【神奈川/小田原】小田原駅直結!「ミナカ小田原」で楽しむ、食べ歩き&足湯の癒し旅

Hello, this is Yuzu Log. Today, we visited Minaka Odawara, a commercial complex in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It’s directly connected to Odawara Station, making it very accessible. A perfect spot to stop by between sightseeing. You can enjoy rooftop foot baths and street food featuring local specialties—it’s a popular destination. It’s a great place for a quick, relaxing “mini trip.” This time, we explored the Shinshiro-Shitamachi area on the 1st to 3rd floors,
and the Observation Foot Bath Garden on the 14th floor. Let’s start from “Kinjirō Plaza” on the 3rd floor. It’s filled with light bites, perfect for trying a little bit of everything. The first place we stopped by was “Odawara Kissho”. Their signature item, Fried Horse Mackerel, has won multiple gold awards at the Karaage Grand Prix. They serve it freshly fried at the shop, so you can enjoy it piping hot. There are various flavors available, with the salted one being the most popular… But today, we chose the “Aosa” seaweed flavor, exclusive to the Odawara main store. It was so tender, we could eat the whole fish—from head to tail. As our first dish, it was both impactful and deeply satisfying. Next, we visited “Sousaku Neridokoro Kagosei.” It’s a specialty store for fried kamaboko, run by a long-established fish cake maker. Their showcase is lined with freshly fried items. Among them, the must-try is the “Odawara Roll.” The Odawara Roll is a unique dish made with fish paste and bread. It’s a limited item you can only buy here. We started with the cheese flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Though an unusual combo of bread and fish cake, the flavors matched perfectly. We couldn’t resist ordering the mentaiko mayo flavor too. This one had a spicy kick that kept us coming back for more. Both were freshly fried and perfect for snacking while walking. They were more filling than they looked—just right for a light bite. After the savory snacks, we went for a simple sweet treat. We stopped by “Fukura Suzume.” It’s a local wagashi shop known for their freshly grilled dango. The name “Fukura Suzume” refers to a plump winter sparrow, symbolizing abundance and good fortune. They grill it fresh after you order, so it’s crispy on the outside and chewy inside. This time, we went with the classic Mitarashi Dango. The sweet and salty sauce coats the dango nicely, offering a gentle flavor. It was a comforting sweet treat that filled us up just right. It’s also a rare monaka specialty shop nationwide—perfect for souvenirs too. Another sweet treat, but this one is a bit unique. Next up, we headed to “BunBun Plus.” This popular bakery originated in Atsugi, Kanagawa, and has a location here in Minaka Odawara. We tried their signature “Seppuku Lantern Anpan.” A thin bread filled generously with chunky red bean paste and a thick slab of butter. The balance of the salty butter and sweet beans is addictive. Its striking appearance also makes it a popular gift item. Highly recommended for those who love sweet breads. Now, let’s dive into some proper meals. We headed to the dining area on the 1st and 2nd floors. Among the many restaurants, we picked two that really reflect the local Odawara flavor. First stop: “Odawara Minato Shokudo” on the 1st floor. It’s a seafood diner featuring fresh local fish straight from Odawara Port. We ordered the “Tempura & Sashimi Set” and the “Local Seafood Bowl.” We also added a large, crispy Fried Horse Mackerel. Everything was fresh and generously portioned—very satisfying. It’s a great spot to casually enjoy local seafood right inside Minaka. If you have time, hop one stop on the JR Tokaido Line to Hayakawa Station… From there, it’s about a 5-minute walk to Odawara Port for an even more local seafood experience. It’s the kind of place that gives you peace of mind for a quick meal on your journey. Next, we stopped by “Odawara Oden Honten” on the 2nd floor. Odawara Oden is a local specialty made with fish cakes crafted by local producers, served in a refined bonito and kelp broth. Toppings include mustard, plum miso, and wasabi soy sauce—flavors unique to Odawara. We ordered the lunch-only “Beef Tendon Bowl Lunch.” The beef tendon was tender and savory-sweet—perfect over rice. The set comes with five oden items, and you can choose your favorites. The fish cakes had deep umami, creating a warm and comforting taste. Seating is limited and turnover is slow, so visiting with extra time is recommended. Our final stop was the “Foot Bath Garden” on the 14th floor of Minaka Odawara. Surprisingly, you can enjoy a free foot bath using natural hot spring water from Hakone Yumoto. The best way to reach it is via the direct elevator located at the back right of Kinjiro Plaza on the 3rd floor. Other elevators can be used too, but they may be crowded due to hotel guests from Tenseien. While soaking your feet, you get a panoramic view of Odawara Castle and Sagami Bay. It was a perfect scenic spot to end the trip. The water is a gentle alkaline simple hot spring. It’s said to help with fatigue and coldness, offering a soothing experience. No towel? No worries—you can purchase one on-site, so feel free to come empty-handed. It’s a great spot to wind down and relax from your feet up. How did you enjoy this “little special detour” at Minaka Odawara? The open atmosphere and the essence of the local area truly filled both heart and stomach. From the warmth of the people to the carefully crafted products, we could feel Odawara’s charm. When visiting Odawara, be sure to check out Minaka Odawara too. There are still so many charming places and shops we couldn’t cover this time. If any spot caught your eye or if there’s a place you want to visit, let us know in the comments!
