(後編)2025年夏 夫婦自転車旅 新ひだか町-えりも岬-広尾町-帯広

July 2025. This is the second part of the video of my ride from Hakodate to Obihiro. I had a fever, I even spotted a bear. Spray, spray. Bear Spray is in the rain cover of my backpack. “I didn’t realize there were bears.” Though there were many things that happened, The beauty of the Tokachi region It was a soothing trip. Hope you enjoy! July 25, 2025, Day 6 Wow, what beautiful weather! It’s cool. Entering the breakfast area through Gate 2 Breakfast save me We going to run a little over 50 kilometers today, starting at 9:30 AM. Firstly, There’s an ocean nearby, so we’ll go see it first. This is our fourth bicycle trip to Hokkaido. We are completely captivated by the charm of Hokkaido. From here, We are heading toward Cape Erimo. My iPhone controller is giving me a high temperature alert, and I can’t control it! Where is my drone? I can’t move it anymore. It’s working. My iPhone just got too hot and I can’t move it anymore. I’ll have to press the return button on the controller to return it. The neck strap broke. I just fixed it with some duct tape. My iPhone just got hot, and I was worried about the drone. The drone got lost, so I pressed the emergency button. I managed to get it done. It was there originally. The tracks are gone. Amazing view in first 2km. Warning: Gunfire Training in Progress I just saw a sign saying “Japan Self-Defense Forces Anti-Aircraft Firing Range.” They practice firing at the sky here. I can see the word “Erimo.” I can smell kelp. They dry all the kelp there, Hidaka kelp. 18km from start pit stop at Seven-Eleven Just over 30km left to Erimo Cape This road looks similar to the one on the way from Wakkanai to Cape Soya. “Grilled whelks”
Wife: “Two person please” Kombu Onsen, they even have hot springs. After crimbed a hill. My body suddenly became so heavy. I’m afraid I got… My throat is swollen and I should have a fever, so my body is… We need to keep going But my body wouldn’t listen to me, so I just coaxed them into going another 16 kilometers. Going. I’m feeling a little timid. Oh, that’s Urakawa Town! I can see it! Urakawa Town! I’m really tired, so had to take a quick break. We are hungry now, I looked at the map earlier. Well, ramen would be nice, too. I wanted some spice and naan so we decided to go for Indian curry. 6 kilometers to go. Now, we’re entering town. A traffic light, a long time no see Abandoned Urakawa Station Due to damage from high waves in 2015, the line beyond Mukawa was abandoned without restoration. It’s a pretty town. For some reason, Indian curry in Hokkaido. Nice, let’s get some nutrition with spices. Spinach and Chicken Curry A curry with a deep flavor. All finished. Thank you for the meal! Now, We’ll go shopping at Seico Mart, 6 kilometers away, then turn left and head to the hotel. Indian curry gave us power. It was delicious. This is the hotel sign where We’ll be staying tonight. 5.5 km after turning left at Yushun Village. AERU URAKAWA: You can meet horses. That means you can meet retired racehorses. Ranch on the right. and on the left If there were sheep instead of horses, This is like ew Zealand Kebau Bridge, (sounds like Kebab) You can get to Obihiro from here, but it would be a tough one over the mountains. We’re here! This appears to be a hotel primarily for horse lovers. Arrived. I’ll be able to get recover. Good morning. It’s raining today. I’m not feeling well, and I think I have a fever. I was thinking of staying here one more night. Apparently there’s a festival going on today, so the hotel is fully booked. Threre is no rental car in such country side, Carry bike on the bus are no allowed, even though deassebled and covered, and there’s no train service,
so I guess I have no choice but to go. well Let’s have breakfast and relax. Let’s go. This Breakfast is a lifesaver! Yes, it’s almost 9 a.m., but… Today, I’m driving about 100 kilometers to Hiroo, passing Cape Erimo. It’s drizzling a little, but I don’t think it’ll be too heavy. The air is so nice. Yes, well, I’m not feeling well. There’s a clinic 15 kilometers away, I’ll go there for a checkup, get some medicine, and try not to push myself too hard. I’ll take it easy and keep going. Even if I’m still not feeling well, Once I ride my bike… It’s like my body is in motivated mode. It’s a change of mood. The morning breeze is truly a reward, even though the sun isn’t out today. It’s such a refreshing morning. It’s raining, but it’s cool. Sometimes it’s a relief that there’s no sun. The shinning sun is also nice, though. Today, it’s a bit… Let the sun take a break for today Let’s go for a run. Maybe it’s because it rained this morning. Drying Kelp is hard work. Before the rain hits, they packing away all the kelp they stated dry yesterday. If it gets wet, They will have to dry it all over again.
