Kurokawa Onsen Senomoto Kogen Hotel Hello! This is Hozuki. This travelogue is about a 4-night, 5-day trip to Fukuoka and Kumamoto (plus Oita)! This time, I’ll be introducing the Kurokawa Onsen Senomoto Kogen Hotel in Kumamoto Prefecture, where I stayed for the third night (the night before was at Hotel Resol Trinity Hakata). *For the fourth night, I also stayed at the Yukyo no Hibiki Yusai in Kurokawa Onsen! Senomoto Kogen Hotel is located in Aso County, Kumamoto Prefecture, just under a two-hour drive from Fukuoka. There are also buses to Kurokawa Onsen from Fukuoka and Kumamoto, and a 10-minute walk or free shuttle service is available from the Senomoto bus stop! Senomoto Kogen Hotel is a wonderful inn, with both excellent food and baths! And above all, Kurokawa Onsen! The water quality is top-notch, and the view from the open-air bath is magnificent! The private bath, available for just 1,000 yen for 50 minutes, is also fantastic! You’re sure to enjoy Kurokawa Onsen to the fullest! Dinner was packed with Kyushu delicacies! We had roast beef made with Kyushu-grown Kuroge Wagyu beef, amberjack from the Bungo Channel, Kumamoto Akagyu beef hamburger steak , and even motsu nabe (offal hotpot)! Fresh fish shabu-shabu, fillet steak , and Kumamoto ramen for the finale! And all-you-can-drink alcohol! I even discovered my favorite shochu! Breakfast was packed with vegetables and Kyushu specialties ! I especially recommend the Akagyu beef shank soup and mentaiko rice! The price was under 20,000 yen per person for a Saturday stay in the middle of Obon! Depending on the date and plan, it starts from 13,000 yen per person! (Coupon used: as of October 2025) This time, I hope to share the charms of Kurokawa Onsen Senomoto Kogen Hotel and Kumamoto Prefecture. Thank you for your continued support! We checked out of Hotel Resol Trinity Hakata and headed to Fukuoka Airport Station! This time, we rented a car! Yaris will be our companion for the 2 nights and 3 days! Nice to meet you! Now, off to Kumamoto! First, to the restaurant we wanted to visit! (You can see it on the right) Maki no Udon, one of the Fukuoka udon chains! Hmm, what should I get (it was pretty crowded!) They’ve really replenished the spring onions! Lol. The regular-sized meat and burdock udon is this big! It’s amazing… the sweet and spicy meat and crunchy burdock are so tasty! I’ll put lots of spring onions on top! This udon is delicious! Soft and chewy. My partner’s yam udon was also light and delicious! The udon just kept piling up, and it was a huge portion! Now, off to Kumamoto! We got on the highway ! Heading to the Oita Expressway ! And getting off at Hita IC! Speaking of Hita, Hita yakisoba is a must-try! (No time to eat…) About an hour from Hita IC… we arrived at Daikanbo in Aso National Park! You can see the Aso caldera, but it’s cloudy! The weather forecast says it will clear up soon! While I was reading an explanation about the Aso Caldera , it started raining heavily… but it’s clearing up! Yay! What a beautiful view! And this is the Aso Caldera! What a view! The caldera (collapsed land) created by an eruption is amazing! The view of a town inside the caldera, and these mountains. I’m so glad I came to Daikanbo! It was the time of year when the rice fields are so beautiful, and I was moved! I’d like to come again in a different season. It was wonderful! Then, by the time I was heading back, it was raining heavily… it was amazing!! But as I got closer to the hotel, the sun started to shine a little, and I did a little shopping at the Senomoto Rest House near the inn, and by the time I arrived at the inn, the blue sky was in sight! Yay. It took just under 30 minutes from Daikanbo to arrive at the inn! Today’s inn is Kurokawa Onsen Senomoto Kogen Hotel! I’m looking forward to it , as I’ve heard the buffet and hot springs are amazing! Now, it’s time to check in! Pillows, yukatas, and amenities are here. There are plenty of amenities! Cosmetics too! And here are the special sizes for yukata. Extra-large ones can be a pain in situations like this, haha . Oh, there’s a convenience store, too! The cashier looks like it’s at the front desk. They have a wide selection of drinks! They even have Aso yogurt! Oh, they even have some kind of craft sour! There’s also a lot of Kumamon! Haha, but first, let’s head to our room ! This time, we had a room on the third floor! We walked through a chic hallway… and the key was an old-fashioned type. Let’s go inside! Main building , Japanese-Western room. Wow, a super bright Japanese-Western room! The bed is lovely! And the view from the room… of the pool and the Aso-Senomoto Plateau! Wonderful! The 4.5 tatami Japanese-style room space is