🇦🇺Nouvelle-Galles du Sud – Australie Part 8 – Tour du monde en side-car Ural

I’m leaving Menindee and heading northeast. And there, apparently, I’m going to take 150 km of dirt. It’s going to be cool. There are some good old wild boars too. Well, there you go, a first. There are even wild boars, wild pigs that get run over. Oh, incredible! Yeah, there’s plenty to eat in the area. Once again, I find a great path. Well, it’s quite bumpy because of the rain. It’s dried out and it’s slamming. But it’s not bad. Look. Ah, it’s going to be a good day today. I found the sidecar, there was frost this morning. They’re forecasting 16 degrees. That’s good. They were still going 40-50 km/h. Yeah, an emus is really stupid because as soon as it sees you, it runs in your direction when it could go somewhere else. They’re really stupid. Yeah, you have to do it. You have to do it to roll over here. Either the guy was shot because there are bullet holes in the fender, between the fender and the windows. Or they shot at the car after it was overturned. If you’re looking for spare parts for your Toyota injection Toyota CS, well, there’s one in the Australian desert. There you go. Small engine. Yeah, it can be useful. You still have guys who manage to get into a pile in straight lines. You still have to do it. Nice straight line there too. Speed, guys, speed and attention. Emus and kangaroos! Nice. Emus and kangaroos. Hey, big guy. Great. For the first time, I manage to film emus and kangaroos racing with me. Well, rather, they’re scared. And the other one, he’s looking at me. Huh, kid? Well, I left the dirt for 4 km of road to fill up with gas in a village, on a paved road. Now, I’m going back 4 5 km and I’m going to continue on another dirt road of more than 300 km. I think I’ll finish at night tonight. Come on, let’s go. And there we go, off for 328 km. Ah, it’s beautiful. So, normally, I should stop at Bourque. Yeah, I confirm because I better not mess up. Yeah, at Bourke. Come on! Here we go, my darling. Yeah, because what time is it? It’s 1 p.m. so 300 km. Go at 60 km/h because I’m going at 70 but with the breaks that makes 60. So 6 x 5 = 30 in 5 hours. Go at 6 p.m. Between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. I arrive. And since night falls at 6 p.m. Yeah, I think the sun starts to set at 6 p.m. 6:30 p.m. So that’s going to make for some great shots. Let’s go. So the Australians, they’re funny in their cars to say hello, they just lift a finger. Ouch ouch ouch! Well, 130 km of fun and now I’m taking a little break with my friends. Yeah, great dirt road, pretty smooth. Well, you have to be careful because we often change surfaces. There may be fesh-fesh, there may be corrugated iron, there may be… There are no holes but scratches from dry car tracks that when they drove when the ground was soft and wet. Uh yeah, it’s really a great road. Well, the sun, I think it’s 2 or 3 hours away from setting and now I still have 210 km to go. It’s going to be great. It’s much greener. There’s a lot more water. I saw rivers and then small lakes. That’s why the trees are tall and there are more bushes. Lots of cows. Lots of cows. But who is it? What is this thing? It’s cool, I stopped. They haven’t left yet. It must be the mother and the calf and we’ll see what they’ll do when I take off. It’s cool. Okay, I’m filling up. I still have 100, 120 kilometers left. I’m doing it because it’s still light. Great day. I’m really happy. Well, it’s quite tough sometimes. I’m gritting my teeth to avoid… So that no spokes break. And now we’ll have to start watching out for kangaroos crossing. Ah, a beautiful day. In any case, it’s the first time I’ve ridden on so many different surfaces. The color of the earth, there are all the colors. The texture too, the hardness, pebbles, rocks, gravel, sand, fesh-fesh and a bit of everything. But generally speaking, it’s pretty smooth. I’m surprised. I was expecting to come across something more technical, but there you go, that’s good. Oh well, damn, I’m back on tarmac. After 240 km. Well, I have the feeling it’s going to be like this for another 100 km. And no, the gravel road has started again. So, it’s corrugated iron. Well, another thing, I have the impression that the bike is leaning to the right. I hope I haven’t broken anything, that there isn’t a part of the chassis that has broken. Ah, fingers crossed. Ah, I really feel like I’m on the right and that the fork is normal. That the bike’s axle is leaning to the right. I had the impression that the bike was leaning to the right even though the handlebars were straight. But I understand now. Look at the axle, it’s broken there. The frame that hooks up with the basket frame where there’s the circle. Ah, great, great. Great! That’s all that was missing. [ __ ] I think I’m 1000, a little over 1000 km from Uralla. Oh dear, great, great. Well, luckily I only have 80 km left. And now, I’m going to avoid the dirt roads. I’m going to go straight to Uralla by the tarmac road. Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. Ah, it was still a beautiful day. Too bad. Too bad the frame broke. We’ll find a solution. Come on, let’s go. Incredible, I’ve found some tarmac again. Come on, 80 km. Yeah, false joy. There was only a little bit. It’s back to corrugated iron. Yeah. Okay, I’ll slow down a bit. I’m at 50 60. And I have to avoid the goats too. No, look, he’s right in front. They’re really stupid. Instead of going left, they’re going right. Kangaroos are everywhere. They’re waiting by the side of the road. Ah, I’d just have to get hit in the mouth by a kangaroo now. No, no, no, no. It’s the pink parrots. Magnificent. But there are hundreds of them. And they’re standing there like idiots beside the road. There are 48 km left and I’m back on the dirt. Ah! Yeah. Now, it’s shaking so much that I can’t speak. There, I feel like I’m back in Guyana. When I had, uh, when I had my old two-wheel drive bar and the cross had broken. And as luck would have it, I find myself in the red earth. Ah, it’s tough. Damn, it has to hold on. Come on, come on, three legs. You’ll hold on. We’ve always managed. Well, I’m back on the tarmac. Ah, but not for long, I can already see the earth over there. In fact, the corrugated iron there is because the pick-ups drive like crazy. So with the speed and the suspensions working, it makes its undulations. Look at this sunset. Oh, at least there’s that. Yeah, well, I can’t see any more than you, but there are always kangaroos. Come on, kangaroos, stay in the fields, don’t come onto the road. Thanks. There you go. 7:00 p.m. I had a little trouble finding a place to sleep because a lot of them are closed. So, I found a motel and they don’t serve food. So next door, there’s a small bowling alley. This town is really small, huh. I think it’s Corke. I’ll let you know what it is here. And well, I’m going to quickly take off my wetsuit and then I’m going to quickly go eat because it closes at 9 p.m. Hello! How are you? Good day today. – Was it good? Yes, a long day. Here I am, up there. Come on, it’s beer time. Bye guys. Okay, we’re going to leave with the broken frame. But I made sure, I secured my mudguard properly and I secured the axle with a ratchet strap. I left it at the bottom because it’s held with the exhaust pipe so it can’t go any lower and I tightened it against the frame. Okay, fingers crossed. There are 650 km left to the Ural importer. Okay, we’ll do it in two stages. Now, I’m going to do about 300 km. I’m staying on normal roads. 300 km to go to natural hot springs. Okay, let’s go. We’re leaving Bourke and not Bourg-en-Bresse (in France). SUMMARY: PRESUMED FAULTY FUEL PUMP, DETACHED EXHAUST, BROKEN FRAME Surprisingly this morning, it’s 14°C. Okay, maybe it’s due to the sheltering clouds. The system seems to be holding. But what scares me is that the strap is quite close to the exhaust. I hope it doesn’t melt and break. It seems to be holding. But it’s still quite hot there. You see the strap here, it’s close to the exhaust. But it’s okay. Apparently not hot enough to burn it. Yeah. Yeah, cool. And it’s nice too. Well, I shouldn’t get caught in the rain. This landscape is magnificent. Magnificent. Ah, it’s turned quite green and yellow too. It smells of rapeseed. I don’t know if these plants with yellow flowers are. In any case, it’s much smaller but it smells very strongly of rapeseed. Everything has turned green, it’s impressive. So, on that side, 10 km away is the border with the state of Queensland. But now, I’m going a little northeast and I’m going to go back down a little to find this famous village where there is natural hot water. Yeah, the vegetation has really changed and the animals are changing too. I’m starting to see more and more heron-type wading birds, birds of prey and cacti too. And lots of emus, it’s quite impressive. So, we arrive at Lightning Ridge. Apparently, this is the place where you find a lot of black opals. So they are quite rare and quite sought-after opals , especially those with harlequin colors. Magnificent. That’s where we’re going to bathe. Hot hot hot. Well, the super hot artesian baths. 