From Boat to Table – 九十九里伝統の味「漁師料理ばんや」/ Kujukuri Seafood Tradition

[Music] Hello everyone. Today I’ll introduce you to BA, the most famous seafood restaurant in Kujakuri, Chiba. From Tokyo or Chiba, take the JR SoU line or Kayo line. Transfer at Owami station to the Sotobo line, then change to the Toane line at Toane Station. From there, it’s about 22 minutes on the Kuukuri bus and a 6-minute walk from Fudo bus stop. It’s located right near Fodto Beach. In summer, this area is a hot spot for beachgoers, so even the nearby 7-Eleven has showers. The owner of BA is actually a fisherman himself. He wakes up at 3:00 a.m. every day to catch fish on his own boat. That’s why you’ll see the sign outside proudly saying Fisherman’s Restaurant. Thanks to his direct supply, you can enjoy seafood that’s incredibly fresh, something you won’t find at ordinary restaurants. Many celebrities have visited here, and it has over 2,000 reviews on Google Maps. The menu offers a wide variety. Local sashimi, tempora, fried dishes, set meals, and more. Today, I ordered two dishes featuring sardines. [Music] Looking around, you’ll notice the walls filled with celebrity photos and autographs. Since Kujukuri is also a surfing hot spot, even Takuya Kimura has visited here. This photo of a fishing boat says traditional Kuju Kuri Aguri Sen. The captain is the owner of this restaurant. Now, let’s start with the sardine sushi. [Music] The sardine itself is rich and fatty [Music] and the taste is wow delicious. The green onion and ginger garnish add a refreshing balance. It goes perfectly with beer. [Music] And finally, roasted dried sardines have arrived. This was the dish I really wanted to end with. Why? Because kujukuri has thrived on sardine fishing since the Edeto period. In those days, dried sardines were sent to Ado as fertilizer, bringing great prosperity to the town. These dried sardines capture the essence of Kuchukori’s sun, wind, and air, the very flavor of this land. Simple, yet it connects you to the history of the Edeto era. [Music] And the taste is it’s fragrant, rich, and absolutely delicious. Oh, it smells the sardines are incredibly rich. Wa! I bit into the head and the fat burst out. You can even eat the head. The bittersweet flavor of the inards and the richness of the meat are perfectly balanced. Incredible. This is truly the taste of Kuja. [Music] For the return trip, I took the highway bus from Togani station to Tokyo. It only took a little over an hour to reach Yayu Terminal. I’m so glad I came to Ba. The fish here caught by a fisherman carrying on Kujukuri’s traditions is truly one of a kind. And drinking beer while savoring 400 years of history, nothing beats that. Thanks for watching and see you in the next video.