nice! The Kumamon-branded Aso Health Tea is also great! There’s also a Sharp humidifier/air purifier, and across from the Japanese-style room are towel sets, pillows, and yukatas. The towel sets come with bags, which is nice! Yukatas are available in medium and large sizes! And the air conditioning can be individually adjusted. The beds have a special wooden base, which is nice! There was a sink in the space behind the bed, and a kettle and pitcher in the space below. The refrigerator was standard size! The hair dryer was Panasonic. Next was the toilet. It had a nice washlet. *By the way, this room didn’t have a bath! I really like this type of bed! It’s a wonderful room! I ‘ll take a short rest in my room and then explore the hotel and head to the hot springs! Welcome drinks are available from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM! You can also enjoy Kumamoto’s famous brown sugar donut sticks! I think I’ll start with oolong tea! My partner had water. Let’s toast for now lol. The brown sugar donut sticks were sweet, crunchy, and delicious! This inn has won so many awards! Oh, it seems you can go out onto the balcony! Wow, what a magnificent view! By the way, there’s an open-air bath at the back of this garden! Now let’s head to the hot springs! First, let’s go to the open-air bath on the first floor that we saw earlier! It’s open from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM! Wow. Natural hot springs. That’s great. Apparently, you can borrow umbrellas if it rains! Such a lovely garden! …But you can’t see the hot springs (lol). The open-air bath is quite far back! lol . The building is in sight! The view looks amazing! This is the natural hot spring, the spectacular Hana-no-yu! Is it “Hana-no-yu” and not “Hana-no-yu”? lol. Now, let’s enjoy the hot springs! Hana-no-yu is a wonderful hot spring surrounded by the natural beauty of Aso! It’s a hot spring with an incredible sense of openness! The view of the prairie from the open-air bath is amazing, and the neutral simple hot spring water is soft and soothing to the touch. In the evening, you can enjoy Kurokawa Onsen while relaxing in the reclining bath, watching the sunset over the prairie. At night, the lights are dimmed, so you can see the starry sky from the open-air bath! Back in the main building, we head to the large bath on the first basement floor! This is another natural hot spring, “Senshin-no-yu”! It’s open from 5:30 AM to midnight! Let’s enjoy this one too! This bath has a huge glass window that lets you enjoy the view! The ceiling is so high that it gives off an amazing sense of openness! With a beautiful view of greenery all around, you can fully enjoy the hot springs that are gentle on the skin. It was very relaxing to bathe in this bath, which overlooks the five peaks of Mt. Aso, while watching the sunset! After a short rest in the room, it was time for the long-awaited dinner! Woohoo! It was already very popular even though it was the moment they opened! (It’s Obon after all…) Wow! The all-you-can-drink option for adults looked delicious! The laughter section was unreserved! There were still plenty of seats available. I chose a seat by the window with a great view! I grabbed a tray and a plate and headed out! I’ll start with an empty spot! First, I’ll have the cold chawanmushi! Amberjack and tuna from the Bungo Channel! Let’s eat! This is the salad corner! First, I’ll have a mixed salad, and some tomatoes! Then broccoli. There’s corn and mixed beans! There are four types of dressing. I think I’ll go with onion. Carpaccio of fresh fish from the Bungo Channel! I have to try it! This is the hotel’s carefully selected meat sushi! Yay! I’ll have it with lemon steak sauce! And Kyushu Kuroge Wagyu roast beef! Also with lemon steak sauce. Next is the hot corner. Shrimp chili! I think I’ll have the braised pork belly next to it! Here is cream pasta and pasta with meat sauce. This is a mini red beef hamburger steak. I’ll have it with their special sauce. Next is mapo tofu. Hmm. They say it goes well with alcohol! I think I’ll have some. Here are pork buns and shrimp dumplings! And here is meatloaf. Let’s have some. I’ll also have some simmered local vegetables! Tempura! First, I’ll have shrimp tempura, and then maybe some eggplant tempura from Kumamoto! I’ll also have Oita’s specialty, chicken tempura! I’m also interested in the Akagyu beef croquettes, but I’ll save that for later… It’s Takana rice, a specialty of Aso! Let’s have some. Then, I head to the all-you-can-drink adult section! Wow. They have a ton of shochu! So fun! That said, I’ll start with a highball! I’ll also have the beef fillet steak, which is limited to one plate per person! My