’ll also have breakfast at “THE KITCHEN,” just like dinner. The open, airy atmosphere is also pleasant. Breakfast is a luxurious set that includes a buffet and a choice of main dish. Cold appetizers include smoked salmon, tuna confit, and marinated vegetables. Colorful salads and desserts include cut fruit and yogurt. There are more than six types of delicious bread on display. The restaurant offers dishes like whey pork bacon, Aso pork salsiccia, and scrabble eggs , as well as onion soup and Massaman curry. In addition to soft drinks, they also offer smoothies and champagne for breakfast. For the main course, I chose the avocado and salmon marinated open sandwich. Each dish was carefully prepared and delicious, making for a luxurious breakfast. So, what did you think of ONE FUKUOKA HOTEL? The ingenious design details in the guest rooms and lounge, along with the Tenjin-sama motifs throughout, create a truly unique stay. 今回は、福岡・天神に誕生した「ONE FUKUOKA HOTEL」を訪れました。かつてカルチャーの拠点だった旧福岡ビルの記憶を継ぎ、2025年に開業した新たなランドマークホテル。
内装デザインは中村拓志氏（NAP建築設計事務所）が担当。“天神さま”をテーマに、アーティスト舘鼻則孝氏の作品を含む80点以上のアートが館内を彩ります。
全室から天神の街並みや博多湾を一望でき、大浴場やサウナ、ルーフトップバーも完備。建築とアート、そして街のエネルギーを体感できる特別なホテルです。