42 degrees and it’s nice outside. You see, up until now I’ve been cold, now it must be 20 24 outside and the temperature is 42. So I’m filming discreetly because it’s forbidden. Everything is forbidden in Australia! We don’t have to film here. Come on, 7 a.m., we leave Lightning Lightning Ridge and head to Uralla. It’s 480 km away and we’re entitled to the sunrise. Oh damn, I’m getting dirt. Look. I hope it doesn’t last long. Oh shit! I forgot we overtake on the right. I’m lucky. It’s pretty smooth. It rolls well, there are no potholes. Fingers crossed. Oh well, now I’m getting rained on. I thought I’d avoid it. Bad option, dirt and rain. Well, it’s not getting the ground wet for now. I’m finally back on tarmac. But it’s raining. It’s never easy. So, I’m getting caught in the heavy rain now. Well, luckily I only get caught in it heavy when I get to the station and onto the tarmac. There, I was lucky in my misfortune. So, I have to get equipped. Well, I tightened the mess there. That was relaxed. So I tightened all that up. And now, we’re going to get equipped for the rain. We’re going to get equipped for the rain. And there are 400 km left. I thought I was going faster than the cloud, but even though I was at 60 or 70 km/h, it still caught up with me. There are no mountains to stop the clouds here. They move fast. Come on, let’s wait for the coffee to go from 80 degrees to 25 and then we drink it, get equipped and go. I’ve equipped myself like Big Ben Dom and well it’s still going but I’m sure that when I leave it’s going to be sunny. I don’t really think so. Look it’s all gray. It’s all gray. Yeah it’s nice to see rainbows. But it always means rain. Come on, let’s finish this boiling coffee and then we go. Yeah. I don’t know how they do it in Australia. I think they could go to jail if they served that in the States. They serve it at 60 degrees. Well, there are worse things in life. Well, I’m happy, I managed to catch the cloud front there with the blue sky and now I have no more rain after almost 100 km of water. Look at a potato field. Come on, let’s continue. I’ve been seeing this on the side of the road for a while. I thought, hey, that’s weird, they have cotton in Australia. But no, look, it’s all white. And actually, it’s the trucks that transport the shorn wool that lose it. I saw one there transporting huge bales of sheep’s wool. It was the little science and nature side. Come on, it’s straight ahead, it’s over there. Well, there you go, I think the rain’s over but I’m still going to keep the equipment, you never know. So, a little gas stop. So I’m happy because I did 227 km for 14.89 L, which is 6.5 L per 100 km while driving at 80-90 km/h. That’s okay. Well, compared to the first thousand kilometers I rode with this bike, I was getting up to 300, 350 km with 19 L while now, I’m getting to 280, so I’m losing 50 km in any case of autonomy. So yeah, we’ll see. We’ll clean the injectors, we’ll change the fuel pump, we’ll set the balance correctly. I hope that at Uralla, they have the computer to do that. And there you go, it’s going to be cool. It’s going to be cool. Well, we’re almost halfway there, there’s still a bit to go. And I’m happy because I just checked my oil and I’ve lost 0 in more than 5000 km. The level is still excellent. That’s good. Good engine, this boxer twin. And yeah, I just did 100,000 km with my 2022 model. So it says 90,000 but the odometer didn’t work for 10,000 km in Canada because the sensor was broken. So 100,000 with this one plus the 35,000 from the 2017 model. So I’m at 135,000 km during my world tour and in total with my 2 Urals, well, I’ve driven 150,000 km. Nice number. Nice number. Come on, it’s not over. There are still more than 200 km left and it’s over there. There are the famous black-headed sheep. So the kids? Yeah, they’re beautiful Baaaaaa… Yeah, it’s blowing. Come on, another 200 km. So there, I’ve completely changed the landscape. We see a little relief, a lot of forests, a lot of sheep. We see fewer kangaroos. There are still one or two crushed on the side of the road, but it’s rare. Look at that. And it’s funny because the trees, they look like they’re burnt. They’re all black but they have leaves. It’s weird. Come on, it’s over there. Okay, it’s all dark up ahead. I’m going to get some water. So I get my gear on. Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch. Come on, let’s go. It’s the first sign I see 120 km and we’re there. Wow! It’s not too soon. There you go, Ural. It’s here. Oh man, I hope someone’s there. SEE YOU NEXT FRIDAY

  7. Hi Robby.
I saw you were looking for the angle on the front suspension fork (leading link)
Not sure why you need it. But, as close as I can measure using digital angle finder, is 160 degrees.

  8. C’est vraiment très curieux cette succession de terre bitume terre… Bon,les images sont toujours aussi belles, suite au prochain épisode. 😃