partner looks like this. It’s healthy with lots of vegetables! Hozuki’s Choice – meat, sashimi, and a ton of Kumamoto specialties – first of all, the beef fillet steak, which is limited to one plate! Good! Then, salad and cold chawanmushi. Looks delicious. Amberjack and tuna from the Bungo Channel! Looks delicious! Takana rice, a specialty of Kumamoto. It’s sure to be delicious. Shrimp chili, braised pork belly, roast beef, and meat sushi! Hearty! Meatloaf, mapo tofu, and Akagyu beef hamburger steak! Tempura and simmered local vegetables! I’d like to eat like this! First off… a toast to a delicious highball after a bath! Refreshing! Veggie salad first! Fresh broccoli! Fillet before it gets cold! Soft! Garlic is great too! Let’s try the meat! Roast beef is super tender! Delicious! Meat sushi! This is a lighter meat and delicious! Shrimp chili! The shrimp is plump and super plump! The braised pork belly is also well-cooked and falls apart. A great snack ! It goes perfectly with the highball! Awesome! And the view outside is lovely! The greenery is beautiful… and the tuna! Nicely fatty! Ah, so delicious. So happy. Next up is amberjack from the Bungo Channel! Let’s eat! The texture is amazing! The flavor is amazing! Delicious! And this Akagyu beef hamburger steak is super yummy! It’s so delicious, I definitely want to eat it again! I told my partner how delicious it was and he stole it from me lol. Then there’s the simmered local vegetables. The flavor is so refreshing… The meatloaf is also delicious! It’s wrapped in a pie! Oita’s specialty, chicken tempura. I love this! It goes well with alcohol! It goes well with highballs. Delicious! The mapo tofu is spicy! The Sichuan peppercorns are also effective! The takana rice is delicious! The crisp takana is delicious! The fresh fish carpaccio is also good! It goes well with alcohol! The eggplant tempura is also delicious with a creamy texture! The shrimp tempura is always tasty. The salt goes well with it! The cold chawanmushi has wakame seaweed in it and it’s delicious! This is a really delicious buffet! Of course I’ll have seconds! Next up is the shabu-shabu corner with seasonal fresh fish! The staff will cook it for you! Thank you! We’ll enjoy it with green onions, grated maple leaves, and ponzu sauce! Next up is Kumamoto’s specialty! I’ll have the spicy lotus root! I’ll also have the Akaushi beef croquette that I was interested in earlier! I’ll have it with the sauce. I ‘ll have the roast beef again. I’ll also have the special pork shabu-shabu! Thank you for that too! This one is with sesame sauce ! Next is motsunabe! This also looks delicious! I’ll have it with spicy miso topping! I wonder what I should have next (fun) Since I’m here, let’s have some shochu! I’m curious about the top-ranked shochu on the far right! It’s called “DAIYAME.” Apparently the recommended highball is a good choice! Hozuki’s Choice – hotpots and snacks – first up is fresh fish shabu-shabu! This is absolutely delicious. And the special pork shabu-shabu! This is also absolutely delicious. Then roast beef, Akaushi beef croquette, and spicy lotus root! The motsunabe is a light soy sauce type. This is also good! And the gold medal winning shochu. The lychee aroma makes it look really delicious! I’d like to dine like this! Ah, fresh fish shabu-shabu is great! The meat melts in your mouth and the flavor is delicious! It pairs perfectly with the refreshing shochu! In fact, this shochu is delicious! I’ve finally found a shochu I’m hooked on for the first time in a while ! I love it! And when I told my partner about it, he snatched it up, lol. Special pork shabu-shabu! The sesame and delicious fat go so well together… Spicy lotus root! Spicy mustard and crunchy lotus root! This also paired perfectly with the shochu! The motsunabe is light, but the fat is fluffy and delicious! The broth, with its infused flavor, is also amazing! And the roast beef. Delicious. The red beef croquette is also irresistible with the flavor of the potatoes and beef! So I finished it again the second time! Delicious! I’m still going for seconds! First, I’ll tell my partner where DAIYAME is located, lol . I think I’ll try the “Hakutake” next time. The blue bottle is lovely. I thought it was water to dilute it, but it was hot water lol. I’ll try adding more ice to see if that helps…lol. The Akagyu beef hamburger was delicious! I’ll have the simmered local vegetables again ! The eggplant tempura was delicious! I ‘ll have another carpaccio! I think I’ll try the shrimp dumplings! I might have some sashimi too! Hozuki’s Choice – my third time trying snacks – shrimp dumplings, hamburger steak, two kinds of eggplant, delicious amberjack and tuna