Uryu Town, Hokkaido September 2025 Uryu Numa Wetland Gate Park ~ Wetland Terrace Uryu Town, Hokkaido September 2025 Uryu Numa Wetland Climbing Gate Park ~ Wetland Terrace Thank you for watching. We set off from the trailhead , Uryu Numa Wetland Gate Park, to visit Uryu Numa Wetland. First, we submit a mountain entry form at the management building. [07:27] After submitting the mountain entry form, we head for the “Valley No. 1 Suspension Bridge.” We check the trail map. You can also get the “Uryu Numa Wetland Climbing Guide” at the management building . Camping is also available at the gate park. On this day, no tents were set up. Minami Shokanso seems to accommodate 70 people. We begin by following a well-maintained forest path. The weather is beautiful, perfect for hiking. We cross a bridge over the river. The bridge is narrow, making for a thrilling experience . From this point on, the trail starts to climb. The morning sun on September 6, 2025, is pleasant. Uryu Numa Wetland is a mountainous high-altitude wetland located in Uryu Town, Uryu District, Sorachi Prefecture, Hokkaido. It is part of Shokanbetsu-Teuri-Yagishiri Quasi-National Park. It is located on the eastern slope of Mt. Shokanbetsu, approximately 850 meters above sea level. Located at an altitude of 900 meters, this wetland stretches across a plateau, spanning 4km east to west and 2km north to south. There are over 170 ponds scattered throughout the wetland, and it was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland in 2005. Continuing on, we come across the Keikoku Daiichi Suspension Bridge, about 0.8km from Gate Park. We can see the Keikoku Daiichi Suspension Bridge. [07:36] We arrive at the Keikoku Daiichi Suspension Bridge, beneath which the Penkepetan River flows. The gangplank (the walking surface) is made of a mesh, allowing you to see below. Once across the bridge, this is the boundary point where the path changes to a more “proper hiking trail.” Next, we head for Hakuryu Falls. We are finally on the hiking trail, and there is a cliff on the right. Proceed carefully and cross a small stream. There is a fairly large river. We crossed safely and saw flowers (hosta?) in bloom. Continue on. Continue on the paved road again to the left. If you want to see the waterfall from below, turn right. Up ahead , there is a point where you can look down on Hakuryu Falls. Continue on the right here . Hakuryu Falls. We are back on the original hiking trail. There is a rest area where you can see Hakuryu Falls. Next, we head for the “Keikoku Dai-ni Suspension Bridge”. [07:59] Arrive at the “Keikoku Dai-ni Suspension Bridge”. It is about 1.5 km from Gate Park. We cross the suspension bridge. It is 1.5 km to the entrance to the marshland. Halfway from Gate Park , the climb gets tougher. To the left of the dragonfly is a cliff. The rocky area around here is called “Kenryu-zaka” and has a steep incline with an elevation change of about 200m. A well-maintained hiking trail makes the climb easier, which is a blessing . The elevation has risen considerably . Continuing on, the view opens up. I saw a waterfall, though I don’t know the name. Continuing on, the elevation has risen again. Nearby on the left is the “Penkepetan River.” From here, the area becomes covered with bamboo grass . Once here, the steep climb disappears. Just a short distance away, we reach the entrance to the Uryu Numa Marsh. Only 350m left until the entrance to the marsh . We arrive at the shoe-washing area. [08:55] Arriving at the marsh entrance terrace . Next, we head for the “Marsh Terrace.” The mountain in front of us is Minami-Shokan-dake (1,296m above sea level). The mountain in the back right: Shokanbetsu-dake (1,492m above sea level) is surrounded by a vast marshland. The Uryu Marsh is also known as “Hokkaido’s Oze.” A boardwalk that goes all the way around the Uryu Marsh is well maintained. The Siberian Gentiana Marsh is in sight . The Marsh Terrace is in sight. [09:05] Arrived at the Marsh Terrace. This concludes the Uryu Marsh Climbing Gate Park – Marsh Terrace section. Continue to the Uryu Marsh 1-Walk Around section. Thank you for watching until the end.
