Harimacho-suji Street runs north-south through the Old Settlement area of Kobe.
The street was named after the merchants from Harima Province (present-day western Hyogo Prefecture) who settled in the area during the opening of the port in the Meiji Period (1868-1912).

Dori” runs east-west and “suji” runs north-south.
In this way of calling streets unique to Kobe and Osaka, Harimacho-suji is an area with a particularly strong historical flavor.

Surrounding the area are buildings that blend the exotic with the modern, such as the “Old Settlement 38” and the “Kobe Asahi Building.