It’s a hardwork. Thank you! This is Samani town. Samani Sweating Sweat is in the rainwear. I’ve come to the hospital. Diagnose completed. Well, 84 kilometers to go. Let’s go. I can smell the ocean. It’s magical. Mist coming off the sea. Well, I appeared that this fatigue wasn’t just my imagination. I feel strangely relieved. I can’t quite put it into words, but how can I put it? I hadn’t looked at a thermometer before because result will discourage me. I thought that, but then I went to the hospital. In fact, I feel kind of relieved by knowing the fact that I got fever and not well. It’s nice. Traffic has thinned out considerably. It feels like we’re at the very end. A 50-meter climb. It’s almost here. I said there was a climb. I haven’t climbed yet. I’m so happy. This, Garmin says, is probably an old path. Maybe they’re calculating it based on the road before the tunnel was built. I didn’t go up. Maybe they actually climbed this way a long time ago?
Oh, it says we’re still climbing. Let the car go first It’s so safe when the sidewalk is this wide. Oh, you’re right, it’s a deer running. Oh, it’s crossing the road. That’s why a lot of collisions happen… Is that fog coming from the sea? It feels like it’s rising. Coming from the sea and heading towards the mountains. What do you call this? Climbing This lonely atmosphere is lovely. heading to Cape Erimo. If you go left on the national road earlier, that is for Obihiro. The only people going to Cape Erimo are taking this route, so basically, No cars passing by at all. The road is completely empty right now. It’s starting to feel like the farthest reaches of the world. Capes are great. Capes are great. We’re going downhill. The end is pretty tough. We’ll probably go down and up again. This is a full-throttle descent. Can we take another break for a minute or two? I’m carrying around Haribo again this time. I’ll always remember this moment when I see here from an airplane in the future. I will remember that we rode bike here and had Haribo. Phew, almost there! Arrived. Cape Erimo in the fog Wow, what a spectacular view! I heard there are seals, but I don’t think they’re visible today. Let’s get going! Watch out, the brakes will work weak in the rain. The rim brakes would not working properly, seriously. We are heading towards Hiroo. It’s fortunate that it’s raining after leaving Erimo Capr The rain has stopped. Thank goodness it didn’t turn into a heavy downpour. I found a Seicomart over there. Let’s take a quick break. In Tokyo, it’s hard to find one like that.
