今回は山口県柳井市にあります白壁の町並みの紹介の前編です。
This is the first episode introducing the white-walled townscape in Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

山口県柳井市は、伝統的な「白壁の町並み」や、柳井のシンボルである「金魚ちょうちん」で知らてます。
Yanai City in Yamaguchi Prefecture is known for its traditional “white-walled townscape” and its symbol, the “goldfish lantern.”

白壁の町並みにあります甘露醤油資料館（佐川醤油蔵）とやない西蔵を見学しました。
We visited the Kanro Soy Sauce Museum (Sagawa Soy Sauce Brewery) and Yanai Nishikura, both located in the white-walled townscape.

Kanro Soy Sauce Museum (Sagawa Soy Sauce Brewery)

200年前、柳井で生まれた甘露醤油。二度仕込むという独特の製法で、時の藩主吉川公にも愛されたそうです。
Kanro soy sauce was born in Yanai 200 years ago. It is made using a unique method that involves brewing twice, and was said to have been loved by the feudal lord of the time, Lord Yoshikawa.

江戸時代から使われ続けている醤油蔵の一部を資料館として公開しており、製造過程や当時の道具などを見学することもできます。
Part of the soy sauce brewery, which has been in use since the Edo period, is open to the public as a museum, where you can see the manufacturing process and the tools used at the time.
やない西蔵
やない西蔵は、大正時代末期に建築された木造平屋建・白壁土蔵造りの建物で、昭和55年頃までは醤油蔵として使用されていましたが、平成10年に所有者よりご寄贈を受け、改修工事の後、平成13年4月にギャラリー及び体験工房として複合型観光施設に生まれ変わりました。
Yanai Nishikura is a wooden, single-story, white-walled storehouse built at the end of the Taisho period. It was used as a soy sauce storehouse until around 1980, but was donated by the owner in 1998. After renovation work, it was reborn as a multi-purpose tourist facility with a gallery and workshop in April 2001.
金魚ちょうちん製作体験や柳井縞機織体験などができるほか、ギャラリーや休憩所の機能も備えています。
In addition to being able to experience making goldfish lanterns and Yanai striped weaving, the facility also functions as a gallery and rest area.