seafood, and the fresh fish carpaccio again. And I had the Shiratake water?wari! I’d like to enjoy it like this! The fresh fish carpaccio is perfect as a snack! The portion is good too! Shiratake is a clear rice shochu! It has no strong flavor in a good way! Ah, Kumamoto eggplant is so delicious. Eggplant is delicious whether boiled or fried. Wonderful. And the Akagyu beef hamburger was so meaty and delicious! The shrimp dumplings were also plump and delicious! And there was a beautiful sunset outside. It was just amazing! And so the third time is over! I think it’s about time to wrap it up! First, I’ll have DAIYAME again! I’m hooked! (I bought a 1.8L bottle when I got home lol) Then I’ll have Kumamoto ramen! It’s so nice to be able to eat it freshly boiled. Wow, rich soup! It looks delicious, I can’t resist it ! I’ll have bamboo shoots, quail fish, and green onions! Then it’s dessert! First, I’ll have strawberry bavarois, and there’s also chocolate cake and chocolate gateau! Here I am taking tiramisu off-screen lol And then I had pineapple! Hozuki’s choice – the finale is of course ramen and dessert! – Kumamoto ramen with quail! No doubt! Yeah, that’s a sure thing (aesthetics) , and then my favorite tiramisu and pineapple, with strawberry bavarois topped with berries! Paired with shochu, I finished off like this! Kumamoto ramen is so good! I love the pork bone base! This quail is so good. The soup is creamy and refreshing yet rich! And then I reset my mouth with pineapple. I love pineapple. I love the bitter-sweet combination! And to finish, I had bavarois. This was also delicious! So I ate it all! …But my partner recommended one more dessert! He recommended Umeda Farm soft serve ice cream! Apparently it’s really good! So, soft serve ice cream and shochu highball! It really was rich and had a very milky taste! Delicious! It went perfectly with the shochu highball! And that really wraps it up! It was a delicious buffet! Thank you for the meal! After a short rest in my room, I headed to the private open-air bath! I received the key to the private bath at the front desk and set off! This private open-air bath is a bargain at just 1,000 yen for 50 minutes! Let’s enjoy it! I unlocked the door and stepped inside, and wow, the changing room is so spacious! There are two sinks, which is convenient! Now, let’s take a look at the bath! Wow, this bath is full of hot spring minerals and looks like it must be very beneficial! For 1,000 yen for 50 minutes, it’s amazing how spacious it is! The water of the simple hot spring (hypotonic, neutral, high temperature hot spring) was soft and very gentle on the skin, warming me up! It was amazing! The other hot spring, “Gogaku,” was just as spacious and looked great! By the way, there was a beautiful starry sky outside! Finally, I took care of my stomach with some Aso yogurt drink! The local yogurt was fresh, rich, and incredibly delicious! Phew. I ate and drank a lot today! That’s all for today. Good night! Good morning! Today’s weather is… pretty cloudy! But it’s not raining, so that’s okay! After enjoying my morning bath… it’s time for the long-awaited breakfast! Woosh! Seats were unreserved again this morning! (The outside seats were full.) I grabbed a tray and a plate and headed out! The bread section. Croissants and pancakes! I think I’ll get a salad! First, I had homemade chicken ham, followed by homemade pork ham! Amazing! They also have broccoli and potato salad, but… I also had tomatoes! *They also have sweet corn and seaweed salad! They also have kiriboshi daikon radish and okara, and I think I’ll have spinach with shiraae (sweet sauce)! The simmered eggplant and shishito peppers look delicious! I also had simmered shiitake mushrooms! The rolled omelet looks delicious! I think I’ll get some grilled fish (mackerel)! Kinpira gobo (stir-fried burdock root) is good too! Perfect for breakfast. I also had Chikuzenni! I love small potatoes. It’s great to have so many vegetables in the morning! Nanbanzuke fish! It’s good! The dish next to it is vinegared chicken. Let’s have that too! The rice section. First, I’ll have grated yam! Then I ‘ll add some mentaiko! (I put in a little too much) I’ll have that with rice! Oh. There’s a smoothie! Let’s have one! This is a sour drink. I’ll have that too! My partner looks like this. A breakfast with lots of vegetables! (The soup looks delicious.) Hozuki’s Choice – A healthy breakfast with lots of vegetables – First, simmered vegetables, tomatoes, chicken, and pork ham! Rolled omelet, shiitake mushrooms, spinach with shiraae sauce, mackerel, vinegared chicken, Nanbanzuke fish, Chikuzenni, small potatoes, and kinpira gobo! The vinegar drink and smoothie are also