I think it’s about 800 meters away. That’s almost a kilometer away. I don’t think you can see a convenience store with your own eyes, but Hokkaido is impressive. There’s a convenience store about 1 kilometer away. I can find it visually. Yes! I thought it was a Seicomart. But it wasn’t a Seicomart. I don’t know myself why I was so confident? Can you see it with your eyes? No, not at all. The color looks like a Seicomart, but… Well, there’s certainly no Seicomart on a quiet road like this. There’s no cars on this road at all. Yes! I misunderstood. I mistook this for a Seicomart. That’s how they store boats. Wow. Oh, there’s rails, too. Only 32 kilometers to go Hiroo. There’s a tunnel. The tunnel continues from here to Hiroo. It should be possible to get there from this direction. We’ll also take the old road to this second tunnel. We’d like to avoid tunnels if possible. So, this is the 4km tunnel, 4,941 meters long. It’s a 5km tunnel. That’s scary. Let’s go after the cars. This is my first time in a 5-kilometer tunnel. Apparently, it’s the longest tunnel in Hokkaido. I can’t see the exit at all. Wow. There’s no GPS in the tunnel, so Speed indicator stop working and the distance, indication have stopped. And it’s soaking wet inside the tunnel. It’s chilly. I think We have been in the tunnel for about eight minutes. and I still haven’t come out. I want to get out now. I’m probably going about 30 km/h right now. After 10 minutes, I finally saw the light at the end. 11 minutes in the tunnel. Long! Huh? 1? That’s the next tunnel? My mirrors are fogging up, and so are my glasses. It’s warm! Hahaha (lol) I can’t see! My glasses get fogged! Wow! It’s fogged! Completely fogged! Thank goodness, there was only one car in the tunnel. My mirrors are still fogged up. Condensation. And my lights too. No, no, no, no. Tunnels are life-threatening. It’s 21 kilometers to Hiroo. Hiroo! How many tunnel we went through so far? We’ve probably ridden through over 10 kilometers of tunnels today. The tunnel is soaked with spring water. Moekeshi— sounds cute. But thanks to the tunnel, We should be grateful it’s not an uphill climb. To be honest, most of cars pass us very gently with distance, but for some idiots, I think I’m allowed to shout *{|=”lf”3! There are very less though. We try to be visible as much as possible with lights flashing and always consider cars coming from behind no. Tunnels are scary, This is I think all cyclists concerns all over the world. So peaceful. The finish line is near. This is town. Hiroo. We’ll be staying here. We can see it! This is our lodging for the night, Toyokan. Distance traveled: 97.9 km. Estimated travel time: 5 hours and 17 minutes. We made it This hotel has a lovely Showa-era vibe. Arrived. Oh! puddle! is there a puddle in a place like this? Toyo-kan Oh, this was originally a Japanese-style room. Supposed to take shoes off here. You can see the ocean. Wow, I think I’ll be able to sleep well which I need most now. 2027/07/27 Day 8: Bear sighting Good morning Today, the light rain has almost stopped. Looks like the light rain will continue until noon. I can see the ocean in the distance. We are heading to Obihiro today. Almost Private breakfast. I love it! A warning sign that completly ignores sense of design. About 100km. Let’s go. Wife: “It’s raining!” Now, 5km proceeded. It’s so hot I took off my rain pants. The rain has stopped now. I think we’re about to enter the Tokachi region. Tokachi is definitely better.
I can really see that through the ride here. Of course, Hakodate, Muroran, and the areas south are great. However, since it’s close to Honshu, and there’s a port, so it’s developed, and there’s industry there. With a port, of course, logistics and commerce are carried out there. It’s bustling, but the further into the country side you go, the more… The scenery changes to a laid-back one, with scenes like dairy farms. I notice these differences as I ride. I can feel the changes every day. Ah, when I realize left desitance is getting shorter and shorter, I start to feel sad to leave. Two bears about 100 or 200 meters down the farm road on the left! I just saw a bear! Really, really It was the first time I’d seen one. It was on the dirt road. There were. There were two. That was Bear. They are not coming, are they? Bear… I saw a bear. We should speed up For a while. About 5 km Huh? Well, I guess I’d better have a spray bottle ready. Spray, spray. It’s in the rain cover of my backpack. I didn’t think there’d be a bear. It was so natural, so natural, I was surprised. For now, It’s better to keep running than to stop here. Right? Have bear spray ready to go. (Speaking to myself) It’s no good to assume they’re not here today. You have to keep it ready at all times. Oh no! “Not here.”
Wife: “Me too.” No good. Wife: “I saw them live.” Wife: “I’m shaking.” For now. For now, We’ve made sure to put the bear spray somewhere we can easily get it out. I already put it away in the back, but I was careless. Here is Hokkaido It’s scary to look around.
