Mid-September 2025. My family is currently working in Kitami City. We’re heading to a popular yakiniku restaurant today. Panmunjom. Kamiawa Premium Malt’s. I researched this place and it really caught my eye. Bamboo shoots, homemade kimchi, and pork tongue. Pork sashimi. Osa is the one grilling again today. Kitami yakiniku is eaten with a homemade sauce. Kitami yakiniku is seasoned with salt and pepper. Have you heard of bamboo shoots? Apparently they’re the main artery of a pig. They’re delicious. Fresh bamboo shoots are said to have a nice texture and a strong flavor. Pork innards are delicious. Pork liver. Second bowl. Delicious innards go down well with alcohol. Third bowl. We finish with the restaurant’s specialty, the eye bowl. The oxtail soup also looks delicious. The eye bowl is renowned as a must-try for finishing a meal. Is a bowl of rice topped with a fried egg really that good? I was underestimating it, but it is. The egg was perfectly soft-boiled. The sauce, above all else, was delicious. It’s a flavor I’d never be able to recreate at home. Osa, a self-proclaimed soup genius, praised it highly. I was completely satisfied until the very end. Thank you for the meal. A live music venue in Kitami. The next morning. Corgi Travel, Van Life with Corgis. Osa, Mama-chan, and Kotaro. Breakfast preparation. Breakfast is ready. Osa’s breakfast today. It’s gorgeous again this morning. Today, I’m visiting the Pearson Memorial Museum, one of Kitami’s landmarks. It’s about a 10-minute walk from where I’m staying. It’s a two-story wooden Western-style building where the American missionaries Mr. and Mrs. Pearson lived. The Pearson Memorial Museum. The Pearson Memorial Museum. The Pearsons. On the first floor, mementos of the Pearsons are on display. They accomplished the feat of publishing the Abridged Old and New Testaments, successfully preventing the establishment of brothels, and saving the lives of many women and children. The Pearson-Ginan area was designated a Hokkaido Heritage Site in 2001. While the couple was out for a walk, they watched the sun burn and sink behind the western mountains. It was this beautiful scenery that led them to live on this hill. On the second floor, there’s the Karakasa Nancho Memorial Room and the Voris Memorial Room, both exhibiting materials from sister city Elizabeth. The garden is lined with tall, majestic trees, creating a sacred, power spot. Daimaru, a confectionery shop. We bought some tea and sweets for coffee. Kotaro, who hasn’t been waiting around lately, has been refusing to wait . The seasonal chestnut pie, a flaky, buttery pastry, is filled with whole Japanese chestnuts simmered in their skins. It’s time for a break in the afternoon. Pressed to release the video, we frantically edited. Kotaro and Osa were taking a nap. Even a dog’s paw would do. Just as I thought I heard festival music, a portable shrine was parading through the city center during the Kitami Shrine Autumn Festival. Today, I visited another interesting shop in Kitami’s downtown area. Cactus Kitami. The interior had a very stylish atmosphere. Beer and appetizers. The feast began. My stir-fried bean sprouts and bamboo shoots. In addition to okonomiyaki, there are plenty of side dishes. A whimsical Caesar salad. My second bowl. Angel pork and egg. I also ordered Kitami offal mix. Thank you for the meal. Kotaro was waiting for me at the door. Sorry I didn’t bring a souvenir. A relaxing evening. Cheese for Kotaro given to me by a viewer in Kitami. The mikoshi and taiko drums at Kitami’s annual festival were a sight to behold. Local cuisine is always fun. Another fulfilling day.