good! I’ll have it with my mentaiko tororo rice! Veggie first, tomatoes! Mmm. Fresh. The smoothie will activate my stomach! Sweet and delicious. Wow, simmered vegetables are so good. Of course, when you think of Kyushu , you think of mentaiko! It’s irresistible. Such a luxurious breakfast. Delicious. I love spinach with Shiraae, it’s healthy and delicious. For breakfast, kinpira gobo (burdock root stir-fry) is a must! Fiber is important, too! The lotus root in Chikuzenni is so crunchy! So good. Ah… small potatoes… so creamy and delicious… I love them. Nanbanzuke (pickled vegetables) is also delicious ! It pairs perfectly with rice! So good! The shiitake mushrooms are soaked in broth and are delicious. The rolled omelet with green leaves is the best! The scent of the sea! The mackerel is also fatty and delicious♪ And the vinegared chicken! It’s a flavor that gives you energy in the morning! So good! This is pork ham. It’s healthy yet satisfying! So good! The chicken ham is moist and soft. This is also delicious! Finally, I’ll have grated mentaiko rice! Mentaiko grated yam rice is so good! So happy! Finally, a vinegar drink for a refreshing taste! I love this too! That’s it for the first time! I think I’ll finish it off next time! I’ll have the delicious boiled eggplant and bell peppers again, and maybe try the deep-fried tofu! They also have boiled tofu, but I think I’ll try something different this time. The boiled baby potatoes were delicious! This is red beef shank soup. Looks delicious! Then I had rice… and then rice…(huh?!) I’ll have one as beef curry! The rice accompaniment section is amazing! Cucumber, radish, eggplant…and whitebait directly on the rice! I had pickled mustard greens, I think, and mentaiko! These are meatballs. Let’s have some. There ‘s sausage and bacon! I had bacon! There was also scrambled eggs! I think I’ll have some pineapple for dessert! There was fruit punch and jelly! It was delicious. There were also petit choux and pudding! (I had the pudding) I have to have some French toast to finish off! Dripping with maple syrup is so blissful. I also had coffee! Hozuki’s Choice – just like the first time – delicious simmered and marinated vegetables, small potatoes, and a new deep-fried tofu! And meatballs, rice accompaniments! Bacon, French toast, and pineapple are a mysterious combination lol. And then there’s the ultimate rice dish with whitebait, pickles, and mentaiko. We also added beef curry, and paired it with Akaushi beef shank soup for a perfect style! We also had pudding! Paired with coffee, we continued eating like this! Wow , Akaushi beef shank soup is incredibly delicious! The meatballs inside are also delicious with a gentle flavor! Why is curry in the morning so delicious? It gives me energy. The deep-fried tofu is also flavorful and delicious! Pickles, mentaiko, and whitebait. Happiness is here. The meatballs are also delicious. Kids will love it! The thick bacon is delicious too. The rice accompaniments go well with mentaiko rice! (A little too salty…) Let’s move on to dessert! We’ll refresh ourselves a bit with the pineapple, and then have some pudding! The old-fashioned firm pudding is delicious! And the French toast is also delicious. Ah, what a great meal. We finished off with coffee! Phew, it was a delicious dinner and breakfast. We’ve eaten everything at Senomoto Kogen Hotel! Thank you for the meal! Now it’s time to depart! Kurokawa Onsen Senomoto Kogen Hotel was a wonderful inn! The price was 19,151 yen per person including discounts! (Coupon used, points taken into account) Even though we stayed on a Saturday in the middle of Obon, we got all-you-can-drink and a wonderful hot spring, so I think this price was a good deal! The inn was very satisfying in terms of both the food and the hot spring! The next day we went to Takachiho, which I’ve always wanted to visit! I’ll introduce this in the next video! Senomoto Kogen Hotel is a wonderful inn, with great food and baths! First of all, it’s Kurokawa Onsen! The water quality is excellent, and the view from the open-air bath is magnificent and beautiful! The private bath, available for just 1,000 yen for 50 minutes, is also amazing! You’re sure to enjoy Kurokawa Onsen to the fullest! And dinner was packed with delicious Kyushu delicacies! Fresh fish shabu-shabu, fillet steak, and Kumamoto ramen for the final course! Plus, all-you-can-drink alcohol! I even discovered my favorite shochu! Breakfast was full of vegetables and Kyushu specialties ! Akagyu beef shank soup and mentaiko rice are especially recommended! *Food, drinks, service, prices, etc. change depending on the season, so please check the official website for the latest information.