But if they are, we have no choice. Okay, so, May we please make it to Obihiro safely. We’ll arrive safely. Yes! Well, for the record, for the record. I’ll make recording for the log. I think I saw the bear about 14 or 15 kilometers from Hiroo Town. Heading towards Obihiro On the left side of the road, in the back, on what looks like a farm road. Maybe 100, 200, or 300 meters further back. There were two bears there. I later looked up the spot on Google Maps. They were in the purple area, next to the cornfield. I also reported, the sighting. ⑰ is the information I provided. I was having a debriefing with my wife, Well, I just said, “Oh, a bear, a bear!” Then, “Huh?”, the bears heard my voice and gazed at us. Both of them. I was looking, and then our eyes met. Fortunately, it was just They seemed to be taking it easy, and didn’t chase after us. So I made a sound, so I should not to make any noise. So we decided to signal with hand and fingers. A peace sign would be a bit confusing, so A three-finger signal means a bear is there. This is the signal we made. You shouldn’t shout, after thinking about it. However, if you haven’t encountered a bear, it is said that it might be a good to make sound in areas with poor visibility to let others know you’re there. The rain’s getting stronger. Taiki Town, famous as Rocket Town? My wife just bought a Seico Mart original T-shirt. I was amazed how she could quickly change to shopping mode from emergency mode. She bought one. Most people pass uas at a reasonable distance. Thank you. Everyone’s in Hokkaido is so kind. Which side you drive on, the shoulder on the left side looks like this. And the right side. there’s a mound that rises, and on the right side… The ruts have created a puddle. It’s a puddle. Water splashing everywhere. So, I was on the white line. Well, the paint had worn off. If it was a real white line, it would be slippery. As a result, I am going on this line Roadside Station, Churui. It’s pretty big. Wow. There’s a beautiful park and a JA grocery store. We’re off the main road, From here, we’ll enter a cycling road that’s also included in the recommended “Toka Petit 400” route. Toka Petit 400 is a 400km cycling course in the Tokachi area. It would be nice on a sunny day? My wife was so scared after bear sighted, she was constantly ringing bells. There, There’s a bicycle symbol here, It’s a famous cycling course in the Tokachi area. TokaPetit 400, centered around Tokachi Obihiro. Recommendations for the North and South There’s a cycling road, and this is one of those routes. I included this route this time. It’s a steep hill, but there are no cars. You can see a gap in the road (between the mountains), and that’s also uphill. Wow, that’s awesome! That is the longest climb of the day. It was worth the climb! Tokapuchi is lovely! We’d love to try again on a sunny day. No on a main road, but there’s hardly any traffic. The rain has stopped! Great! Lost and Found again This roadside station is doing quite well. Tokachi is great! Really, thinking back to the truck-filled streets of Hakodate… Compared to that, Tokachi is like paradise. Nice. It’s a ranch. On the left, you can see the Obihiro Airport control tower. Hey, there’s a JAL plane over there. Can’t you see it? There’s a line of guiding lights from there. The runway is on the left. I can’t get in. This is Obihiro Airport. I think I’ve been taking pictures of the same scenery over and over again. “Ugh! Dangerous!” We can see the city of Obihiro. Around there ..I think so.. Probably.. Should be yes.. As we approach our goal Obihiro, we have mixed feeling. 99.89km 99.99km 100km!! That one over there I think it’s one of those hotels you can see around there. We finally got there. Another 100km today. Wow, what a great road today. Today, well, it was, well, the best road of the day. There are a lot of hotels here. Here we are. 2025/07/28 Day 9 Rest day: Hot springs, Eat yakiniku, and Sleep. We have dont it! How was it? 600 km “I did it!” It’s been a while since I’ve had such delicious meat. Right now, I feel like every last bit of nutrition is being absorbed into my body. Well, I’ve basically always relied on Seico Mart’s katsudon onigiri and other dishes but Meat is the best. Thanks for watching!! Hope you enjoyed!! If you like, don’t forget to give a Thumbsup and Subscribe See you again!
